Facelift RS3 8v stage 2 requirements

Hey guys. Sorry if i am posting this again. Searched the forum i cudnt find anything related to this. I have the 2016 RS3 8V n planning a stage 2 upgrade. I understand i have to do software, downpipe and intake. I have been in contacts with a few guys and some told me i have to even upgrade the turbo intercooler and dump valve. So i want to ask if the stock turbo and dump valve are not good enuf for stage 2. Cant i just do the software, downpipe and intake? Please share your experiences. Thanx in advance

I believe new inter cooler is a must

Think I read intercooler and downpipe. Not read anything about intake. I emailed a couple of places cos I was looking at costs of reaching 500bhp and no intake was mentioned then.

The tuner mentioned that he definitely need to upgrade to a cold air intake with a bigger air filter to improve the air intake. So as it stands even most guys recommend this including software update and downpipe. I dont mind doing this but my issue is with the turbo intercooler and dump valve needing to be upgraded too is it necessary?

I don't think this was the estimate for 500bhp. I'm sure 500bhp was an extra £1000 and involved a new turbo? I don't think stage 2 will get you 500bhp on a pre facelift model.
Trying to find the 500bhp invoice I'm pretty sure no intake was mentioned still.

The PFL car has a smaller turbo than the facelift model which limits power to a SAFE level of tune for Stage 2 on 99RON at around 450ps and up to 700nm (MRC and APR tunes, but REVO torque is much lower). In my opinion the addition of a downpipe on the PFL car is not an essential item as it does not really provide the expected benefits versus the cost of buying and installation, again it's the stock turbo which is the limiting factor as it's pretty much all done at 450/460ps. You can coax some extra from it by mapping the car to run on race fuel, but I have only seen cars running at around 475/480ps that have had air intake, downpipe, IC and a host of other mods to accommodate the race fuel tune.
The addition of an uprated IC is highly recommended as the PFL RS3 suffers from heat soak after some hard pulls (as does the brakes lol) and the ECU will pull power to protect the engine from rising temps (seen as much as 40 to 50ps drop on heat soaked cars on dyno runs). Intakes can be hit and miss (the fancy carbon ones work better with a turbo upgrade) but a larger air intake pipe like the Forge or HG Motorsport and a panel filter (BMC or K&N) can help the engine to release a few extra ponies and torque without breaking the bank for the carbon fibre look.

Those carbon intakes are an absolute rip off. £1000+.
Why are the torque numbers much lower with the Revo maps, do you know?

Me and some friends who also owned PFL cars (we have now moved onto the FL car) set out to test for ourselves various different mods and tunes on our cars (with no vested interest in marketing any of the products). We did V/box runs, dyno days and even raced the cars over 1/4 mile at Santa pod on numerous occasions. Collectively we have tried DTUK tuning boxes, MTM tuning boxes, stage 1 and 2 tunes from MRC and competed against other RS3's running APR, REVO and Litchfield maps. We have had dyno days for the same group of cars. The fastest and best and most consistent power producing cars were either by MRC or APR. Why? The ECU on the RS3 is a very sophisticated bit of kit, probably one of the most advanced ECU's that Audi had used. It limits boost to 1.55bar and not every tuner was successful in unlocking this key feature in the ECU. I suspect Revo falls into that category.

Mine has a revo map and when I took it to some place in Preston, they rang me to say they were having issues with the map. Goes with what you posted but very unprofessional either way.
I'm not that impressed with my map but they were local.

As new cars come along such as the facelift RS3, the tuners turn their attention and resource to producing maps for the latest models and development on the older car maps probably takes a back seat. MRC have been the leading Audi tuner for many years and I know they continue to refine maps for older cars. The PFL car being a case in point, take a look at the torque figures that their tuned pfl cars are producing now. My pfl car in 2016 was making a good 685nm but they are now seeing way over 700nm+ on the latest tunes. The APR maps started to come good (they sussed how to get round the ECU 1.55bar limit) towards the end of production for the pfl car and we started seeing some much more impressive dyno results and 1/4 mile times just before the FL car appeared.

PFL won't make over 450 unless the turbo is upgraded e.g. TTU500 etc.

Yeah you're right.
£3500 quite was stage 2. £4500 quote I can't find was for 500bhp. That included a turbo.

If / when I get back in to a PFL it is the route I'd choose e.g. buy one like it or mod one.

Thanx guys for such an informative thread. I now know where my options are. For now il go wit the uprated intercooler and the i take just to ensure things run cooler. The carbon fuber intake is a rip off for sure, waaaay too crazy expensive. The price of upgrading a turbo against buying a FL model looks lik an option. Ths cars are heavy on the pocket.
