Does the Comfort Control Power Supply Unit (the box under the relays by the steering column) need to be coded by VCDS or is it plug 'n' play if fitting another one with the same part number?

It shouldn't be. But that's not the comfort module. Comfort module is under passenger seat.
That's centre electronics module.

Thanks for that @SemedoB6 .

That explains a lot. I've watched what seems like hundreds of videos where many seem to refer to both boxes by pretty much the same or similar names.

Out of interest, do you think the centre electronics module that's had water ingress could cause the front wipers to stop working?

Happy to help pal.

No idea on that. Might even be a faulty wiper mechanism. But I'm just guessing.

I've replaced the wiper motor and the linkage but still nothing, no power is getting to the motor. The wipers going on the fritz does coincide with water getting into the CEM though. And the fuse is fine.

Maybe it's the module then.
Have a look on ebay. You might find a direct replacement cheap.

Got one in the post on its way to me already. Should have it on Tuesday. Fingers crossed it gets my car back on the road.

My new centre electronics module arrived today so I fitted it and now have not only working wipers but the engine starts and doesn't stall within a few seconds. So a good result all round.

Just in case water ever found it's way in again I fitted some clear sticky plastic film (my daughter uses it to cover her school books) to the top side of the module to stop the water getting into the case. There's no cooling vents on it so guess it's OK to do this.

Now I have an error code saying '01794 - Control Module - Incorrect Chassis (VIN) Number' so need to work out how to change this on VCDS. A job for later in the week.

That's an easy fix.
Go into adaptation channel 081 and wait for the pop up window with a code. Type the code into new value field, test and save.
Clear code and this should match the new part to your car's vin number.
It's been a while since I've done this. But I'm pretty sure that's the procedure to get rid of that code.
But if u ou can't that's nothing to worry about because it won't keep it from performing like it should..

Cheers for that, it worked a treat. I was even able to code both key remotes too First time I've had two working. :icon thumright:
