Hi all,

I’m in the market for an S3 8V.

What options are well worth having?

Saloon or sportback?

Things like Virtual cockpit and SS seats are a must and I think most would agree.

B&O for me as well, but some are happy with the Audi sound system.

Panaromic sunroof is a 50/50 but does light up the cabin.

Techpack provides a bigger central screen. I think the other things are a case by case basis.

Although you've provided no detail on things like how many miles you'll be doing, whether you live in the middle of nowhere (so matrix lights might be a consideration) etc

First and foremost, go Black Edition to get a good base of standard kit. Super sport seats & Tech pack is also highly desirable. Plenty of other comments will appear soon!

Thanks all so far for the suggestions

-will need to be older than April 2017 (don’t want to pay the additional tax)
-I do approx 4K miles a year (hence getting rid of the 335d xdrive)
-hatchback Sportback is my preference
-previously have owned an 8P so somewhat familiar with the a3

how do the super sports seats look? Are they buxket type ones?

Many thanks

Agree with @Adam14 B and O is worth it over standard sound system. The wife's Q3 has it but my S3 doesn't.:thumbs up:

I'd actually say one of the most important options is the panoramic sunroof as they tend to matter on the used car market. Virtual cockpit seems to be something most who dont have it try to retrofit. So I'd definitely say those would be top of my list. I wouldn't say supersport seats are a must as they're just cleverley marketed old generation A5 seats.

Everyone here is going to give you different opinions. I think your far better going to see a dealer and deciding what matters to you by looking at cars that have it, if stock allows.

Matrix headlights, I've just swapped to an older car without them and it's the thing I miss the most. I had Bose and Virtual cockpit in the older car, I can take or leave those but those headlights are worth an upgrade IMO.

To me would be Panoramic Roof. Virtual Cockpit is a good toy but somewhat I miss the traditional dials. Black edition looks more brutal (black front grill and black mirrors and no silver inlays around the windows) . Sports seats once again look better and have more grip to the bottom rather than standard slippery ones. B&O is another desirable option but unless you blaze the music to the max you might get away with a standard audi system

@pburv ....let the fun and games begin....missed your uplifting comments :whistle2:

To the OP: pano roof and B&O

Deffo tech pack as an absolute minimum. And the B and O. And the extended leather (looks kinda budget without the leather handles and fancy grills) I don’t have the SS seats and I do love how they look but have heard they aren't as comfy - not sure how accurate that statement is ....

Black edition first

for me it was tech pack (for VC) and sunroof and now my wife has the TT it would be sound and comfort pack as the standrad audi is rubbish

nice to have, would be leather biut I am not an S3 owner - i spec'd leather as my wife insisted but expensive option

I also like advanced key but now dropped on My20

I had the Audi Sound System retrofitted from @DJAlix (had the basic system to begin with) and the sound is much improved and is absolutely great. My friend has a FL Black Edition with B&O and doesn't seem that much better tbh, though she mostly listens to YouTube so obviously the source isn't great quality anyway...
A lot of people also complain about not having auto folding mirrors (not standard) so bear that in mind.

You will find different things are important to different people.

For me must haves were VC/Tech (as it makes it feel much more modern) and B&O (as music is very important to me and had it on my A3)

Nice to haves were Pano and SS.

I’m one for new tech and went LED on my old A3 as an option over xenon. The matrix would be lovely but I think a lot of money when the standard LEDs are so good.

In an ideal world I would have got all of them but you will find it hard to find one with all of that and if you do you’ll be paying a premium, especially for pano.

As others have said Black Edition gives a good level of spec but good luck finding one without the horrible BE Tdi looking wheels.

folding mirrors is a good one but for 275 factory option it was a **** take

unless you park on main roads/streets espeically in london not a priority in my opinion

Everyone has a different opinion, but for me an S3 should have ......... Super Sports seats, B&O, and extended mono pur.

Hild hold assist is a must for me, as it makes life so much easier. Another desirable option is comfort pack.

You'll have a well specced S3 then ...... just like mine.

Not a priority for me either, I actually have them but I turned off auto folding on lock and rarely use it (only if parking in a tight car park space or sticking out on road). Each to their own!

Just love the look of my SS seats and wouldn’t be without them but not the comfiest! Love the VC and prefer not go back to the conventional dash. Red callipers I’ve got are a bit cheesy imo. B&O sound is awesome, speaking as a jazz, rock, metal fan! Not bothered about the absence of pano roof but would take it if on offer!! Disabled the auto-fold mirrors in case they freeze and burn motor out!

Your buying a used car as l said go for a car with as much options on as you can get your looking for a 2016 plated car so there should be a few cars coming on to the used car markets soon....as most who pcp such cars dont tend to keep them any longer than 3 years sites like Audi approved, Autotrader, Pistonheads will have what you want, you wont find a 2016 car in a Exclusive paint colour though as Audi stopped production of this for a good while, 2016 was the year facelift was introduced which is the model you want

That's the exact same reason why I don't use mine much!

- If you’re going second hand, 2017 model year is the sweet spot to get a facelift model at a sensible price, and before the introduction of the petrol particulate filter (and the subsequent slight power loss).
- Supersport seats
- Virtual cockpit - those without will start to feel a bit dated soon enough
- Panoramic roof - makes a massive difference to the interior light and airiness
- ROOF RAILS :thumbs up: This makes the S3 a pretty unique proposition in its class - with a roof box on I have the same load lugging capacity as an A6 Avant, but only when I need it and I don’t have to drive a massive barge when I don’t.
- 19” wheels and mag-ride. I’ve driven an S3 on 18’s with no mag-ride - 19’s on mag is a better ride, despite the bigger rims
- Red calipers. These were a £300 option from new, so again if you’re buying used, let someone else take the hit on that
- Black Edition - although depends on the colour you’re going for - the silver pack can look great on some colours

Hope this helps...
