So I took the plunge and ordered myself one of these :-

Must admit a little bit of poo came out as I hacked thru the CAN Bus, but 6 wires later and and a slightly interesting programing method, it all worked and saved myself £250 on an install.

I wanted to check a couple of things and mailed them and they mailed me right back with the answers, so good support.

I'm a complete noob to this and it was fairly straight forward. Everything you need is just a google away.

So get yourself secured peeps.

Wow really good price and a real alternative to an Autowatch Ghost, I’ve not heard of them before but would definitely have considered one before I got the Ghost installed
 
I believe the ghost is a rebranded version of this.
I'm contemplating installing one myself.....was it fairly straightforward with decent instructions
 
I've heard different reports on whether this is a Ghost or not, maybe the previous version?
@AndrewW You've got the Ghost right? How does it do the immobilisation, I was kinda looking forward to the gearbox lock out (so could warm up car on drive), but the Ampire just seem to cut the fuel??? The service mode is just turn it off as well. Did I read the Ghost had valet mode that wouldn't let you take it above x mph?

@-Ju- So if you can remove trim and happy splicing a few wires, finding power & ground you're all good, I used the instructions as a guide, no point putting it where they tell you, they were also for a LHD car.

Get yourself a roll of Tesa loom tape as well to put it all back together with.

Yeah i've done plenty of hardcore retrofits so i'm not averse to a bit of wiring and trim removal lol

Cant decide between this one or the smart bluetooth version ?
 
The bluetooth just sounded like another vector to get hacked. Thou I'm defo going to have to get into the habit of entering the code before starting off.

Security and convenience, mutually exclusive :(
 
Thanks for the information. It would be great to see more details about the differences between this and the Ghost.

Yeah I completely understand that and it definitely is a consideration.
I have the keyless and I'll be honest I love the just getting in and driving off bit. I'm not sure the button pressing is for me!
I did however have a couple of cars with APR maps that had the anti-theft feature where you could set it through the cruise. You could turn it on and off when you wanted it. It's a shame nothing like that is available anymore!

Yes I have one fitted, and you're totally unable to start the engine until the code has been entered. You turn ignition on, enter your code, the indicators flash a couple of times on the dash to let you know it's been 'accepted', and then you start the engine. It takes a little bit of getting used to but I was used to it after a week or so and it's just part of starting the car now. As above convenience and security are usually mutually exclusive and IMO the stock system isn't up to the job with today's technology.

I've not had a chance to play with valet mode yet so not really sure the features of it but when the guy explained to to me briefly he just said it disables the system until you re-enable it.

Hie mate just been going through this thread. I really appreciate how you made this sound easy to install, i would really like to get hold of this myself but I'm clueless on how i can install it. Any chance you can my be email me step by step on how to install it or which wires to loom for and were to install this. Also how you got to set up the pin. Does it come with a straight forward installation guide

if you’ve ever done any kind of electric retrofit, you can do it with your eyes closed (sort of!).

Positive, negative, can high and can low is all you need to connect.

You can either follow normal install instructions or hide it somewhere else in the wiring loom. That’s the main benefit over ghost

Nice one ye currently doing the easy fits. Any idea easiest way to spot the cam wires, i know they twisted, but what colour are they or they differ car on car. Some say you can get them from obd.
 
Ok back in the room. As you can imagine everyones going to be a little para about the exact install here. I'd love to do a full write up but that would defeat the whole point of the thing, you could be the baddies :screamcat:

The instructions from ze germans give you the can bus colours which you'll need to find, that and power. None of it is difficult, but if you've never removed a panel or wired anything up it might be a bit daunting. I did a lot of googling.

The required can bus wires are not available from the OBD port and even if they were that wouldn't be a good place to hide it.

I got it all wired in. Yeah 4 CAN cables and 2 power. Job done. As mentioned before coding is a little fun but all working.
 
Anyone on this thread installed Ampire on a keyless car ?

If so there may be a security flaw in it that we’ve discovered on a keyless Golf 7.

They know about it now……..

Their reasoning for it? Laughable.

I mean if you have a product that’s supposed to stop a car being driven away, it should work on all variants, keyless or otherwise.
