So this afternoon I needed to turn down my side of the car because the missus has hers on ****** hot all of the time and I noticed that I can no longer change the ventilation speed of the drivers side.

This is what I am used to seeing (taken from a post on here). Note the fan speed icon position.

What I see now is just the one fan icon on the passenger side, not the middle icon.

I now have a grayed out option to change the drivers side.

And when I select it to change the speed I get the above error on the main MMI screen.

I've messed with the sync settings, looked into the MMI settings and have found nothing relating to it. I have been able to separate the blower speeds in the past so I have no idea why this has suddenly happened!

What's the red dot on the drivers side? It's not there in the pictures where the fan is working...

Ah, I see, apologies. You have the seat ventilation on though? What happens if you turn this off...

I've never really mucked about with this, I usually just leave it on auto and adjust the temperature individually when I have a passenger, or sync it when I'm alone.

I will try to replicate what you've done and see what happens.

Reading the manual and page 93 states that "if you activate the A/C function, cooling mode will be regulated automatically". Maybe because A/C is on, you cannot manually change the fan speed? I must admit, the instructions are quite limited in their content in this area.

I've tried this in manual also but had no luck. Seems to be a bug more than a configuration problem looking at it. There's no reason why the fan icon position would change like that. I also have an option for using an Ionizer which my car didn't have before and certainly doesn't have fitted.

have you tried doing a full MMI reset? Think you do it by prssing and holding the volume control untill the MMI system does a reboot ((it is described in the manual). You should either have 1 fan symbol in the centre if youa re syncing left and right or 2 if not. What you have is definitely an indication of the software being confused

You need to check for faults in the system. A sensor or flap that was playing up may be the issue.

On this subject, i only have the single fan setting function in the middle, have not been able to get the option of having two columns for the fan speed for either side, am i missing something?

Having played with my car I realise that I too can only adjust the fan for both sides simultaneously not individually, despite my earlier post. Wonder if that option comes as part of the 4 zone option and the OPs car has somehow decided it has the 4 zone sysstem in error in much the same way as the DIS on my car decides from time to time that have the traffic sign recognition system, albeit that it says it is not available. As I said previously a full MMI reboot may sort it out

So after a bit of research and messing with it last night I can confirm that my car has somehow loaded the wrong configuration or has a corrupt config file. Having two fan control toggles and the addition of an Ionizer would suggest so as my car does not have this fitted.

A hard reset and default settings on the MMI have made no difference whatsoever so it looks like i'm going to have to call the local dealership and book it in as well as have them look into a few rattles and a blown speaker.

My car has come out in sympathy!. Exactly the same problem, with the added issue that the Recirclation button is greyed out and if you press it it says turn on the ignition to configure this setting which is odd give the engine is running at the time. Did you go to the dealer? Would be good to know what they said before I go myself. Given the problems I (and others) have had with the assist systems and now this, there is clearly a long way to go with software development on these cars (and almost certainly not just Audi) before we can trust them enough to have driverless cars

I'm still waiting to go to the dealer (booked in for next week). It seems that we both have very similar problems! It hasn't bothered me as much as it still does function although not as intended however since booking it in my light switch has developed a fault also. If you were to hold your hand over the light button you get a notification in the cluster displaying what light setting you are currently on and then by pressing the light button it changes the lights from auto etc. Mine currently spams what light setting the car is set to 24/7 as if someone had their hand on the auto light button!

Got in the car tonight and it had reverted to “normal”. Will see what happens over then next few days

Came across this post, I bought a 2018 a6 c8 in December and climate control functions have been working fine until last week when I had the exact same issue as you have been describing with the fan speed buttons greyed out on driver side, just wondering did you get yours sorted out as I am looking to know what I need to do to sort mine? Thanks.
