Have you heard the S4/S5 rumour...

Seeing as we've debated this to death in another thread I am rather surprised to see a new one stated.
It isn't about the exhaust noise either if you look in there, road tests of this, and other Audi S cars, have identified turbo lag, which the electric compressor, Audi claim, is supposed to eliminate.
See here https://www.audi-sport.net/xf/threads/have-you-heard-the-s4-s5-rumour.383799/page-22
Seriously, a new thread, started by a MODERATOR.
The current thread has gone 22 pages, to date. If you like, you may prefer to continue the other thread, which has currently 5 pages.
https://www.audi-sport.net/xf/threads/new-my2020-facelift.382405/page-5
Commonsense would be to arrange this thread to be incorporated into one of the two existing.
At least that would save posters regurgitating.
Yeah @Bristle Hound how much actual moderating are you doing exactly?
@cuke2u @SMI77 @Evil Derboy - no photo’s in the other thread guys hence this non rumour thread
Still I can see where your coming from, well I can except for @Evil Derboy comments !

True BH, there are photos elsewhere in this forum though, but I am sure if a couple of forum members actually buy one I will look forward to hearing their reviews and photos too as there is nothing like owners experiences.
However all I'm seeing in your post is img

The new S4 will be diesel? I didn’t know :welcoming::welcoming:

Gees, I see the post police are out again!
Does it really matter!? How many posts on ‘new tires’ ? Get over it, if you don’t want to read it, don’t - or don’t dwell on all that valuable time you spent clicking on it only to find out its old news!
I for one are happy to see mr @Bristle Hound posting again! Regardless of content

@cuke2u - Looks like the images have been lost in the merge

But like you say there are other photo's in the forum of the new S4 diesel

Just comparing the engine specs of the S4/S6 and there seems to be no difference in power /torque between the two models (349PS/700NM)?
What's the point in getting an S6 (performance wise), or am I missing something?

Bigger car?

Actually, the S4 and SQ5 have 347 PS, the S6 and S7 349 PS with a very minor / subtle difference in tune. Same engine and set up, and same torque, but a very marginal difference.

The 2 PS might come from the way the specialist way in which the exhaust is configured, as in one side only with the pipe turned towards the floor like a 90's Citroen / Peugeot

Actually not enough.
0-60 - S4 & S5 4.8secs; S6 5.0 secs; S7 & SQ5 5.1 secs

If the S6,S7 & SQ5 have an extra bend in the exhaust than the straighter S4/S5, wouldn't that actually decrease the power?
DTUK have proved there is ample reserve in the ECU. Only Audi can answer why they did just a 'half-a-job'.

Anyone who has ever put their car on a RR knows not to pay too much attention to manufacturer's figures.
My B8.5 which Audi advertised as 333PS made 342PS (0.98bar 14C) on MRC's RR.
A B9 which Audi advertised as 354PS made 343PS (0.98bar 15C) on the same RR.
Which is more likely?
1) The engineers at Audi used an engine dyno on their new 3.0 TDI for the S6/S7 and measured 349PS. Then they were instructed to make a minor change to detune it for the S4/S5/SQ5 so they did and the dyno read 347PS.
2) The Audi marketeers saw the engineering figures for the S6/S7 engine and decided that it looked a bit low and so they decided to change the last figure to a 9. Then they were told that the same engine was going to be used in the S4/S5/SQ5 and they decided it can't have the same power. So since S4 is 2 less than S6, and S5/SQ5 is two less than S7, why not make the power 2 less as well? And why we are on the subject, what the hell is a PS? And can I have my bonus now?

S4 (Diesel) now on the configurator (and hardly any options to choose)

It doesn’t seem to have blind spot detectors or heads up display as option or standard. Can anyone see otherwise?

Options have been reduced on all the A4 models for some reason. Some are suggesting that it's due to the new WLTP tests, as each option needs to be tested. Personally I feel Audi have made yet another poor marketing decision.

I must admit I’m struggling with the notion that WLTP is the reason some options are not available. The Vorsprung variant is rumoured to have virtually all options such as matrix lights, memory seats as standard, albeit some £13k more. That begs the question why aren't they available for other variants.

It’s because in providing all of those options as one ‘job lot’ (Vorsprung), Audi have only had to run a WLTP test once, for that job lot. Otherwise, they’re required to test every single possible combination of options, one at a time. You could quite reasonably argue that they should have, but I understand that they haven’t due to time and cost constraints. But if they had tried to do this, the entire A4 update would have been delayed until next year, which have meant even more lost sales to BMW and Mercedes. In time I’d expect further testing to take place, at least with the most popular options, and for them to become available.

Whatever, Audi are pricing private buyers out of the market by limiting the options or by making the vehicles too expensive if you want them.
Purely a marketing decision to force prospective purchasers, if they wish to stay with the brand, into a certain direction.
Sooner or later they will either be dropping saloon or Advant models by citing lack of sales, and announcing them as SUV's. Such as Ford are doing with the mondeo..

I couldn’t find Vorsprung models for either the A4 or S4 on the Audi Configurator. Do you have a link to these models I could look at please

Just found this from auto express so it seems no Vorsprung trim on A4:

“The Vorsprung package can be specced with the A5, A7, Q3, Q5, Q7 and Q8. This trim level expands on the Black Edition adding Matrix LED headlights and the choice of either 20-inch, 21-inch or 22-inch alloy wheels (depending on the model).

Other upgrades included in the Vorsprung package include adaptive suspension for the A5, A7 Sportback and Q5, adaptive air suspension for the Q7 and Q8 and a range of assistance systems including parking assist, a gesture-controlled boot-lid active lane assist, cross traffic assist.”

It will be available but not until Q4 since the B&O included within it is not available until then...

B&O is already available for S4 in the Comfort and Sound pack

Can one get an Audi finance quote for the new S4 Avant. I’ve spec,d one in the (iPad) configurator and loaded this spec into the Audi web site and got a price but can’t seem to get a finance quote from the Audi.co.uk web site. I’m looking to see whether it has a lower APR that a used (petrol) S4 and may actually be cheaper.

The S4 diesel Avant performance is the same as the earlier model petrol (0-60 in 4.9 seconds) but the mpg is 44 as opposer to low 20s for the petrol. Coming from a 520d touring with a 65 litre tank and ~50mpg with a 600-700 mile range on a full tank (depending on driving style) I’m tempted by the new Diesel S4. I’m Understand that Audi don’t apply a 10% premium in the event of a no deal Brexit that Porsche are doing so no nasty surprises !

Anyone got a 4 year PCP indicative quote on this new diesel S4 Avant which is ~£54k with my preferred options.

I've usually found the offers they do reflective of PCP, currently for the A4 they're at 4.9apr...

@cuke2u - You can tell by your posts that you are not getting another new Audi

PS Getting £8800 discount on a new no options Avant as above thro DriveTheDeal if anyones interested

Correct BH, however I may return to the brand at some point, but I never buy the same car twice, and the facelifted A4 doesn't appeal to me at all.
There are some very good discounts on the facelifted A4 though, which is rare on a 'new' car.
My thread https://www.audi-sport.net/xf/threads/decisions-decisions.396690/
@cuke2u - have you seen the discounts on the a6 Avant black editions?
I’m getting 25% discounts (over £12k off!)
£50k+ car for under £38k - madness !
