Handing car back - what a faff!

That's a good point, picking up on what you said about "no warning lights", does that include the 30 days to oil change light?

The inspection reminder popped up yesterday and the oil one will probably pop up next week, I'm booked in for both to be done on the the 29th October, the inspection will be reset to 24 months so that's not a worry. However, the oil is going to pop up again on the 29th September next year saying it due in 30 days, chances are that will be on when they collect between 19 Sept-19th Oct....unless I reset it the end of Nov so that it doesn't come on until end Oct!!!

that’s why I VT’d my car instead of handing back. Done the VT a month before the end as I didn’t want that argument of car needing serviced and needs MOT, tyres, wipers etc.
Worked out quite well for me as my vt was on 23rd of month and direct debit payment was due on 27th so didn’t have to pay August month or September which made the deposit for the new car.

Another update...
Today I received a joke of a confirmation letter from Audi.
Threats of £250 charge if I didn't have the v5.

Even more laughable was the £400 + VAT charge if you don't have the service booklet. I called them up to remind them that Audi did not provide a service booklet!

I also received a text from British Car Auctions asking me to book a slot for the car to be collected. Great, I thought. First appt is 3 weeks and a slot appears to be the whole day. I'm a teacher and unable to get time off to sit about waiting for them to (not) turn up, so I'll give them a call in the morning.

Audi are rubbish, so glad to be moving on.
It's probably just a standard letter they send out to everyone. Perhaps you are perceiving the 'hreats' to highly..

Get it changed to long life at next service then it is ~18k miles between oil change if you drive sensibly.

My car is due second oil & inspection in 1200 miles and it has covered 35k miles. I will not be paying for it when it goes back on Tuesday.

How many days until it's due though? Normally a warning pops up at 30 days.

Over 100 days.

Success!

Car collected today and no bill to pay, except that Audi may come back and ask for about £200 for mileage.

He told me a story of an A3 he collected recently that would be billed for £2700 as all the alloys were wrecked and there were dents and scrapes on numerous places.

So, that's the end of my journey with Audi. It has been a good dependable car with no faults at all. In 36k miles all it cost me is £140 for a service (price matched) at 19k miles. About £140 for two tyres and £40 to get one alloy refurbed.

The 1.0tfsi averaged 52mpg over this time and could easily get over 60mpg on a run.

If you are over your agreed mileage Audi will come looking for it, took about 3 weeks after the car was collected for them to send me the bill. Just a case of phoning Audi finance and paying over the phone.

Two weeks since I handed the A3 back and the date of my monthly payment today. They have taken £10 from my account today for an admin fee which I was aware of.

They've not yet been in touch regarding the £200 or so for mileage, fingers crossed they have forgotten about it.

Still no ST as it has been delayed in shipping!

KenL, is it a Fiesta or Focus ST? I'd be interested in your thoughts when you get it.
Steve.

Fiesta ST. Focus looks good but it is very expensive.

Fiesta ST. Focus looks good but it is very expensive.

This version of the focus is probably the least attractive of any ST previously and dare l say it....the poorest build quality as well and the most expensive.....wont see many around until Ford start discounts
The Focus ST used to the main rival to the Golf and VXR astra things have somewhat changed now....in that the focus ain't a rival to a golf anymore it's the koreans that are the Focus rivals .....

Having had one previously and now my sister has the new one...they're are a few difference even down to how the doors sound when you close them, very little difference between a focus and Fiesta inside now and that shouldn't be the case considering the price of a Focus ST
MY Focus ST3 had lovely Windsor leather on the front seats on par with Audis leather that's been replaced with Faux leather and Alcantara just a example

Picked my sister up from Ford's the other week, she was having her Fiesta serviced. I got talking to the sales guy in there about the new ST Focus, even he said "It's over priced" :D When you think £30k a few years back would get you a decent S3 3 door.

In 2015 a S3 sportback basic spec was just £34k and the saloon was just under £36k if my memory serves me right

You could aim that at other manufacturers too. Audi being the main culprit. Cheapening down, but increasing prices.

My sister has a MKII focus, and that is cheap and nasty inside. The MK3 was just plain ugly, and even the RS looked awful. Lipstick on a pig.

I like the Mk4 Focus, and think the new ST looks good, but very underwhelming from the outside, and very under the radar. They should have made it look more sporty. Blink and you'll miss it. I think the RS will be one hell of a car though.

As for the focus being the main rival to the Golf and Astra? I never see any Astra VXR's around. Very few anyway. No one really buys a sporty VauxPoo these days. So I think the Focus is still a main rival. But there were certainly less MK3 ST's around compared to loads of MK2's you saw everywhere. I think due to price increases, and other manufacturers offering stupidly low PCP deals, this will have lowered sales of the Focus. Which would you rather have? A 247 bhp FWD Focus ST for £350 as month, or a 300bhp Golf R for only £300 a month? No brainer. That's why Golf R's are everywhere. And it's not just VW either.

Plus, the younger generation don't want to be seen in a Ford, or a Vauxpoo. They want to be seen in Audi, VW, Mercs etc. They look better when uploading photo's on Insta, and having to have something better than their peers. There is a young lass round the corner from me. Passed her test, and (I assume) given a Ford Ka off her parents. Perfect car for a young 17 year old lass. Less than 2 years later, she turned up in a Merc C-Class. 18-19 year old lass in a bl**dy C-Class. When I was 18 I had a clapped out Mk1 Fiesta 1.3 Chia. At that age any idea's of owning an Audi, BMW, or a Merc was pipe dreams. You worked your way up the ladder over years to even think about affording one. Now? PCP brings that type of car to the 18 year olds.

For me, that is what's killing the sporty Focus and Astra.

No VXR's as they no longer build them, the best you can get is the SRi which looks like any other Astra/Corsa.

Fully agree on the social media to blame...and not just for cars! We were talking last night after seeing a thing pop up on TV about taking time out to talk, kids don't talk because they are too busy with their heads in the phone on social media trying to get one up on their mates. I feel sorry for young girls who aren't as good looking or as popular as other girls they are hanging around with, the pressure on them to look like 'reality stars' and to always be posing/posting stuff up must be horrific.
I was sitting at the lights the other day and there was a young guy in the barbers getting his beard trimmed, he had his phone held up taking a selfie!!! I said I bet that's for social media, a lot of young people these days can't take a dump without doing a selfie and posting about it...their worlds are 6 inch x 3 inch....it's sad.

For me at 17 a Mini, 18 a 5 years old Astra and I thought that I was doing well with that :p, 20 Opel Manta GTE coupe...loads after that, but my first brand new car was at 27 :)

I know they don't manufacture the VXR GTC anymore but only a few years back the 3 hottest hatches available where the Ford,VXR,GTI
I dont do social media but if followers of it want to get themselves up to the eyeballs in debt that's their own business and l wont stand upon my Soapbox and preach otherwise
I actually thought the VXR gtc was one of Vauxhall's better attempts at a hot hatch good looking car if somewhat heavier than its counterparts

I would and did have a 247 Bhp Ford Focus ST3 Mk3 overall a nice car and the only car to date that was in equity when l sold it on by £2700 may l add.
The M2 Focus RS Which you think is ugly is a modern day classic with higher residuals than any Audi,VW to date

But you're not of the generation I'm referring to. I'm referring to young 18-30 year olds who put badge and image above everything else, because social media means they have to be seen to be relevant. And showing yourself in a Focus ST is not what these people want to see. Being seen in a Merc is far better.

The Focus RS I was referring, was the MK3. Not the MK2. And yes, the MK2 is (I don't know why) becoming rather expensive. Here is a £65,000 RS500 for sale.

http://www.appreciating-classics.com/car/focus-rs500-2k-miles/

I personally don't see the hype with the MK2 RS. Quick, yes, but should have had AWD. And sticking a RS500 badge on it is sacrilege to the Sierra RS500, which was a homologation special. It's no Cosworth. For £65,000 I'd be buying a Escort Cosworth

WOW :scared2:
IMO no way is it a classic or worth 65k. Buy the more iconic Escort Cosworth and have change.

I wish. They tried to tempt me into another s3 or even rs3 but didn,t come close on what I was willing to pay a month. Plus a rather offensive part ex price on my car.
It,s only got 22k miles so will do me a while longer I reckon.

Never got as far on the monthlies with the Rs but wanted over £400 with equity on my car(£1800) as deposit on the s3 saloon. That's before any options came into play. needless to say the conversation with the sales guy only lasted about 30 minutes lol. From the start with my current car i was happy with a monthly rental of £273 and I couldn't quite get myself to pay the extra £200 plus a month extra for pretty much the same car. So maybe to get an extra kick out of my current car I might go down the modded route like our mate @Rob2k68 did with his . Don't get me wrong 300bhp aint bad but you know...............lol
