Anyone got tinted plates or know the best place to order them from. See pic below, I've seen darker tint when I was at castle combe but didnt get round to asking. Only looking for the front.

Could you post where you've got your info. Just so I know before I spend out please.
I have a few mates that run tinted plates and they've been stopped before and given a fine and told to put legal plates on. However it doesn't happen often and depends on the level of tint and what kind of mood the officer is in

Been on a few other forums. As a daily use number plate it's a non starter. Gets very negative feedback from what I can see.

A lot of my customers run them and say they have had no issues, a good number of my customers don’t even run a front plate and seem to be ok in London. Personally I would not risk it, especially if you have a private reg as you could stand to loose it if pulled a couple of times.

I took delivery of tinted plates few weeks ago but didn't had time to put them on yet.

Ordered from ProPlates also and customer service+quality is top notch.

Read on other thread about it and searched online for legality but what it is required by law is for the front plate to be white and rear to be yellow.
If you tint them to ProPlates standard tint (30%) , your plates are still white and yellow but shade darker.
Don't see the problem

Mines are going on in the next few days but will keep the current ones in the boot, if anything.

Why would anyone want these?

Are they cool? Is it to stand out? Is it to flout the law?

I think people's luck with getting tugged by the police with tinted plates vary massively. Same as misgapped plates and the sort. Personally not a huge fan of tinted plates.

I am totally against mis-gapping registrations or silly fonts.

Not enough is done by the police to put an end to this.

I have tinted plates with Illegal gaps (M13RS U). Never had a problem in 3 yrs. If you do get pulled over as long as you can put a legal set on road-side they can't do anything about it. I keep a legal set with legal spelling in my boot at all times. If I do ever get caught I will be saying 'im ever-so sorry I have come from a show, il change those for you right now'. I will be nice as pie and see if i get away with it. Tinted rear plates look the nuts with my rear end having the audi rings in black and the S3 logo in black.

Bit of 3M tape in the boot with them, no prob :footy::busted cop:

attached a picture for reference:-

What tint percentage do you have? Seen 30% as a base.

Not 100% sure if I am honest. I did not go silly dark. Not sure if my photo shows it in best light... It looks darker in person. 30% is probably about right?

Which supplier did you use?

Don't see the point. Seems a bit sad to me trying to make a plate something that it is not.

Sorry :innocent:

Not being much help here am I! I used a bloke at traxworks- the big car show at BrandsHatch. He was a seller there and could do them on the day for you while you wait.

I have heard only good things about exclusive registrations+ Pro plates...

Makes the car Stand out in my opinion

I have carbon Gel fonts on my other cars & again no problem. Causes no one any harm and I have had plenty of police cars behind me & they arent fussed one bit. They have bigger fish to fry than an S3 driving along at the speed limit with tinted plates.

If I am witness to an accident or even worse involved in one I think I have the right to be able to read a number plate accurately and quickly without having to decipher it!

ps Keep sticking to the speed limit :tonguewink:

Here's my front stuck in to try out.
Does look nice. Even in that light (or lack of it)

Proper fixing and front/rear pictures to follow.

Imho, ProPlates are wicked.
Customer Service is available 24/7 on Messenger as they do work nights and reply quickly.
I made an error with my order and ordered my plates with Carbon 3D gel lettering. I didn't liked it and send the plates back for them to reapply standard black 3D gel lettering. They did so at no extra cost and shipped plates back to me.
All required legal markings are on the plates so, should be ok.
I did however, asked them to do the 35% tint.

Managed to install the plates.

Pictures taken with enhanced night mode in phone camera but will take some pictures in day light also.

Comparison of two plates is with visible difference of shade.

I see more and more cars on the roads with them plates so it must be ok.
Time will tell

Please, don't mind the filth on the car. Weekend before the last one, I've came back from nearly 1000km trip and had no time to wash it yet.
There are still Polish, German, Netherlands, Brussels, French and local bugs on the paint.
Wash is due soon

looks great!! love the tint.

Day time pics.

Rear does look darker but front with this light isn't. Direct sun can do that on the road also

I recently ordered GEL plates from these guys 4 days later and £50 down i receive a box with blank number plates.... You cant imagine how mad I was.

Guys,
Just today, I have come across this video:

Have a look at Yanny's Avantador's front plate.
We all getting on about tinted plates, which both of he's cars also have but that front sticker isn't legal at all. Where is the white reflective background for the letters? How were you supposed to see that in your rear view mirror?

Bet you he's hettin pulled by coppers more often than I will be.

Agree with you but to be fair I’d rather them be out catching the endless scumbags we seem to have roaming around our lawless society.

True but there is a separate traffic division that deal with road issues.

Had them on mine, lasted about 2 and half months till I was pulled. £100 fine per plate under section 59. Tbh they looked darker than in the picture you couldn’t really see them.

It looks good, but realistically not ideal. If you was caught up in a bump you wouldn’t be insured and if the car was stolen it makes it much harder for ANPR cameras to pick up the plates.

Wow! That is really dark. Cannot tell yellow background from black lettering anymore.

I had a motorbike copper on my route to work this morning. He was writing something on he's little notepad or playing tick&toe with himself. I drove past and he joined the traffic.
He was good 15-20 cars behind me but quickly catched up.
I was driving like on the driving test. All maneuvers correctly indicated, speed under the limit, music down. All not to draw any attention, as these are the types assigned for traffic enforcement.
Passed by me and drove few minutes in front of me, checking the rear often in mirrors and went elsewhere.

Think my plates are ok or he won maybe on he's little notepad. Maybe just had a good day or it was my lucky day.

Was the fine for having the wrong size plate along with the tint?

There are no rules regarding the size of the number plate. The rules only cover the spacing between the letters and the edge of the plate.

I got fined for having tinted plates under section 59(1). The size of the plates are legal just NOT the tint. Not even 5% of tint on a plate is legal. Mine were about 80% so yeah they looked more darker looking that then in person pictures don’t do it justice. Here’s my notice
