Heard a knocking noise the other week so phoned audi assist. Sent out a technician and recommended taking it to audi. Dealer phoned the other day saying there’s something loose in the gearbox and that it will need a new one.

Bit poor in my opinion for a car less than two years old.

I should add that I had been experiencing a hard clunk sometimes when changing from first to second in manual mode which I would definitely say is not normal. Took it to another dealer months ago to get it investigated and the master technician said “it’s a characteristic of the s-tropic gearbox”... coincidence that I now need a new gearbox?

Mine (2015 rs3) some times changes gear with a jolt and bang from 1st to 2nd in manual when I hammer it.

is this just after you turn the car on? even when mine was warmed up and i left it for 5 minutes and came back, the first gear change when pushing it was always clunky

At least it’s under warranty.
Mine is pretty smooth even when pulling hard from lights or roundabouts including redline shifts. Well as smooth as hard driving gets.
1st and 2nd has boost limiters so should be less clunky anyway.
Occasionally the box goes on a hissy fit and can’t decide what gear to use that’s my biggest gripe with it. It was the same with my last 2 stronics.

Yeah it was warm. It was probably beyond redline when I’d changed gear, to be fair.

There’s Rev limiter and gearbox torque limiters to stop you breaking the car so doubt it’s anything you’ve done to break it. If it was then there’s a design flaw somewhere.
Has your car/gearbox been remapped?
