Hi,

I'm about to be a first time Audi owner after years of VWs. Two new A3 Black Editions are on their way to the local dealership and the dealership is letting me have the choice of either:
  • a Glacier White arriving in 2 weeks
  • a Daytona Gray arriving end-January
I might have chosen the Daytona as a no brainer in the standard S-line but with the Black Edition I'm not sure that the black features aren't 'lost' in the darker grey, and that it might look a bit dull without the chrome to lift it. I've also had 5 white cars in a row so had thought it might be nice to have a change! Have googled lots of images and vids to try to help me with my decisions but fluctuate between both colours on a daily basis. Aargh!

Glacier white example:

(Mine won't have a sunroof)
Any thoughts or advice that might help me decide? Thanks in advance!

I came from black to Daytona and really liking it. It really is a nice grey and pops in sunlight if cared for.

I had none black edition and recently wrapped some of my chrome to make it similar to a black edition.

I would agree it makes the whole car look darker, meaner. I guess a bit more sporty over classy. I think the chrome against the Daytona was a bit too much of a contrast as it’s so light, especially the window trim.

I’m not a fan of white so would definitely say Daytona of the 2.

I had a glacier white S3 black edition with panoramic roof in June that I ended up rejecting. It looked very nice but it seemed to attract a lot of attention (which I didn't like). The glacier white itself was a nice colour but with the black edition bits etc, i always thought it looked a bit boy racer which wasn't for me at 48. I would prefer the grey so that it was a bit less in your face. It's all personal preference

I came from a white Mercedes c class and would definitely have white again as I love detailing and it looked great but I wouldn't have my s3 in white with black edition

My last A3 was a BE in White, I really liked that combo and wouldn't hesitate to have it again.

White is my favourite "colour" and the easiest to keep clean. You only really notice it is dirty when you wash it an see the streaks.
After 5 white cars and a van I went for metallic grey. I love it and think it suits the A3 well. Just one reservation though, stone chips show more than on a white car, which I hadn't thought about.

Easy decision, Daytona is one of the best colours Audi produce, doesn't show the dirt like white does, and easy to clean and produce a sparkling finish. I would never own a white car...

Non Biased as I own a black a3, Personally they are my two favourite colours. Agree with an earlier comment that white with the black bits can look a bit boy racer but it does look very smart. If I was in your situation I’d choose the white only because you can have it in two weeks, they both beautiful colours & I couldn’t wait till the end of January when I knew there was a car arriving in two weeks.

Either look good, but I'm biased so it's Daytona for me. That said, what's the spec of both cars? That might sway your decision.

Exact same spec (only add-on is the tech pack which I'm excited about!)

I am trying to make the right decision rather than letting my impatience take over! (which might still happen)

You might of just answered your own question, it seems like you want the Daytona slightly more.

Lol. Today I am more Daytona because it's sophisticated and understated. Yesterday I was Glacier White because its young and vibrant. Perhaps my difficulty choosing is due to a split personality :sadlike:

Personal opinion but I think white is very common and a little boring and on the roads and doesn’t stand out, if that’s what you want that’s fair enough.

Daytona looks classy and has got a great fleck to it in the sunlight, but then again I’m bias as I used to have that colour :tearsofjoy:

Thanks for all the replies - it’s great to get everyone’s views!

As an aside, apparently grey was the most popular car colour last year for the first year ever. I don’t think this knowledge affects my decision but I thought others might find it interesting: https://www.whatcar.com/advice/buying/best-selling-car-colours-in-the-uk/n18819
White is losing its popularity. What are the millions of trend followers going to do with their PCP cars???

Another Daytona owner here, black edition saloon with pan roof, looks well.

Wow, alot of hate for the Glacier White in here. guess I will get my coat.......

White is nice, almost went for that myself when ordering mine, it was a toss up between Daytona, white and red.

The black edition and black pan roof suits white.

I’ve had two white cars before and take some cleaning, tar spots in particular.

When pristine clean though, it’s a very nice colour.

They’ll do what the majority of owners of other cars do, irrespective of colour.. send them back and get something different.

The bonus for glacier white is detailing, way easier. Dark grey, more prone to swirl, rock chips, and showing dirt. Glacier white is a nice white in the sun and at night. Personally, I am a blue boy and would never touch dark greys, dark blues and blacks. Saying that Daytona does look good when it is clean.

heres my pfl s3 in glacier white with the black styling personally i really like it i think the black styling really goes well with white however maybe im a bit biased as well either way both nice cars

I don't think there's a S3 RS3 colour that I wouldn't have. Think they're all ace. They're just nice looking cars full stop.

Out of Daytona Grey & White, I'd choose Daytona every time.

I like Daytona it looks great and I did think about getting it on this car, BUT I had a black S3 and I got rid of that far too early purley because I was forever cleaning it and it showed every single scratch, chip, swirl, spec of dust etc. I then went with white and have had no regrets, the white with black windows looks great. I got my first stone chip on the bonnett a couple of weeks back :( got the touch up paint and a toothpick out, dabbed it in, looked up, looked back down and I couldn't see where I'd done it...I thought then "You wouldn't get away with it that easily on most other colours"......so white for me as it's so easy to look after :)

Easy to spot tar too. Just an absolute ******* to see where you've been polishing! Got a white Q3 in my unit now and it's hurting my eyes.

So... the dealer got in touch to say the Glacier White car was arriving at 10am this morning - a week early! Probably a good thing as it's exhausting being so indecisive. I managed to leave work sharp to go take a look but it was dusk, and it still had its bonnet wrap on. Nonetheless, it looked really great . Took a colleague with me who was firmly in the Daytona camp, and he instantly changed his mind. Still not seen an A3 Daytona Black Edition in the flesh but I did see an S3 at the dealership and, at dusk in the rain, I was a little bit 'meh'. Heading to the dealership tomorrow daytime to try reach a final decision :fearscream:

My old BE.....

Thanks everyone for the various opinions and pics. Gave the go ahead for the white so I hope to be able to pick it up at the weekend.

I have my fingers crossed I don't encounter any issues with the 1.5 engine 'kangarooing' that I've read about. I'm also looking into what it costs to get the puddle lights added, and whether front sensors can be retrofitted. I'll try to remember to upload a pic when I get a chance : )

I have a 1.5 stronic with no kangarooing, also if you get a main dealer to retrofit the front sensors I heard they don’t come up on the screen, you just get the sound

Yep I agree I had front sensors put on mine by the dealers...They are sound only..Have always wondered how easy to get the park assist option to be retrofitted ie cost ??
