Picked up my car 2 weeks ago and to the day some absolute plank has opened their door into it, no notes etc left.

Assuming this can be smart repaired, does anyone have experience of smart repairs and thoughts?

Damage is 10p in size, slight dent and pierced the paint.

Where are you based?
There's a guy near me who runs whatdent and he's amazing at the painless dent removal. He doesn't do any sort or painting though. Another guy near me does that and he's ace too. I have a bit on my rear arch that needs doing, I just never have the time during the week.

This is why I either park out of the way, on an end (making sure lots of space between the next car) as people don't care about other peoples cars.

I also never park next to a car that has a child seat in.

I’m the same and parked in the best possible space I could find, passenger side was against a wall as close as can be leaving plenty of space on my side, when we arrived car park was almost empty so thought it would be a safe bet.

That’s the problem, people don’t care and we pick up their bills. I’m calming down now but hunting them down and killing their goldfish was high on my agenda yesterday.

Is is a joke mate, you are right, people don’t give a ****. Not liking your original post by the way.

I have used smart repairs before, worth a quote. There are a few round here (Glocs):

Flying Colours, Chipsaway.
There is also one nationwide (I think) called revive

Good luck mate

Any experience of using them mate? concerned the repair won’t be up to scratch.

Have been quoted £290 for a full repair.

People don’t appreciate that some work hard for their cars and take care of them.

Yep and it f-ing annoys me when they have no respect for YOUR things.

I get it all the time "How can you afford a car like that?" errr it's called hard work and not being in the pub every night or smoking 20 fags a day...drives me mad.

Who was that with? As long as they guarantee work and it will look good as new, happy days.

My father in law recently got a quote from chipsaway in Glocs, but they chose to to quote as said they could not fix it sufficiently...far play, as they came out

Can recommend Chips Away also, used them on a previous car I owned and they done a really good job. Main benefit is that they can work around your schedule unlike having to take it into a paint shop etc.

That’s with a garage in Cheltenham rather than a Smart repairer. Chips away have actually quoted more than the garage,4)3 garage comes recommended.

Must admit I wasn’t expecting it to be that much but hey ho.

Waiting on one last quote then will make a decision.

Fair enough, I would say “proper” repair always best, assuming they are not doing their version of a smart repair

The chips away reviews are very good though, I spoke to the Stonehouse store and they did give me confidence that they’d do a good job.

I need to speak to the garage tomorrow to see what they actually plan to do.

I am probably gonna get stick here but I have noticed that women have to open the door all the way when they get in or get out the car. they swing it open past the first notch. When we go shopping I sit in the car and keep guard becuase all the spaces in supermarkets are tight. I have sat and witnessed many a car get dings through women just swinging the door open. also I too will not park near a car or people carrier with child seats, I stay well clear. I have actually moved from a spot much to my wifes annoyance becuase at the last second I spotted the child seat. Sorry Ladies.

Sorry to see the damage to your car. Hope you get it sorted. I always worry about colour matching.

I’m the same, park well away from others and on the end of rows of bays. As said by others people don’t care about others and tbh their own cars (some treat them as bumper cars!). I’ve got a parking bay at home and several times have had to go round to the neighbours and ask them to not let their kids throw their toys over the fence as my car parking bay is right behind it (found action figures where the wipers are!). I got a shrug and was told “it’s only a car”. No, it’s not A car, ITS MY CAR, which I work hard for. I now park well forward in the space!

I park over the lines in the parking bay so no one can get next to me.

Problem with that is it winds people up, so more chance of someone deliberately damaging your car!

Punch the kid in the face and say "It's only a kid" :p:D

Some people think just because they are kids they can do anything. A mate of mine was at Chester zoo when he saw a kid climbing all over a display and pulling leaves off the plants, his parents weren't doing anything!!! So my mate told the kid off :D "Hey don't be climbing all over the display and pulling bits off the plant, it' not a playground", the kids mum turned around and went ballistic at him say "Don't you tell my child off, don't you tell my child off, who are you to tell my child off, you have no right to tell my child off?", my mate calmly said "Well keep him under control then" and walked off :D He said a lot of other members of the public were smiling at him as if to say "Nice one mate" :)

The little buggers know they are untouchable.
Was walking through town the yesterday and this kid maybe around 8-10 years old was effing this and effing that talking to his mum and then called his mum a stupid b1tch. His mum just took it and didn’t even try to stop him swearing. If I tried that with my folks when I was his age I would have been knocked into next week.

I play kid ping pong! I'm over 6ft and weigh 15 stone, when the hard faced little gits walk straight towards me and give that look 'I'm not moving', I just brace my side/arm solid and let them walk straight into me :D it's great when they bounce off :)

My dad only had to look at me if I was being naughty...and I was like "Ohh 5h*t" and would soon behave.

Extreme parking is the only antidote. It isn't infallible though as @TYb has unfortunately experienced. I've been known to drive out of supermarket car parks (much to the missus's annoyance) due to risk assessment. She kind of gets it now though after earlier this year we saw a Scratter dump her shopping on the bonnet of the car behind her boot, while her (ferral) kids opened both rear passenger doors onto the 2 cars either side to get in. A three car slam in one. Couldn't believe it. 'Tis why I do this (multi storey car park. floor 6. Floors 4 and 5 were pretty empty, but why take any chances, lol). Hope you get it sorted @TYb.

It’s awful now a days, I hate to say it but I think it’s a UK problem, I’ve been around Europe quite a lot this summer and haven’t seen half the problems I see around my city on a daily basis. Not saying it doesn’t happen abroad I’m sure it does, but the UK seems to be particularly bad...

Growing up even in the 2000’s I wouldn’t have dared to do half of the stuff that kids manage to get away with now, my parents would never have tolerated it :tearsofjoy:

I went a little longer. Three weeks of ownership until somebody ran into the back of me on the new Forth Road Bridge. Livid

That bridge is a pain.
You got people who think it’s a 50mph limit and slams on the brakes as they approach it when there’s no car in front of them. Then you get the ones, I mean a lot of them, that tries to look through the wind barriers at the new warships getting built while driving at 20mph in the overtaking lane. My dashcam has picked up so much dodgy driving on that bridge it’s unreal but either side of the bridge it’s fine. Just on that bridge that’s the problem.

This was heavy rush hour traffic and it all suddenly came to a halt. I was keeping good distance from the car in front and had no problem stopping, in fact I stopped a good two car lengths behind him; 2 seconds later............BANG! Small chunk out the bumper, creased and scratched, 1 reverse sensor dislodged because of snapped off retaining tabs and crash bar bent. Still £1100 worth of damage though apparently. I'm not paying, his insurance is thankfully

My other half used to complain about my choice of parking locations until somebody wrote hers off in a car park.

The other driver knocked her car with such force we found it about three feet back from where it was left and while they helpfully left a note the driver then tried to denied they had caused any damage...
