Hello everyone
I thought I would ask what people think who perhaps have knowledge of the Golf R.
I have a new S3 and since getting it, my partner has fancied changing his year old Mercedes a250 with the new digital dash. I must say, coming from a Mercedes myself, I do think the Audi interior is a bit bland but the bhp makes up for it.
There seems to be bigger discounts on the golf R than the s3. He prefers hatchbacks so we are comparing s3 hatch to the golf r. The digital dash seems to have been on every golf I have found so far. I think the engines are the same.
Am I missing why the golf r is cheaper than the s3? Thank you for any input.

VW has always been cheaper than Audi.

Both good cars & there are some great deals on the ''R'' . Saw a lot on Autotrader a while back with the £3,00.00+ Akrapovic exhaust fitted on pre reg ones!!!!

Thank you for your replies chaps. He surprised me and stuck with Mercedes. Paid a deposit on a pre reg A35.
Ended up getting a better deal than VW were offering on their pre reg models. The A35 was cheaper to start with and they offered more in part ex than VW offered

I wouldn’t have a new s3 or an r they are good cars but there ****** everywhere nowadays not like a few years ago when the r32’s and s3’s were a rare site on the road and a drivers car

I have had several Audis and one VW, the VW I had cut corners compared to Audi, things you won't see on the outside or perhaps notice on a test drive. E.g. bonnet didn't have a hydraulic strut on the VW, doors and tailgate were very light on the VW compared to my Audis, not necessarily a bad thing but passengers always slammed the doors or boot, VW may share a lot of parts but don't have the same quality feel. There will be exceptions I'm sure, this is just my personal experience.

I've always considered VW as an Audi that's been built to a price, still good but not as good.
