Hope it all goes smoothly!! Let me know how you feel about the remap, are you getting a egr delete aswell? Again seriously tempted to take it up to 170 mark but just a bit unsure of if stock components will take the added strain happily or not :/

170bhp can create clutch slip on an old clutch

Feel like I should replace the clutch soon anyway, perhaps a slightly uprated clutch to handle the increase? My main concern is the Injectors though, really worried they'll pop as believe there was a recall for the original 170 model?

A brand new standard clutch will be fine and the injectors are good for 200bhp

Cheers hogg mate! Put a few worries to rest in my head :) will have to look into it a bit more seriously with insurance etc...

Recall was quite awhile ago (2008 I think). I’m running astage 1 map and my clutch went about 5months ago...obviously nothing to do with my driving lol but in seriousness I don’t hoon often and I don’t do it from 1st gear so was a bit surprised when I started slipping.

Guess on the lower horsepower the clutch has just been used to a less immediate take off? Just an easier life for it? Yer no need to hoon off in first very tempted to get the stage 1, is there a huge difference in how it feels and performance?

I was advised not to expect a ferrarri from a 12 year old car...BUT the difference (for me at least) was night and day. She drives beautifully (most of the time) and has bags of power for a daily driver. I was told it'd be more economical because she needed less diesel for the same amount of power but that gets lost somewhere between my brain and my right foot. I don't think any of the issues I've had are related to the stage 1 map. Whatever car I get next will be mapped almost immediately. three thumbs up!

I'll definately have to look into it if it's that's big a difference! Would love to have that extra go when I need it! :smirk:

Ladies and gentlemen, I wish you a good day wherever you are and I am happy to be a new owner! Currently it's still stock everything but a set of wheels is now in the back and a lift kit (yes, I am going up!) is on order!!

Calasp, car look(ed) great. What mileage and engine have you got for the oil pump to fail?

2.0tdi 170 (235) BRD

oil pump delete kit
New hybrid Turbo
Rear Crank oil seal
New clutch and flywheel (single mass conversion)
New cam belt kit

Nice list! Lot of work. What mileage did your oil pump fail?

Around 127000 with no warning at all
So when it’s all back together it’s getting a oil pressure gauge fitted aswell to keep a check of it

Oil pump went, that starved the turbo, and when removing the sump I cracked my oil crank seal gear box side so engine had to come out then we realised that it was still running the standard from factory clutch and duel mass flywheel so I’ve converted it to a lightened single mass, plus while the belts of may aswell put a full new cambelt kit on

Just need to refurb the callipers and put new discs pads and 2 tyres on should be good for another few years hopefully

This is my 55 plate b7 avant s line 1.9tdi (BKE) which was given to me for free by a mate, he loved her but got a company car so passed her on. she’s done 170k but lived for ten years in Spain - so my main job is to save up for is timing belt. Since I’ve had her I’ve replaced the wiper motor and wiper, done oil, oil filter and fuel filter air and pollen - de coked the egr. Then flew through her mot in may. Resprayed some scratches out front bumper and dents out bonnet. Iternally i also fixed the remotes and repaired with the car and put new catches so my arm rest clicks shut. Replaced the light switch pull out dial for a new one. The alloys were peeling so I’ve sanded and gave a rudimentary spray job, as all money getting saved for timing belt water pump to get done by a garage. Half tempted to do myself given the price but think I’m out my depth and failure would be catastrophic I imagine.

Nothing to be ashamed of chap, looks nice to me and a lot to be said for an un- modified avant sometimes, also a good solid base to work from.

enjoy.

As the timing belt is the Achilles heel of all these cars it's best to get a reputable professional to do it. Had mine done at DH Automotive in Falkirk and have decided not to worry about it for another 50-60k :)

Yup it’s a job too far for me it’s the big bill for timing belt and the saving up for it, which what has delayed any further big jobs at the moment. I have a reputable garage who services vag taxis quote me £380 - although he is not as well known as dh automotive may I ask what you payed for yours? @jarnold231

A little bit more than that apr. £300 + parts so probably close to £400-450, but having had two cambelt failures on 2.0TDi cars, I was in no mood for any issues with the 1.9TDi. The belt had allegedly been done <10k miles before, but there weren't any receipts, and you cant put a price on peace of mind :)

This is very true I remember reading about what happened with both cars

Technically four miles west of the middle of nowhere. There's literally a stone marking the centre of Scotland there :)

The family bus, pretty much box standard at the moment apart from the wheel colour. Love this car.
