Just read on another forum there’s a software update out for the S4/5 to fix the horrible lag which plagues the car.

Users experiences are in this forum somewhere, but possibly buried in another thread, however it seems to be generally accepted as a positive...

Asked about it when my car was in for service a few weeks back, dealers checked for me and denied all knowledge that an update existed for my S4 (2017 MY17)

I asked the same last week when in for a service and dealer said there wasn't an update for my 2017 (March) S5.... I bet there is!

Yes, I had this done on my B9 S4 by Cardiff Audi. I was getting issues with the gearbox being particularly sluggish when decelerating - meaning junctions were a nightmare. Completely fixed now.

Mine's due in for a service tomorrow, I've asked them to look into updating the MMI and checking if there's a gearbox update. If there is, I'll ask them for the details for you

Just my experience folks but it's worked for me in the past stating rather than asking, your better off stating "there is a hesitation/lag issue with gearbox, can you please investigate and rectify the issue, thank you." From past experience asking "if" there are updates, usually end with "not that I'm aware of".

Definitely agree, this is what I told them over the phone. When the driver came to collect my car (I assume he was a technician), he did not seem surprised by my mention of the gearbox lagging at all. He also mentioned there's an update for the front camera which they'll perform, which I already knew about but forgot to mention.

I should have my car back around 4pm today, so I will update whether or not they performed the gearbox update.

Agreed. Similar to the fact that the standard dealer answer to "is this a known fault?" is "no, your car is the first we've seen with that fault."

Just got a call from Audi. They're claiming that no gearbox update is available nor is there an MMI update.

I'm on MMI version 0917 which has the POI bug. In front of my face I have version 0942 which I'm able to just flash myself if needs be.

Audi is stating that there isn't an MMI update available, and 0917 is the latest which is a blatant lie. I've pushed to tell them that there's a newer version available, people have had it installed to rectify the issue and that I can just do it myself if needs be. The person I was talking to on the phone said that she'll speak to the technician to see if he can look into if further and get back to me.

Got a feeling I'll have to just flash the firmware myself, but gearbox software seems to be a no go. I'm not going to push further on the gear box update as I drive in Sport majority of the time anyway.

How are you going to flash the MMI firmware yourself, please could you explain the procedure?

Also, thought it was quite funny. Audi said that the POI issue was just me not selecting them all in the nav settings. I had to explain that those were the google supplied POIs, not the ones that I (can't) upload myself..

Here you go, it's a bit "hacky": https://www.a5oc.com/threads/mmi-3g...2-and-firmware-updates-currently-2017.113737/

Pretty sure there's actually a more updated thread on another website but I've lost the link.
Thanks for this, much appreciated, as IT technician I am happy to follow the procedure myself however, and I might be being daft, in the instructions the pictures of the hardware don't appear to be representative of mine, but an earlier model.

When you perform this yourself I would like to see some picture of the A4 B9 MMI system, just to be sure I don't brick it.
If you're able to do this of course...

Sure! No problem.

If I recall correctly, the other thread I mentioned had some replies from people with B9s who had completed the update. If Audi don't budge I'll take a look at doing it either tonight or tomorrow and taking some pics along the way.

Sorry for the delay chaps, been away on holiday.

The gearbox software was updated by Cardiff Audi’s master technician. I mentioned the sluggishness and the reluctance to change down when slowing towards junctions, he seemed to know exactly what the problem was and sorted it.

I wonder if a VCDS or odbeleven scan will show what version of software is on your update gearbox... as they keep saying there isn't an update for my car..

I found this thread after having the same issues. I read on another forum about a b9 S4 that had issues shifting from 1-2 and 2-1 and it turned out he was missing a quart of transmission oil. Just something additional to ask about for anyone bringing their car in. It would be interesting if they used the "gearbox software update" to cover this up.

I'm bringing my b9 s4 in next week and i'll report back my findings on this one.

I would have thought that when this update was applied it should appear within the owners MyAudi digital service schedule such as mine below?
