Evening all,

I noticed that my car (tiptronic box, C7.5 3.0 BiTDI) kind of started bunny hopping as I came to a stop recently, almost like it was about to stall. It’s only happened once.

Then possibly, or possibly not related, I noticed recently that the Start/Stop is cutting. The engine before I’ve actually come to a stop, like when I’m inching into a parking space at 1 or 2mph. Should it not wait until the car is at a stop completely? Does this happen with anybody else’s car?

I usually have Start/Stop turned off, but sometimes I forget. Worried about having it switched off with VCDS in case it affects the extended warranty I’ve just taken out.

You should be able to have a start / stop system status memory configured via VCDS or alike on your vehicle. Basically what this does is remember the SS system state between ignition cycles allowing you to basically deactivate the feature until you need it again.

You can (with carista) force the car to remember the last setting of the stop start system, so I keep mine turned off permanently.
I'm not sure this will answer your question mate but it may help you determine if it's the stop start system causing the issue.
I have had it before, when coming to stop just before stationary, that the car kind of jumps forward slightly when the gearbox shifts from 2nd to 1st. Tbh 2nd to 1st can be a harsh change even when coming to a roundabout or junction. Not always but sometimes. I would just monitor it and see if does it everytime or intermittently.
Hope it's nothing bad for you mate

Thanks guys. I don’t want to make any changes with VCDS/Carista until the warranty has elapsed really. I don’t mind doing a scan, but don’t want to do any home modifications to the car.

Just wondering whether other people had had the same thing. Sounds like it’s done it on yours, Paul, which is reassuring that maybe it’s normal. Would rather find out in here if it’s normal than pay for Audi to diagnose.

Yes I get the same thing sometimes. Coming to a stop, the engine cuts out before you actually stop. Little annoying.

Its an issue ive noticed on the C7.5 platform where as the C7 was fine. They all seem to shut off just before you have fully stopped losing steering assistance.
Ive switched mine (C7) off completely as its annoying and undue stress on the starter/battery etc.

I noticed the shutoff on the C7.5 ultra it was cutting off well before you came to a stop (under 5mph), however when I got the C7.5 quattro that was gone, and the stop/start is much more controllable depending on how hard you press the brake peddle.

Seems to be normal for quite a few then. Seems strange to me that they would program it that way, it must surely just be a software thing.

It's software, as it all based around emissions! It's why the ultra 2.0TDI front wheel drive is cheap tax of £30 V the quattro version with the same engine and that's £125.

To be honest the stop/start on the ultra was a little to aggressive for my liking, so was please when I got the quattro version and it's operation was more predictive and controllable.

I wish mine was predictable. Some journeys it decides it wants to come on, then other journeys I can do hundreds of junctions without it coming on at all. I’m not a big fan, so I do like the fact it doesn’t always work tbh.

Just had a thought, I never noticed this early activation of the Stop/Start until after the emissions update. Again, maybe I’m reading too much into it.

As long as it’s not just my car, I’m happy & that does seem to be the case.

Lot's of factors depend on how and when stop/start can kick in, engine temperature, aircon use/internal cabin temp, dpf regen, battery voltage, fault codes registered on modules, etc etc. It would have been nice to have a MMI or DIS menu to show if stop/start was enabled and if not what is the issue stopping it working.....

I didn’t realise it took all that into account, though I was curious about its intermittent behaviour, so you’ve answered that for me.

Agree about the display. It would also be nice if the display told you when it was doing a regen, rather than having to figure it out from a series of clues, like Sherlock Holmes. Even my Transit van tells me.

I wish my ultra was 125 for tax!!
Also think the stop start is annoying, sometimes after i go real slow over a speed bump it just cuts out. I thought i was stalling at first but its defo the s/s kicking in, PITA actually

All depends on when the car was taxed, my 2016 (16 plate) Ultra was £30, but my 2016 (66) quattro was £125. I complete agree the ultra stop/start was a pain, for me the car should be at a full stop before it kicks in, and it does that on the quattro version. It could be a VCDS change but I've never looked into it.

Mines is £425 or thereabouts due to the tax changing onto value when new being over£40k...
