Manda's S5

Had the week off so been nice chance to catch up on car bits I had let pile up.

Finished the Spoiler, it is nice and solid, and a final test fit so it is ready to go on after the car is wrapped nearer August (errggg so long to wait!)
Used gel clear coat cured with a 60 second uv burst (yes it is what I do my manicures with )

Final test fit.
47606481321_c27e1b3515_c.jpg

Removed the rings as I had a very deep scratch where I accidently caught the dremmel on the car (Stupidly used the boot as a table at first).
Then machine polished for a good hour and half till that scratch and the other caused by the Carbon Fibres open edge during the multiple test fits, had all gone.

Got the old diffuser ripped off eventually, tried on my own with no luck, asked a body shop who refused, asked audi when the car had the fuel rails replaced by the recall, and they said 'they was too scared they may cause damage'.. boyfriend and his friend tried...
Then finally refusing the be beat the boyfriend and I had a good go and it finally came off! wtf why so difficult!

The new diffuser was not a direct fit, only one side of the clips lined up, the other side I had to saw the clips in half, then some clips was too thick s had to dremmel them, and then some parts of the fibre glass edge was too thick to fit in the recess, lots of dremmeling adjustments later and a good pair of helping hands from the other half, we got it on, drilled some holes in the new diffuser and they are not bolted to the car.
Super happy but fed up of dremmiling parts now :)

Additionally got around to my mid year oil swap, covered 5k and been patiently waiting to use my new larger extractor! yes sad i know.. genuinly excited to use it.

47650264421_955c092ddd_c.jpg

Did not like the mmi even though it updates immediately with oil level if you leave the bonnet open, so ordered a dipstick that fits this engine from Audi.

As I suspected it was about 200ml over so I just drained the extra off and still says max, but I am now a bit more trusting of the correct amount of oil being in :)
£12 from Audi, part number 06E115611H.

Had the fuel rail recall done by Audi, nothing exciting, took half a day and car was back.

And for no reason, a pic of the car cos for a day it was clean!

Looks fantabolous @Meemo and hats off to you for taking all the time to not only do the mods and oil change but also for the write-up . And then there are people like myself who have not been able to wash the car for the last 6 weeks

Shucks thanks guys :)
Nothing left to do now for a while. Just wait for the wrap in a few months, really excited for the new colour to be done soon... Mostly because I don't have to do it! Phew, and because I find the light grey really boring.

I have offered to help strip off the bumpers and badges on the day before I leave it with the wrapper, prob thinks I am odd now!

Haha no secret, I love green envy! But I am yet to find anyone else who does, seems to be marmite colour but I am a lover. I think I saw a few Audis at simply Audi today in Kelly green, so nice as well.
However I am pretty set on hexis elderberry purple currently.
There was another darker version of this kind of colour by another brand that I really wanted, but the brand I was told is renound for the glue breaking down very quickly and only really good for 2 years, so the hexis is my compromise :)

no real updates so just adding the wee tints I put on the fog lights recently to keep it going :) my old A4 got a stone hit one that cracked it, so figured I would be clever this time and put them on before they get damaged to protect them. plus looks nice to me. Only used 'light smoke' tint film.

Not my car and it isn't an audi... (sorry!) but have done some tints on the boyfriends supra, more with the mind it gives some protection to the lenses from UV and chips so it looks very subtle.
Also got the machine polisher and wet sand paper out on his headlight lenses whilst he had them open and resprayed/painted the chrome inside which has come up really nice actually. obligatory selfie :) pictures cos I am super proud how it turned out.

The car is looking great @Meemo I love the grill and splitter. Looking forward seeing the new wrap and your decision on the wheels. :)

Thank you @Point_Audi
me too, due to some delays I won't have had the car for 3 weeks eeep, he had finished a large section and he wasn't happy with an imperfection which he admitted was so minor it wouldn't of been an issue to most, but his OCD kicked in, and so he removed 3 metres of wrap started again (and had to order more material), ahaha bless him, but from that I know he takes allot of pride in the end product :) very excited to just have a car again and finally have it a colour that I like too.

In the mean time have made the most DIY bendy plate hooks so that I can easily pop the plate on and off rather than use a sticker plate. (Garden wire wapped in black electrical tape ...)
You are allowed to laugh but I made and tested it on my UK grille and it works really well and can't notice the black hooks as they run across the slats :p
Only temp until I find a better solution, potentially using my partners works 3d printer they are awaiting delivery of.

Thats a shame you still have to wait another 3 weeks, but at least you know it will be a fantastic job as the guy does seem to be a perfectionist and proud of his work which is great to hear. :icon thumright:

Love the plate idea @Meemo it reminds me of the removable plate you created in the past with the foam pieces for the honeycomb grill, I copied you that time and it was a great job. :)

First impressions, Jamie at vinyl one has done an incredible job, he really is top of the food chain for wrappers.
I would not hesitate to use again.

.. which brings me to my second impression which was one we both expected, the hexis brand is very orange peeley compared to 3m, I knew this in advance but I wanted this colour so badly it was a trade-off, and Jamie did a ceramic coat after to help diffuse, is only in the shade you see this, as in the sun it pops that insane colour you see below and looks smooth.

However I have already discussed with him coming bk in a year for something 3m, and wth his new printer he took delivery of this month, he says they can print any colour on 3m chrome which turns out metallic like factory, so we can make the perfect shade!

It is looking very good @Meemo however, more pics needed please. It does seem to have an orange peel but it is not too obvious. I believe you can tell because you knew it would be there.

Also, and hope you won't mind me asking; where did you get the diffuser from. A friend has recently bought an S5 (and therefore he is not a friend anymore ) and he is after one.

sadly in the shade it is more prominent, but the colour in the sun makes up for it :)

I got it from XenonzUK, however it wasn't an easy fit as the tabs didn't line up, had to saw them and do allot of dremmeling where it was too thick to fit on the car (page before shows it). Looks fab on although mine is still not fully on underneath as it would touch the exhaust, but you can't see that without ramps :)
I would recommend a body shop to fit if he gets it.. saying that though I asked my local and they said they wouldn't touch it and turned me away lmao bit mean

The second I got home, I tinted the headlights in light smoke and used some cut off to change the S badge on the grille to match.

In the shade it is a flat purple, I can't get over how much it changes in the light.

I an keeping my eye out for 20s at the moment.

I have only recently realised that I have a thing for silver rotors and therefore won't be able to able you with your decision making

I am now seriously thinking about changing my diamond cut rotors to RS4/5 Silver (believe it is hyper silver).

Agree with @JG51 AUD. Stunning as well as a very unique . Tbh, I wouldn't worry too much as I believe the wrap deserves to have the peel - a little bit of it.

Haha I hadn't thought this but now I love that idea! Just means a few months so I can put money aside for new wheels and tyres.

Thankyou, I am super self conscious about it, but I think Jamie will make me something special colour wise next year, but going to enjoy this colour for now :)

@Meemo, you need to be showing this off at AITP this year, it'll sit nice in between myself and @Macdoon :hubbahubba:

JG
Haha i haven't been to that one in an age, I think it is just the distance that put me off. Remind me where it is?
It really is time I went to an event and said hi in person to my Audi-sport family.

Looking forward to seeing your color choice for the wheels. :) Oh and I am liking the front lights tinted, that could be next for me, there is always something to be doing. :)

@Point_Audi @CHEZ
Thanks :)
I am actually a little embarrassed by the orange peel, it is more than I have ever seen in a wrap and is getting some comments in person.
LOVE the colour and the quality of the guy who wrapped it is insane good, to be clear I specifically chose the brand and wrap before I approached him and I did see it looked slightly more peeley in pictures, just was not prepared for how much though!..
But for now I think this is just a car for the internet LOL untill I can put the cash aside to get it re wrapped in a smoother brand but the same colour (by Jamie again as really impressed).

How it shows on the S in this picture, is exactly how it appears on the whole car texture wise in person.

this is the finish of the Hexis Gloss when it is not in direct light.. after a few days sleeping on it, and the odd comment including a friend who I asked their honest opinion.. and it was 'looks like it was painted on with a F****ng toothbrush'!
48167910422_9ac2f33b80_b.jpg

I am booking it back to be removed and choosing another colour from another brand, choices are from Avery or 3M.
Suggestions please are very welcome! Sadly there are not any colours that match this in the light, but I am too embarrassed by the peel to keep this one.
The wrapper has been fab and I really cannot stress it is in no way his fault as I chose the material and came to him with it as a specific request not expecting it to be like this when applied, plus his application is flawless, he totally gets it and is on my side in discussions with Hexis who have offered I chose another colour, however they will all be like this unless I chose satin.

Anyway Suggestions please :)

Well you know that I rate Kelly green and silver wheels lol.
I also like the baby blue almost Riviera blue that 3M produce off the shelf.
Totally different colours to what I think you are after @Meemo .
But that's just me.
You mentioned earlier getting a foil wrap printed to your spec, is this the route you will be going down?
I have seen a few wraps in rose gold etc which are a foil chrome effect, and I just think they look totally tacky.
Just my 2p worth.
I have an inkling you will be going down the purple route anyway!

Hey here's a thought, purple Velvet........

Jokes.

Good luck anyway and keep us all posted.

@CHEZ I have already come to terms that I cannot find a purple I will like, so am going the other way and looking at Avery Satin pearl blue, Avery Roaring Thunder and 3M deep space flip.
I suspect the cost of the chrome printing film will push me out of budget, it's bad enough I am paying again to get another colour so soon lol I asked for Purple super chrome from Hexis as replacement but is 3* as expensive

Manda, I'm gutted for you. Cant be an easy decision to remove it after waiting so long and its such a lovely colour too.
but if your not happy now then you never will be.

I concur with CHEZ though the deep space flip is stunning.

Good luck
