A while back ago i had my dpf removed, an egr bypass cooler pipe fitted (egr cooler was leaking) & my egr deleted & a stage 1 remap on my 2009 1.9 (BLS 105). At the time my car was running like crap and the above solved all the issues for me.

Recently after having had the oil changed i noticed a few days later that my car now chucks out black smoke when i put my foot down, previously it would chuck out a small cloud, now it chucks out giant clouds. So i had a bit of a look under the bonnet to check that no hoses had come off or something or the other and i noticed a few things that i hadn't noticed before.

There appears to be some sort of oil leak towards the back of the engine near the EGR, i was under the impression that my EGR is no longer in use since i had it deleted & blanked. I rang the guy that did the above work for me to ask him why oil would be leaking down that area, and he's said that he only deleted the EGR in the software and no blanking plate fitted! Could this now be the cause of the black smoke & if not how does not having a blanking plate affect my engine long term?

Car still runs fine, no warning lights, no loss of power, fuel consumption is meh same as after it was remapped, just the oil leak & clouds of black smoke i'm worried about.

Oil used was Castrol Edge 5W-30 LL .

dpf egr delete and black smoke is an MOT fail!

It’s normal having small residue- EGR isn’t opening and there is a lot of pressure when driving - a very small amount of leakage will occur. This isn’t your issue son

Deleting EGR reduces smoke, but kills polar bears.
Removing the DPF will increase smoke, but if it’s thick black smoke (unburnt fuel) you either have too little air, so boost leak or faulty turbo. Or you have too much fuel so poor quality or too aggressive map, or a faulty sensor such as MAP, MAF or fuel temp.

Your oil leak is likely unrelated unless it’s coming from a turbo hose, which could indicate a boost leak

The oily soot in the EGR is being pushed out by the boost pressure due to lack of the opening of the EGR valve . Resulting in a small amount of oil residue at the EGR blanking plate which do not actually seal 100% perfectly.
