Unfortunately, the time has come to be an adult and buy a house which means my S3's time has come to move on.

How have people fared when selling theirs on Auto Trader and the likes? Does anyone have any recommendations for where to list it?

2018 Ara Blue S-tronic. Virtual Cockpit, SS Seats, Front/Rear Park sensors, Rear View Camera, Hill Hold, Folding Mirrors. Looking on Auto trader the prices seem to be doing pretty well, but whilst that is great, I don't want to be waiting months and months for it to move on.

Any experiences that can be shared with me would be greatly appreciated

Matt

I would try the webuyanycar type websites and specialist first to avoid the tyre kickers.
One of my old car I used Evans Halshaw buy your car and their price for my a6 was almost £2k better than we buy any car and £1k better than trading it in to Audi.

Thanks, i'll give them a go now, tyre kickers are exactly what I want to avoid.

They offered £2k less than WBAC. See what they come back with tomorrow as that might be a generic valuation until someone actually actions the form.

You must have a idea of a amount you want for the car? Start from there
Autotrader valuations are fairly accurate but dont include factory fitted options and your car is well optioned and being the case you'll get more for selling it on the likes of prestige cars...etc etc even advertising it on autotrader firstly then take it from there l sold my last S3 on autotrader no problems at all for the amount l wanted

Auto Trader was going to be my go to, was more curious if someone had used an alternative source to any success. How long did it take to sell on auto trader?

I used Tootle but that's not much use as they've gone under now...but I sold directly to a car dealer in Sheffield using it and got halfway between WBAC and Private sale which suited me, was less hassle and a quick sale

3 days it took, advertise it for a bit more than you want for it,the likes of prestige cars and other similar garages will contact you through autotrader if they are interested, you can then vet the calls and emails you receive through the site...most honest buyers will leave you a voicemail stating who they are...take it from there

Did wonder what happened to them, seen all the good reviews then went to the website and it had already gone

That's at lot quicker than I thought, gives me hope. Had some horror 3 month wait in mind haha. Waiting for a friends dslr to borrow before I put the advert up, picture paints a thousand words and all that!

Give it a good wash and wax etc etc..tip shine up them exhaust pipes...also having fairly new tyres on it does help....as does a full service history in writing of course

She's got Gyeon Mohs+ lavishing her beautiful paint so comes up a treat.

You could try the Sytner buying team. They offered me a price for my previous car that was very close to the private sale prices on Autotrader and weirdly, 25% better than the trade in price I was offered by a Sytner dealer. Transaction was very smooth and they didn’t indulge in any of the WBAC BS of knocking the price down for every microscopic paint imperfection.

Will give them a look. Yeah, it seems hit and miss, I guess it's what they're after stockwise at the time and if they have interest in a particular car from a customer. They know they can offset the higher purchase price for them by the profit made on finance

Thanks, have just sent the form in.
My S3 went to these guys, great to deal with, met their driver at my local train station, paperwork and payment made, keys handed over, no quibbles over the price.

Yeh better than WBAC, potentially not as good as selling private but I wanted it gone and hassle free.

That's the main thing. Wouldn't expect them to match private but long as it's competitive it's okay. And like you say no hassle and no tyre kickers

Probably hit and miss to what they are after. Might come back with a better offer as it is sunday so computer generated.

Been thinking recently of trading my 9 month old S3 for something cheaper so this thread has had some real helpful advice. PX offers have been horrendous

Yeah, it's been good for myself as well. Nice to learn of other options to use rather than relying on private sale alone

Arnold Clark offered me the most for my A3. When checking trade in vs second hand prices they have always been the highest for S3’s I’ve been looking at too.

My car was quite well looked after, he had a quick walk round, said was mint and paid up the offer. Wasn’t really fussed about service history. Bear in mind they won’t up the offer for options despite the website saying their quoted offer doesn’t include these.

Private would obviously achieve more but depends if you want the time and hassle associated.
