255 front 235 rear?

I wanted to ask what people thought of the staggered setup against the 235 front and rear. I currently have the 235 all round but considering going to the 255 front or 245 all round. What are the benefits to the staggered setup?

On the road I struggle to believe the majority of it will tell any difference, I've driven both even if 3 months apart and there is nothing striking.

The biggest advantage to the 255 front's is the way they look, really cool if running Pirelli's. But also Audi want £295 a tyre, I got 2 online for £345 delivered.

If you want it for the driving experience, I'd give it a miss unless you are a manic track expert haha.

+1 driven both although only in the dry . Couldn’t tell them apart . This was on a variety of roads . Track maybe but then u would prob be running different rubber altogether.

A recent trip to have new tyres fitted ended up in the fitter being completely perplexed as to why the tyres were wider up front!

So much so he argued the toss that they should be on the back. Had to show him my Audi spec sheet just to prove I wasn’t mad lol

Putting my reg into Black Circles, they suggest that my car may have the bigger tyres at the rear, which is how it is.

So, is the spec sheet for my car incorrect, or should it indeed have the 255's at the front?

No! The bigger tyres should be on the front as standard with staggered set up .

I can scarcely believe Black Circles are saying that the 255's should be on the rear? Such misinformation if so from them. That would be terrible for the handling balance.

Then you need to be having serious words . I can’t believe that they were incorrectly fitted at the factory . So that only leaves them being swapped by the dealer. Car maybe originally supplied from factory with standard wheels and dealer swapped out to staggered set up incorrectly? This seems very odd . Do get them swapped out , not sure how many miles you have on them , maybe check for uneven wear when off the vehicle.

Yes, does seem odd. I think it would have had the staggered set up from factory as the spec details on MyAudi does quote the correct upgraded wheels and not the standard wheels.

It's done about 2600 miles.

Yes . I just ordered some 235’s from KF and saw the same . I assume that when the manufacturer lists two sizes their website incorrectly assumes that the larger is a rear fitment .

Also as in one of my other posts you can’t trust tyre dealers web sites . I put in my reg , select Pirelli , select size .
235 35 19 . Gives no other option says Audi approved . I order . Get sent a model R01 Pirelli . Car came supplied with R02 . It’s same size tyre , same tread , but different shape sidewall .
My point being with a more specialised tyre or in our case staggered set up with larger fronts then the sites do not cater for us . As I found out !! Trust me the larger size goes on the front .

Anyone who owns the RS3 FL and indeed the PFL should know the fronts should be larger than the rear on the staggered set up.
This is common knowledge.
For a dealer or so called tyre specialist to fit them back to front is quite frankly incompetentence !!

As a general rule for safety, the higher grip tyre should always be on the rear to avoid spin out with sudden change of direction, particularly in the wet.

Useless fact. Pontiac Grand Prix was another 255-45-18 on the fronts .
225 on the rears .

Recently switched to 255 (from 235) on the front and I am very happy. There is a significant improvement when pushing the car around corners in the dry. I stayed with the 35 profile which meant switching to 18" wheels. The OEM staggered setup goes to a 30 profile tyre.

It is a mystery to me why a driver cannot notice a change when driving the staggered setup instead of the square. Perhaps drivers are getting caught up in the change of profile between OEM staggered and square and missing the benefit (better performance in corners) of the staggered setup.

Those are for a3 or s3.. Rs3 should take 20" exactly
