Anyone else found that whilst listening to a song within an album and then trying to skip to another song in the same album using the steering wheel controls or little knob near the gear lever simply doesn't work after the IOS 13 update?

Let me be clear, I'm not using apple car play and the phone is linked to the car via USB (as it previously was before update).

I'm using the Audi MMI media playback facility.

Works fine for me. However, there was a recent thread where the OP had a similar problem as you. I think the later IOS 13 update fixed it.

I was hoping you wouldn't of said that regarding this update as i have already done that update and issue is still there.

So you are on 13.1.2? Have you tried it with Bluetooth instead of cable? I’m using Apple Music via Bluetooth, not car play.

OP said he isn't using CarPlay, just using bluetooth and the phone is plugged in. Seesm to me iOS 13 is breaking a lot of things :(

What's your point? he's using the same method as me and it isn't working for him....

My point was you stated have you just tried Bluetooth and that's what OP is doing, he clearly stated he wasn't using apple CarPlay, that's all

OP doesn't state he is using Bluetooth. He state she is using the phone linked to the car via the cable and MMI media playback. It seems he is using the phone plugged in but not via Car Play. This is possible and when you plug the phone in it doesn't mean you have to use Car Play. You can still use it as a device whilst charging. I use my phone plugged in sometimes and use Apple Music but not via Bluetooth or Car Play. Mine works via this method and via Bluetooth hence my question to the OP to try it via Bluetooth.

I linked the car up again via the cable and enabled apple car play and although i don't like car play the steering wheel controls are now working.

I will stick with this until an apple update is released (hopefully) so i can just use the MMI and not car play, car play to me is too fiddly.

Just to clarify, i wasn't using Bluetooth as the MMI does not like you having the phone plugged in via USB and then stream via Bluetooth and as such would result in the battery being drained of power.

Thanks for the replies.

what year is your car?
I’m running iOS 13.1.2 on a XS max and can use the mmi with steering controls and works with carplay. I can change albums, tracks, playlist on the mmi as well.
Not had any problems with iOS 13. Maybe the mmi needs updated.

It’s a 2018 A3 BE Saloon.

The phone is a bit of a dinosaur being an iPhone 7 however the MMI functions worked perfect before the update.

mines a 2018 as well.
have you got tech pack or just the standard mmi?
I don’t have any iPhones that old to try. Got rid of my 6s for Xs max last year. My dad has my old 6s. If I see him I will give it a try.
Mine has been behaving quite well luckily.

Out of interest, why do you not like car play? The audio is much better than over bluetooth

I normally use spotify, but no album artwork shows in the display! :( Does Apple music show artwork at all?

After iOS 13 you get artwork on CarPlay for Spotify and Apple Music

Oh right cheers, not used it for months due to the horrid display it gave :) Off to try it now ;)

Don’t think carplay is that well implemented in the Audi’s.
In the Land Rover with the dual display you got album art on the second screen and on the VC and this was before iOS 13.
Audi appears to have a no frills versions or was left as an afterthought during development. Prefer the mmi over carplay personally but traffic data can be sketchy on the Audi nav compared to google maps or waze.

I don't play music over Bluetooth, it's always plugged in via the USB.

A couple of reasons really, before this update you couldn't use the MMI sound settings (sub control, base, treble etc), it was done purely by car play and the sound quality was crap and two, i find it too fiddly trying to navigate around.

The new car play (for me) is slightly better in that you can now use the MMI sound settings to customize the sound but again i still find it fiddly.

You can't also use the MMI facilty to use the telephone system, it's done by car play when that's being used, which again i find fiddly.

I'm not particularly crap with technology, far from it, i just think the Audi MMI setup is much better.

Completely agree.

It does a job but it could be much better.

Just tried my iPhone SE, which is running IOS 13.1.2, and I can change tracks using Car Play from my Apple Music library when connected by both USB cable and Bluetooth, using both the steering wheel controls and the MMI volume control.

My Audi is a MKII Q5 with the tech pack.

Mines still bolloxed, so persevering with apple car-play.

Hi! I have a similar issue since I updated my X to IOS 13... My car is a S3 2013 with MMI plus (not AppleCarPlay)

Connected my iPhone via AMI cable (yellow one), I could not change the song with the audi buttons (volume button neither selecting another song in the playlist with the main MMI wheel). To change the song I have to go back to the playlist menu and select again the playlist I want to listen, but it only let me skip one time the song.
Moreover, if I go to a playlist with few songs (like 5-10) it works perfect.
So for the moment the trick I am using is skipping the song via apple Watch; I dont know if there is a problem with iOS 13 or MMI, and I dont want to restore the phone for nothing...

Thanks

Same issue i still have so I'm using apple car-play at the moment, i have installed every IOS 13 update as and when they are released but it still doesn't work correctly.

Are you guys using a genuine apple cable or mfi approved cable?
Non approved cables limits functionality.

Genuine cables, i never use anything else.

Maybe mmi needs updated.
Not trying to rub it in but mine is working as it should. will try and post the firmware version of my mmi when I in the car next.

I went into the settings of the MMI the other day to try to update it, it said something about needing an email and a password to do it, i left it as i wasn't sure what the score was with it.

that’s just for the map updates. System updates as far as I know needs to be dealer/specialists.
