Deposit placed for an RS3!

Hi all,

I went to view a Sepang blue RS3 today, and ended up putting a deposit down! I was finding the RS6 a bit too large for the roads around here, and wasn't really using the power (stage 1 C7)

The test drive of the RS3 was fantastic, I preferred the 5 cylinder to the V8, much more addictive! I spent most of the drive shifting from 4th to 3rd to hear the over run.. its lovely and nimble as well in the corners. This one has had quite a bit of work done by the looks of it, but I was amazed how loud it could be one minute, and in comfort, completely docilel, very much looking forward to Thursday now! This is the spec-

MRC Stage 2 software upgrade. Additional/supporting modifications include: MRC Stage 2 S-Tronic map, Autotech High Pressure Fuel Pump, HG Motorsport Turbo Inlet, K&N Panel Filter, Milltek Decat Downpipe, Milltek Secondary Decats and Forge Front Mounted Intercooler.

What’s the factory spec? Looks a lovely motor
 
Really pleased :) from the site, its-

Sports Exhaust and Magnetic Ride), Comfort and Sound Package (Bang & Olufsen, Cruise Control, Auto Dimming Rear View Mirror etc), Gloss Black Rotor Alloy Wheels, Fine Nappa Leather SuperSports Seats

It seems to have the ambient lighting pack as well

That belonged to someone on audi rs3 oc forum. He'd posted that it was forsale at blakedown. Looks a lovely car
 
Ah yes, the chap at blakedown said it was a forum members car. Have tried to join there, but still waiting for the validation email.

That colour is pretty juicy!!

Really like the colour in the metal, it was between this and. Nardo grey one.

That's true, it does seem a very popular colour. There's one close to where I live, looks great.

Yeah they do. I test drove one before I got mine and if it wasn't for something suspicious on the hpi check I'd have probably bought it.

Got back from collecting the RS3 this evening (took some time at the dealership)

Had to pull straight to a Esso station and put 97 octane in it, as it was running on 0.miles range....

As it's been mapped by MRC they recommend 99 or v power fuel. Under hard acceleration the car is miss firing quite badly, could this be using the lower octane fuel? Or something else, the car seemed fine on the test drive.

Congratulations on the beauty!
It shouldn’t misfire because of 2 octanes.
Hopefully it didn’t bring a bit of gunk up from the empty tank.

Hopefully there weren’t many test drives.
I always picture cars in forecourts getting 5 quids worth of fuel at the last minute when they are being test driven.
 
That's true! This was certainly the first time when there's been nothing at all in the tank.
 
I’d try some octane booster on your next fill up to see if it helps.

Depends on the booster.
NF octane booster certainly can.

They all do it unfortunately.
Was the same with my Bitdi, dealer put like 10 quid in the tank while I waited to collect it.

That seems exactly what it's doing, normal driving there's no sign of a misfire, when it comes on boost it seems to hesitate, slowly running the tank down now.. It seems to be great on fuel if driven carefully, so may take a while!

It’s from Australia, but distributed by Roger Clark motorsport in UK.
1 bottle to 50 litres could raise it by 6 RON.
I used it for many years in a highly tuned Evo, and it would knock like mad without a half bottle in the tank.

Aye. that'll be it. Pinging/knocking is extremely damaging to head gaskets, pistons and valves so really do be careful and stay out of boost until you can fully replace that fuel mate. Audi's knock sensors and engine management are very good, but can only do so much. You'll be fine driving it about gently though, you're doing exactly the right thing. It really is impressive the milage these cars can get if you stay off the loud pedal!

Would love to see some videos of her when you get the fuel sorted! Did MRC Dyno it, any numbers to share?

Ah, that sounds it then! Will definitely make sure take it easy! At least I can still enjoy the sound in dynamic at lower revs, love been able to hear the turbo spooling up pulling away as well.

Will do :) Will post a video with the new tank or fuel!

Had a look through the service history, it seems to be running 455hp and 718nm, looking forward to giving it a good run!
 
Was owned by Huwgo R on the RS3 OC.

If it’s MRC mapped you should only be using 99 Momentum or Shell V power nitro 99.

Got a validation waiting for the RS3 oc :)

Ah, will.make sure now! We have a Tesco's near, so will use that, making sure that it doesn't come on boost until that.

There are a few boosters on the market that do actually add a couple of points of octane (but generally not the claims on the bottle label of 6 or more points). Not sure about the newer DNWA engine but I know the DAZA engines love higher octane fuel. I have seen good results from NF Race Formula (300ml) and also Boostane. Most of these octane boosting additives contain MMT (the NF Race certainly does) which coats the internals of your engine in a layer of orange residue - not something you should use on a long term basis.

DO NOT drive your car hard with only 97octane fuel in the tank. Its been mapped by MRC and should only use 99ron fuel or better. You can get away with an emergency top up and drive to the next petrol station to get the correct fuel but do not use high revs - you will damage the engine!

Will definitely make sure now,
It was just the one full acceleration pull on the way home, and didn't feel right. Taking it very easy until I can get a full tank of 99.
 
1st post on here guys after many months lurking, lots of great content. Usually on the rs3oc forum, have a catalunya red 16 plate with lots of factory extras.

Jimmy did you get your validation email yet? As T800 said Hwugo R owned your car previously, says he misses it dearly and is more than ready to help you out with any questions or advice on the car.

Hi mate, still no sign of the validation message, I've sent an email, and a Facebook message too. Would be great to have a chat to Hwugo about the car :)
 
Just another question too, a tanks finally run out, so have out a tank of 99 in, how long does it usually take the ECU to learn that it has the higher octane?
 
It may take a full tank or two depending on driving style but the ECUs can start adapting pretty quickly.
You could always do a battery off (ecu reset ) to speed things up, but 80 miles of driving should be enough.

The other site is ****** when it comes to registration and sign ups, if you have Facebook jump on there and drop them a message to sort it.

Incorrect info, it states in the handbook & the Petrol cap that the RS3 requires 99 RON all the time, regardless standard or mapped.

I personally only use V-Power, have never tried the 99 Momentum.

Have dropped them a message on the 9th, and got a reply saying they would look in to it, but still no sign..

It still seems to be doing it slightly, but there was 30 miles left of the 97, so maybe it's not quite enough.

Many thanks :) There was still 30 miles left of 97 left as well, so may have mixed, (didn't want to leave it now empty as the local Tesco's is not that close

This was the Tesco's Momentum that I've put in. Can the octane booster be put in now? Or before I fill the tank. Certainly a learning curve this!
