Trade in I get 15k, privately sold similar cars on autotrader are 19k so realistically 18k which is still a 3k difference if I put the effort in and sell myself.

But my question is, do people buy 18k cars privately? Has anyone sold their A4 privately, share any experiences please.

Not an A4 but I have previously sold a T5 Transporter van for 20k cash. Unknown how the buyer had that money but they are out there, get your advert up, you’ll be surprised who comes along.

I had it advertised on a few sites, pistonheads, autotrader, eBay, Gumtree...you name it. Can’t remember which was successful in the end.

I bought my RS4 privately, I prefer buying from the owner. You can tell a lot about how the car has been looked after.
You cannot tell when you buy it from a dealer.

A lot of people fund there cars via a personal loan. So the cash ends up in the bank and you are then free to withdraw it. You just need to give the bank a couple days notice I believe

Sold a q7 for 25k cash and Sq5 for 38k bank transfer, so people are definitely out there. There needs to be an incentive either rare spec or cheap price though over the protection a trader sale offers.

Wow, can you remember which site you sold those on?

I sold my A3 saloon privately. Never again. So many timewasters, people saying they'd definitely have it then never hear from them again, people not turning up to arranged viewings etc.
Car was worth about 16.5k at the time, fully loaded with options and mint condition. Advertised at 16.9 with a view to getting circa 15.5-16. Had some cheeky ***** ring up and say "I've only got 12k to spend". Plus just constant messing me around in one way or the other & a bunch of other stupid offers. Eventually sold via bank transfer for less than I wanted, but just wanted rid of it. Like I said, never again. Will always PCP now and just give it back.

But if you do choose to go down that route, I found autotrader gave the most potential customers, and paying for the premium package when I relisted made a big difference.

I think the route I found best to avoid cheapskates and time wasters was to only advertise on Autotrader.

eBay, Pistonheads Etc all have the wrong type of buyer in my experience.

+1 I was bombarded with calls and messages from every Tom, **** and Harry.

Depending on your urgency to sell, consider sticking to AutoTrader. The only reason I flooded the net with my advert was because it was late November when I was selling up (not a great time to sell a campervan) and I was due to collect my S4 in a week.

Just sold my RS3 for £40k on auto trader. First guy and offered full asking price but did have loads of calls. Always sell privately on autotrader every change of car.

Sold a couple of cars on Autotrader including £7k 3 series. Got about £1.5k more than part exchange offer. Always insist on speaking to the buyer before arranging a test drive, insist on bank transfer and funds in your account before letting the car go. Use a Car Magazine contract for the sale. Make all this clear ahead of any test drive.

I’d also advise making it very clear that the price you ask for or a Ono is what you will accept. Had a few potential buyers try and haggle me down after a test drive, but I was able to make it clear “when we spoke I told you my target price” and they went away disappointed.

Tempted to put my S4 on Autotrader, but its a lot more expensive to post an ad when the car is over £10k!

Grabbed my S4 on autotrader. Only went with private as it was a great price with high spec. Unless those two happened again, I'd buy from a dealer.

Guys, if any of you are selling your Audi, we have a site sponsor who buys them. If your car is no more than 4 years old, less than 40,000 miles, is standard from factory then they will give you a price. The links for their website are scrolling around the forum banners. If you do get in touch with them, your looking to speak to Graham and tell them your from asn. Link below. A few members have already sold to them.

It’s been fun guys!
