Tinted plates

@jimdonovan01

What possessed you? Why would you or anyone think that looks good?

Looks ridiculous to me and perhaps the police pulled you because they thought you had something to hide?

AND in conversation with the old bill, they picked up on my front windows. They’re 80% tinted. I was expecting to be ripping them off at the road side but he said, and I quote “them windows look a bit dark too, has it passed an MOT” I said yes mate a couple of months ago as you will see on your system... he then said “just make sure it passes its next MOT”

All in all fines and made to change my plates and let off with the windows

I did my front plate just to take the edge of the white when I blacked everything out. Mate put a few drops of black in clear lacquer and sprayed the plate. You can do it so its not too dark. Mine was in combe.

Chris.

Exactly what I was thinking haha

Funnily enough, when I had the plates on I drove past my uncle (retired CID) who rang me and said my plates are absolutely filthy they need cleaning!! So yeah they do look like they’re dirty at times especially if the car is dirty

I think problem with tinted plates is it's easy for police to spot so if they need some "wins" then you're an easy target.

Ok, some time has passed with me driving with tinted plates on and I finally met the copper who is going to be b@stard about it.

I drove past and alongside various traffic units equipped with ANPR cameras and nothing happened.
This one, no, he's not gonna let it go.

Drove past them two in an X5 last night as I was just about to get on a motorway, with all family on board.
For some reason I looked at them and they looked at me.
Blues and sirens on, turned around, passed all the traffic to get behind me and indicate to pull over.
"Sorry driver, you have illegal plates on. They are too dark". No sh@t(!)
"I'm sorry officer, I was was told they are fine and have all legal markings".
Well, they do but are considered as show plates.

Slap on the wrist this time but took my driving licence to the car, punch in details and warned that, if I'll be stopped again, it's a £100 fine per plate.

Still got the old ones in the boot and said I will change them evening but ordered a new set with all legal markings and up to dvla spec.

First few says I was driving with them in, I was kinda nervous, if I'll get stopped or not.
Later it went away untill now.
Glad I got warning but surely they recorded me in the data base so I'll come up on the system whenever next copper decide to stop me, if tinted plates will be still on.
Getting new ones Wed/Thurs so will slap them on for good.

Will keep tinted ones for meets and shows maybe.

Your choice lads

IMO it doesn't make car to go any faster or look any better. Might as well fit neon undercar lights, sorry

Pretty sure that’s from Guernsey? Not all plates are yellow at the back and white at the front!!
First time seen.
Learning every day and I'm gonna die dumb

Yep Guernsey (GBG). They are standard yellow and white, but you can pay extra to have black plates if you so wish. We can’t display the black plates any more unless your car is registered before 1963 or something like that. Having said that, I see black UK plates on cars that are much newer!
