A3 Wheel bearing and Shock gone - under warranty?

Hi all,

My 64 plate A3 in at Audi for MOT today. Just had a couple of advisories saying that N/S/R shock absorber is weeping and advise replacing at £263.95 INC VAT.

Also, N/S/F wheel bearing has slight rumble. Cost to replace £318.70 INC VAT

Should either of these be replaced under warranty (I have a 5 year warranty which runs out in 2 weeks). ??

I had both rear shock go at 55k on my 15 plate. I tried via warranty but counted as wear and tear.

If you’ve got significantly lower mileage may be worth a try though.

Your quote is quite high, I paid around £160 inc VAT for the pair to be replaced with OEM.

Hmm, the old "wear & tear" clause..
I've also got the MOT failure protection from last year - I thought I'd have all my bases covered ??

Two very common issues on the 8v.Unlikely they will replace the shocks under extended warranty as they will hide behind the old wear and tear clause. From experience they only really cover these under the normal 3 year warranty period. I bought a pair of Sachs from Euro and fitted them myself for a total cost of £107. If you’re not a DIY person expect to an hours labour at an Indy, though the job takes 20-30 minutes max.

The wheel bearing is expensive to buy but I would expect that to be covered under warranty.

Agreed - could be on dodgy ground with the shock as it's leaking. However, I expect the wheel bearing to be replaced.

Ok, they've called me back.

The shock absorber can't be replaced under warranty as it hasn't actually failed - it's just leaking. However, the wheel bearing is defective and so they've agreed to replace that under warranty.

So if you leave the shock to fail will they then replace it? Funny old Audi.

LOL. I doubt it somehow as my warranty runs out in 2 weeks time.

Shouldn't they replace shocks in pairs rather than just do one?

Generally it’s advised to replace in pairs to keep the car more balanced but if you haven’t even got misting on the other then you would probably be ok doing just the one.

Both of mine were misting at MOT but was thinking of getting rid so held out but then one failed so did both. Then sold it a few weeks later to Arnold Clark who didn’t even test drive it so should have just put up with the knocking

I had my A4’s wheel bearing replaced under warranty and i bought it approved used audi.

it's booked in for the wheel bearing replacement (under warranty) next week. Getting a quote from my indi though for the shock(s) as Audi want £263.95 INC VAT.
