Hello,
it has been days for now how I have been searching for playing video on my MMI standard. Bought the AMI cable to USB (didn't get one when I bought the car). Using my thumb drive I can listen to mp3 music and everything is fine but when I try to watch video file it says that it is unreadable. Trying to convert many videos in many formats and still no luck. anyone has any clue?
Thank you

LOL...just find out that Standard version does not support any type of video files.

But it can be played video over Ami using :
AV adaptor cable 4F0.051.510.N
iPod adaptor cable plus 4F0.051.510.R (red head cable)

Ami connected device only, and a setup like this is needed if you want to use modern devices:

Yes, Thx @DJAlix , I know that cable and I do have Android but it would be the easiest way to have it on USB thumb drive and play a video over there but, it is what it is.
And by the way my navigation is MSTD...it is impossible to update it by myself right?

Well my reason for posting that solution is because your not having a usb in the armrest but having AMI suggests to me that your MMI unit is an MIB1 STD which is basically an Audi RMC basic media unit. You cannot play media from DVD, SD Card or AMi to USB cables, audio only. Navigation will be via SD card which although you can purchase updates yourself you would need to have someone like myself activate your purchase before you could use it.

Yes, it is basic with 2 SD card slots. Navigation is on SD card original 2014 Europe and want to upgrade it to 2019 of course. What are my options? I am not from England or even close to you guys. Croatia here. I am planing to go to my audi dealership but as far as I know it would cost me aprox. 300 euros and it is tooo much for only map update so I would like to have it a lot cheaper but don't know how.
Thank you

That’s the average price for updated maps I am afraid, nothing you can do about it unless you go for “new old stock”. A lot of dealers over stock on items like this and end up selling on eBay and alike at a discount. Won’t me 2019/2020 maps but you might get 16/17 maps for a good price. Remember, when buying from eBay etc you must by a card which comes complete with an unused activation document otherwise you are wasting you money.

You could do the above or you could look at the image I posted above, get the cables and get a video in motion activation. Why? This will allow you to mirror your device screen to your MMI, allowing you to mirror any apps including navigation from google, Wade, Tom Tom etc etc. Costs less than 50% of Audi maps update to do this :)

wow, now when I see it, I am not even thinking to go to dealership. Is there any chance that AMI converter can work with android phone or it even doesn't matter if it is android or ios...?

The solution I posted above is just an example, in this case iPhone. If you change what’s plugged in to the white box for a Samsung AV cable, as an example, then away you go with your android device, or.... use a fire stick / chrome cast / Mira cast device and stream / mirror wireless

Forgive me jumping in here, but I am searching the forums to see what I can do to activate VIM on my MMI and generally get more out of it... you comment regarding no USB in the arm rest indicating it's a basic MMI unit - I don't have a USB in the armrest either (can play DVDs when stationary via the DVD/CD player in glove box), which has annoyed me since getting the car. So... what options, if any, do I have to install a USB device into the armrest (linked to the MMI) and upgrading the MMI - what can be done and what will it give me??

Sorry for the broad questions, but I'm keen to understand this further and basically what you might be able to offer me!

Thanks!

If you don’t have any USB ports then you have MIB1 standard and cannot play video via dvd or SD Card. You will need a setup like posted above, connected to your Audi music interface port:

Ok, is there any upgrade/retro fit available to enable direct playing of devices through a USB socket?

OEM wise you would need to retrofit / change your glovebox media unit (MIB unit) to the MIB1 High or MIB2 High. Both would require coding, new screens and USB ports / cables. Existing controls can be used but should really be changed if MIB2 is your chosen route.

aftermarket wise you would be looking at installing a video interface or an Apple CarPlay box. Video interface will allow playback via usb, hdmi etc. Apple CarPlay will be the same but also have mirroring option and applecarplay / andriod auto.

Ok, thanks for that. Is this something that you are able to do? And if so, at what sort of price? And what does the MIB1/2 give me (other than direct play through USB) that the standard MIB unit doesn't. I'm just trying to work out if it's worth the investment.

Thanks.

please visit vagcarcoding.com and browse to my contact page in order to send an enquiry.

MIB2 would give you high res screen, Audi smartphone Interface and if a "High" unit the ability to play media from USB, DVD and / or SD card. MIB2 High would also give you an internal 40GB drive for both navigation data and media storage.

Great, thanks, I'll take a look at your site.
