Getting "Michelin 275/30 R21 (98)Y XL PILOT SPORT 4S" tyres from Costco. Anyone got experience of using these?

Also I am only changing both rear tyres since these have internal cuts on the side wall and an MOT fail.

This means I will have Dunlops in the front and Michelins in the back and hence a brand mismatch. Am I doomed?

If its an TDi Quattro you'll be fine. Not sure about other 4 wheel drive systems.
Loads of rubbish written about certain tyres usually by people who haven't tried them.
I've got Goodyear 3's on the front and the new version Landsails on the rear of my mapped 3.0 Quattro
I cant fault the Landsails wet or dry. Huge grip, the company is desperate to be up there with the big names, and it wont be long.
They are incredible at £83 each.
When the Goodyears are done I'll be putting Landsails on there too.
Bear in mind these are the new 'Performance Tyres' not the old versions which are pretty terrifying!

Hi Guy's First post to this forum.
Is this a common issue with the rear tyres on the A7 Quattro's. I've had to replace both rears last year because they had splits on the inside tyre wall. Could this be down to the low side wall. A7 3.0 TDI Quattro SLine Black edition running Dunlop Sport Maxx RT 275/30/21

Not heard of that problem before. Admittedly I’m on 35 ratio 20” tyres (about to wear out my second set at 50k) but they’re all fine.

Same problem with rear tyres cutting for me too! Just had MOT and advisory for both rears showing this. Not sure if it's a problem for Dunlop Sport Maxx or the A7 Quattro or both?
I'm running 275/30/21's on my B/E but now loathed to replace with Dunlop's. They ain't cheap and don't last from my investigations to date.
Don't know of any local dealers selling the Landsails either !

I don’t think Landsails do a 21” tyre

You're quite right Bishop187, I've checked and they don't!

Anyone got any recommendations for 21's that don't cost the earth yet are going to offer acceptable performance?

Gaz

I don’t think such a tyre exists. They all cost £240+

Yep again you're right, I can't find anything cheaper so I'll have to just cough up lol.

No guesses which tyres I had which split on the side walls on the rear tyres.

Yes Dunlops!

To answer the OP’s question, I’m running 275/30/21 PS4S on my RS7 and they are so far very good. They are wearing quicker than my previous Dunlop Sportmaxx GT’s, they lasted 22k miles without rotating them, don’t think the Michelin’s will last that long.

As for price, got my PS4S’s delivered for £1020 and another £50 for fit, balance disposal, Dunlop’s are cheaper, I think they only cost my £900 all in. Pays to shop around

I’d agree with P_G. I’ve been running Pilot Sport 4s for the last month or so and find them to be excellent. Noticeably better than the Goodyear Eagle F1’s that I replaced. I can’t really comment on wear rate just yet but unless less it’s way below average I can’t see me being unhappy with them. I paid £920 for 265/20/35’s fitted.

I ran two sets of Landsail LS588 on my A6 Quattro avant and as soon as the tyres are up on my a7 I will be getting them again unless I change my alloys. Incredible grip and wear over the course of three and a half years on them.

How many miles did you get out of them over that time? Also to anyone else running the Pilot Sport 4s on 20” wheels - keen to see what sort of mileage you’re getting out of them.

The first set lasted about 20k and that was with a swap from fronts to rear halfway through but they were absolutely square with wear and by that I mean they weren't rounded on the edges at all, the tyre snobs at work used to take the mick but they outperformed their tyres at a fraction of the cost.

I'm with you on this one.
Snobs Galore Pouring Money Away !

Quality or Expensive?
Saw a Lime Green Lamborghini smashed up on the M62 during the week in Leeds. It had Aquaplaned into the Central reservation.
It had Expensive Tyres on ?
Not so sure they were Quality Tyres ?
Maybe your branded tyres would have done better?
No problem with people buying what they want.
But I have a big problem with people Slagging off others who buy lesser known/cheaper brands. Some of which are very good Quality and not Ditchfinders.

Sorry mate, when did I slag off your choice of tyres? I think you'll find I didn't at all. ...also what's someone crashing a lambo got to do with me? If your dumb enough to crash a lambo into the central reservation I doubt any tyre would help you. Sounds like a more money than driving ability scenario. For some reason you seem to have an issue with the fact I choose to buy 'branded' tyres as you call them. If you look into it you'll probably find they're the best rated road tyre on the market.

Get a life. I never said YOU slagged anyone off.
This is an internet forum.
Nothing is personal. Its a piece of blank paper for bored people.
No one cares what anyone thinks.
Who do you think rates tyres?
Who pays the testers?
Its all marketing.
All brands have to gain respect.
I feel, using MY experience, that Landsails are doing the right thing.
I spent a long time researching before I bought them.
I thrash my car, these tyres take it.
I'm left with £400-£500 for fuel or fun. Out of your £800 +
Grow up.

Do you really, in all honesty, think I give a **** about you, what you think or if you stop breathing tonight ?
Get a life.
Go buy some tyres for some one who wants to listen to your bleating. Someone who cares, I really dont.

I Iike the way you edited that last post. Shame I got to it first so everyone can see what an angry **** you are. Again, for the record, I never said a word against your choice of tyre. I just chose something different to you and shared my opinion on it. Get some anger management counselling with your £400, seems like you need it.

For the record.
I wont be contributing any more to this thread.
Some great, informative intercourse with some sensible, good people.
Unfortunately spoiled by a too rich Tyre Chimp.

Absolutely.
Done

You said I was a snob for buying decent tyres which when I drive a decent car is ridiculous. One minute you're saying you don't care if I stop breathing, then calling me rich tyre chimp for choosing to buy quality tyres for my quality car, then all of a sudden you back off like a school boy who's been given detention when a moderator steps in.

Last commemt from me but you really should consider your mental health issues.

Guys reign it in please, absolutely no need.
Seriously, did you read the made then deleted which I quoted? Totally unacceptable.
