Hi, just recently purchased a 2015 A3 saloon which has the MMI Nav Plus, all seems to work well apart from when I connect my iPhone X via Bluetooth. It will play the track that’s already playing on the phone and I can skip to the next track using the volume button but if I want to change album or play a particular track I have to do this fr0m my phone as there doesn’t seem to be my option to do this via the mmi. I have read a few things online and it sounds like this may be an issue with iPhone X and or iOS 13 (i’ve just updated to iOS 13.1.3). Has anyone else got the same issue and am I correct in thinking I should be able to change albums etc from the mmi? My wife has just got rid of a 2011 A1 and she was able to browse albums / change tracks no problems so I assumed this should be possible in the newer A3?

Thanks

Not using AMI cable (don’t have one), just using Bluetooth.

Cheers

Spent some time googling this issue and it seems like this could be an issue with iOS 13 and not just isolated to Audi’s. I’m going to see if I can try someone else’s iPhone with an older iOS version tomorrow to see if it works or not. Problem is since I’ve had the car this has never worked (phone was already on iOS 13) so I’m not sure if it should via Bluetooth or not?

I’ve had 4 Audi’s and this has never worked over Bluetooth. Only way to access folders and playlists is connecting by cable as djalix suggested.
Not an iOS 13 issue.

Thanks for the reply, I had a 2011 A4 and it didn’t work in that but I couldn’t play music via Bluetooth at all. But as I said my wife had a 2011 A1 and was able to access folders etc so I’m surprised it doesn’t work in the A3.

Will have to look at getting a cable then if that’s the only way to do it.

cheers.

I’ve had various specs of Audi’s with the RMC unit, mmi 3G, mmi 4g and the mib unit in my current s3 and none of them could access folders/playlists over Bluetooth with iPhones. Only way was ami cable(specific colour one or lightning ) or direct usb in the newer ones.
To access folders/playlist on iOS devices you need access to the file structure and I don’t think this was ever allowed over Bluetooth only by cable and Wi-fi. Might have changed in newer iOS’s.
Maybe android phones allows this.
As far as I can tell the unit in the A1 is a variation of the rmc unit so surprised it would work with that.
2011 a4(B6/7) as far as I can remember didn’t have Bluetooth streaming just Bluetooth for phone but there were aftermarket modules allowed for streaming.

Thanks for the info, after asking my wife about it again this morning she said could definitely stream via Bluetooth and could skip forward tracks but had to change albums from the phone itself so sorry about that confusion!

As for Wi-Fi there is an option to connect the phone via Wi-Fi but I can’t get this to work at all, I assumed this will only work in cars with Audi connect enabled (or have I got that wrong as well)?

Do you know which colour AMI cable is needed for lightening?

thanks again for the help!

there is a Wi-fi media player but I have never used it so not sure if this will give you the functionality you need.

as for the cable there is a specific ami to lightning cable or ami to usb. Not sure which colour you need for the a3.

I have a 2014 UK spec a3 that has the basic mmi. I can skip through tracks if I go into the media section and then press bottom left button to go into functions. You can then use the wheel to scroll through prev track/skip track etc. I could also set the star button on the steering wheel to skip track.

Yellow collar cable for direct Lightning connection.

Curiously, I got better functionality and control from my old iPhone 5S using a red collar AMI cable and genuine Apple 30-pin to Lightning adapter (the one with a pigtail, not the boxy one). That was on iOS 12 though.

Was that via Bluetooth or AMI cable?

That’s great I will have a look at getting a cable.

Bluetooth, I don't own a lightning AMI cable and unsurprisingly the usb one only charges your phone and you can't play music through it.

Hi! I have a similar issue since I updated my X to IOS 13...

Connected my iPhone via AMI cable (yellow one), I could not change the song with the audi buttons (volume button neither selecting another song in the playlist with the main MMI wheel). To change the song I have to go back to the playlist menu and select again the playlist I want to listen, but it only let me skip one time the song.
Moreover, if I go to a playlist with few songs (like 5-10) it works perfect.
So for the moment the trick I am using is skipping the song via apple Watch; I dont know if there is a problem with iOS 13 or MMI, and I dont want to restore the phone for nothing...

Thanks

To answer your original question; I have a A5 Sportback 2014 with MMI 3G Plus latest update. My iPhone is XR running 13.1.3. I can skip track or go back but I can not see other tracks in any playlist nor can I see album artwork.

If I connect via the AMI cable using the yellow collar it all works fine for around 30 seconds then disconnects and reconnects in cycle. So for now I am using bluetooth only and just putting up with it.

I have not had chance to try another iPhone on earlier software.

This sounds like it should work via Bluetooth then??

I’ve read quite a bit on apple forums that iOS 13.x.x is causing issues with various Bluetooth car systems so this may well be part of the issue!

I can skip and select tracks and also go into the folder structure of the playlists all via bluetooth? Maybe this is a newer bluetooth feature though, that I am not sure of.

I did however have issues when updated to IOS 13, but I deleted the phone from the MMI and repaired it and that solved it.

Now I’m curious what version of mmi do you have and what year? Also which iPhone?
I have never seen this work over Bluetooth on any my iPhones in any Audi. Maybe I need a Mmi update.

I have a FL RS3 and an iPhone 11 pro, but it did also work with with my iPhone 8 plus and my PFL S5.

I can take photos when I get back to the car later?

Essentially the MMI shows the song title that is playing and the rest of the play list due to play, I can skip songs or scroll down the list (only if they are on my phone) Also If I click the back button on the center console I can move the folder tree to other playlists (etc)

Yeah I only use bluetooth. I can skip tracks just fine. I use iphone 11 pro and I've not had any issues at all with bluetooth but I've only had the car for 3 weeks.

Here is the result of my bluetooth. If I click back from the track listing I get to this. I can then go through my whole library.
