Facelift RS3 2019 drag race

It's a testament to the golf how well it responds to a tune but it's the old argument of standard vs tuned.

Throw the same amount of money at tuning an rs3 and it will be a different story again.

Having just traded my mk7 golf R estate in for a facelift RS3 sportback I know what car I would rather have

What on planet earth is going on with these GPF cars...12.7 seconds quarter mile? Carwow tested a FL car pre GPF at 12.2s...PFL were faster.

Such a sh*te launch now too, what are Audi up to. Sounded pants too when rev'd.

Sadly the way Audi and most others are going I’m afraid.

As I pointed out elsewhere the revised engine to meet WLTP regs has different pistons and cams with a different compression ratio.

Couple the above with the 2 in line GPF and it’s stunting performance/sound.

Rs3 should surely outrun a stage one golf. Think I will keep my PFL. Has the standard golf changed exhaust as well?

Yeah the wltp golfs have a gpf filter in the exhaust and back to only 1 rail of fuel injectors, so back down to 300bhp in stock form after being upped to 310 with the mk7.5 facelift

I agree these OPF filters have definitely effected the performance of the RS3.

Audi must be aware of that; so it seems likely that they will fix that with the facelift/next gen RS3.

We are all doomed

Do you have any info on the pistons and cams? What is the new compression ratio, as generally with a high comp ratio you need higher octane fuel before it really comes alive to tuning

Same old tunes vs untuned argument.

Golf is 130kg lighter aswell so that will make a difference.

He did the same with a pimped up seat estate against a big standard rs3. Absolutely pointless drag races IMO.
I think these testers are relishing the fact that the rs3 that was once the king for many years is starting to be shown up by lesser expensive models.

They can do what they want with the R but it will never sound as intoxicating as the 5cyl engine,

The Golf R is a great performance hatch and with a tune very rapid...but I know which car I’d rather be seen in...RS3 all the way!!

Had one of the super cheap lease deals on the Golf R back in 2014. Awesome car, brilliant all rounder and nippy. But sounded atrocious. I bought a PFL RS3 at end of the lease and while it didn’t handle quite a sweetly as the Golf, it was just so much more of an event and a more special car to own.

Pretty much the same for me other than mine was a 2016 R ;)

Bought a PFL RS3 to replace it, the Golf was an amazing car that did it all apart from having much character.

Overall I’d argue it was a better car (and also argue the RS isn’t worth over 50% more to buy, or at least show the value for all that extra), but there is a special feeling when getting in and starting up the RS that the Golf will never have.
