Hi there to everyone!

I bought and send a Chrome Mirrors to a friend for his S3 8L Facelift since someone has ripped off the original ones somewhere inbetween all the years and fitted A3 8L non facelift ones. LOL
The main problem is that after they has been fitted from RHD to LHD the main centre of the glass angle is the opposite way . He is in shock , he tried his best to remote regulate them to fit LHD angle but does not work well at all.

We wonder that , if we take off the glass and fit LHD glass holders what would happend? Does the main centre depends on that?
We think that’s the main difference inbetween RHD n LHD mirrors except that Main wide angle Mirror it’on the right side.
Any suggestions and advices are welcome
We got them cheap That’s why I thought and told him let’s get the UK ones. The retail of these is way higher in Bulgaria..

I never had problem with mine since I drive RHD S3 and never thought that there’s any difference... Stupid me

To sort out the glass. I think you would have to swap over the glass holders and the glass should then fit in as it should. Could be completely wrong but in my head it sounds right.

They definitely make the car look better especially darker colours, I bought a 2nd set as they come up cheap but the prices people are asking now are stupid was some on eBay last week for £350 and they not even that good condition, who ever pays that much has more money than sense, even aset of the fake plastic ones was on there for over £100

Think I saw them £300 ones. There nice but not £300 nice lol.
Not to hijack this thread but how's your 3.2 v6 build coming along @Tj 0785
Its going slow, I’ve got all the bits to rebuild the engine and get the engine and turbo fitted in the bay just need clutch/gearbox and downpipe but just need to get a move on with it instead of buying body parts aswell just need to concentrate on getting the engine done,I hired a storage unit and not even put the engine in yet hopefully I can start stripping it down beginning of sept

I paid £150 and the 2nd set I got for £90
But usually around £130-150 on eBay when I’ve asked people breaking s3’s there usually the 1st things to go

Sorry @killfame could you now swap them on to the right Lhd base of the original mirrors

As I already mention my friend bought his S3 fitted with A3 non facelift ones, which means one Normal Mirror and one Small one which looks terribly ugly and wrong on S3 model
And if anyone’s interested how these retail they go around 100-300 most of the time and thats fair enough for 20y old mirrors which become great classic for it’s vision... We got the mirrors for 135£ shipped , so... the price is fair enough
The retail of these in most Europe dealerships is around 800€ for a peace as I heard before.
Most of the details on S3 are very expensive since they are none re produced by third party companies... If you get what I mean.
The mirrors are in perfectly great shape except one micro stone chip , next to mine are very shiny as crystals

Bases are different on RHD and LHD models, nothing you can do other than swap the bases (which isn’t exactly a 5 minute job).

You’ll never get the angle of the glass you need to see out of them properly because the bases are so different, the adjuster units are the same regardless of LHD/RHD.

So , basically he has to buy another set of LHD and just swap the covers and can he keep the glasses as well because S3 ones are Blue Smoked and look extremely nice

You’ll need to completely remove the bases (everything circled in red)

You’ll need to de-pin the connector first to allow you to pull the cable through, then remove the locking tab (green arrow) making sure you don’t break it.
Then the whole mirror will come apart so you can swap the base, you’ll need to make a tool to compress the spring when you’re putting them back together.
Have a read of this, it will give you a better idea of what’s involved:
