Hello guys. I want to swap a 2.8 vr6 golf engine mk4 4x4. I want to ask if everything fits into the engine bay of the S3 8L ??? I'm thinking of putting a R32 BUB head too? And how are things going to install a turbo kit on it?

It fits a few mods need doing, need the v6 gearbox aswell, I’m doing the 3.2t swap and tuffty has done the 3.2 swap already and is also looking to turbo install as-well look at his build page for for swap info and be warned turboing the 3.2 and doing the engine conversion is expensive

Also you don’t want bub engine that is mk5 you want the mk4 2.8,mk4 r32 and tt 8n 3.2

I want to buy 2.8 bde and put a r32 head. I read inet information that the head of the R32 matches 2.8 block ?? This is my idea ???

what kind of manual gearbox do I need exactly???

The one from a mk4 Quattro as long as it’s from one of the cars above

Mk5 engines are direct injection (TFSi) so not really suitable ... As TJ said... use a Mk4 chassis car head/engine if you really feel the need too... they are port injection

I’ve got a 3.2 V6 engine for sale at the moment if anyone’s interested.

What power are you hoping to achieve
400hp

Okay thanks .. is it plug & play with 2.8l engine from mk4 4motion? Or find a 3.2l engine from A3 8P with manual gearbox but ?? How things are with the ECU ??

2.8 will work and will be cheaper than a 3.2 block You need to use ecu from the car you get the engine and and a manual boost controller and use maf readings so the ecu won’t see boost or go standalone ecu and fit a n75, all depends how much you want to spend, you will need to fit a head gasket spacer, info I found says you don’t need forged rods till Around 450bhp but I’d do it just for peace if mind, what turbo you planning on using? Also 400bhp you can still use the plastic inlet manifold, then there’s the clutch you will need something better than standard, same with engine mounts

Wow.. many thanks for the info you need dude :)))

That’s just the start of it there will be a few problems to over come on the that you will find , when you looking to start it

Not sure what injectors are available for the 2.8 heads... the design is different to that of the 3.2

The 2.8 (also the same as the 2.3 V5 engine)

...and the 3.2....

The 3.2 follows a more 'normal' bosch style injector and I am using a set of Bosch 630cc versions of these (with the long nose)... the 2.8 injectors have a double seal setup so not sure what is available thats a larger flow rate..

I did flow test the 3.2 injectors just to see what they were and from memory they were 230cc at 3bar... the 3.2 has a 4bar fpr... I swapped to a 3bar FPR for the 630's I am using

What about the head ports inbetween both heads 2.8 and 3.2 ?
The question is
Why they do this head swap, they put 3.2 head on 2.8 just for the stroker and because the in/out ports on 3.2 head looks more promising?
What about the ECU adaptation to work with the turboed setup
-How that works ? Or it’s info that only a Mapper needs to worry about...
How to make all the electronics works together, maybe its non neccesarry to know, but it’s interesting thing to know here in the forum to get more in depth info about it..
Inet is full of 3.2/2.8 swap threads, but no one explains certain details that are very important in this kind of Engine upgrade/swap

3.2 ports are larger iirc...

ECU will need mapping to recalibrate injectors, timing etc for the hardware changes... I believe the 3.2MAF tube is larger but tbh not spent too much time looking into the 2.8's as I was always going to go 3.2...

The engine itself is pretty much bolt in... there are subtle changes to things like the coolant lines, PAS lines etc but if you have a 4-motion donor car then you can more or less lift and shift...

You will need to use the 4-motion looms if using the OE ECU... As I was using Ignitron ECU I just got away with using the smaller ECU plug loom (from a 3.2 TT) and added in the wires I needed and removed ones I didn't... made the conversion much easier but bare in mind IECU is a single lambda ECU currently so I only have one lambda in use... not ideal but as I will only need one for going turbo its fine for now...

I have documented a lot of this in my build thread...
