Extreme Parking

Cheshire Oaks at 9am this morning, I was only nipping into one shop...but even before the rush you can't be too careful! :);)

If I would have being staying longer, I would have got right up to the fence on the passengers side :)

Just had a few days in sunny Devon staying with friends. Went shopping in Waitrose Okehampton, main car park two thirds full at least, my friend said keep to the left, pass the main entrance, over the bridge hidden by the trees, and there it was a 'secret' car park. Had it almost to myself. Apparently even locals miss it. So tip for anyone holidaying that way but keep it to yourselves. :sunglasses:

Surely this spot would be much more safe reversing in? Why risk some numpty still giving you minimal door opening space!!!

^^ normal French parking where I live............anywhere is fair game.
A french driver would still squeeze into the 80% of the gap you left either side :)

Edited to say a few weeks back a Smart car had parked in the supermarket trolley return covered area to be closer to the shop!

If it hasn't got to be an Audi then here's wifey old Fiesta in Devizes Coop.

Okay, my two contributions to this thread. The parallel spot was in a really busy car park with about 500 cars and lots of turnover. The other, more obnoxious one in which I took up two spots was in a commercial lot at work. Management prohibits taking more than one spot, but as I park as far away from the door as possible - they have let it slide.

Yeah and even the Hummer has more space than we do in the UK!

I found out this evening that I've got some scratches and paint has come off behind my rear left wheel, on the crease by the arch, going down to the bumper....thanks whoever did that somehow. . Wherever it happened :( off to the bodyshop in the morning to see how much will cost to tidy it up..

I found a decent sized space in London, it was even in it’s own little Cul De Sac
I came back to find her accompanied by 2 S3’s as well

Extreme parking, Menorca-style :sunglasses: Just because it’s a rental, doesn’t mean standards have to slip....

Haha - like I said, just because it’s a rental...

I find it relaxing, and the method used was a bit of fun to make the guys over on the detailing forum chuckle :whistle2:
Ha ha yes - I also find cleaning and polishing very relaxing! Family were a bit perturbed when I took shampoo and polish to the S of France with the Scooby !!!!!

So I started this thread what seems like way back. Still glad to know that there are loads of us OCD about parking.

This morning at Waitrose (went early to avoid the rush as still parked in the secondary car park in the furthest space) -

Funny thing was that when I got back to the car, a guy came over and said to me not not think he was odd but I had 1 of the 2 best spaces in the car park and he was going to move his car into my space after I left. Man after my own heart :joycat:

I have an S3 8P and a mk 4 GTi and so popped in from the S3 8P forum. Very pleased to read this thread as I have been worrying about parking for about 21 years since when I first bought the GTi. I always look for the best spot to park and have been known to drive away if there is nothing that looks safe enough.
My wife used to be tolerant but not any longer and major rows occur when I wont park in the most convenient place.
About 15 years ago I was caught out. I went to the motorcycle museum near Birmingham and parked the GTi in the middle of a totally deserted car park. When I got back it was still deserted but some "nice person" had broken in and stolen stuff. As the car park was not near the main building there were no security cameras. It took the body shop 3 attempts to get the paint colour correct on the door handle.
It did not change my habits and so like most of you, I know the safe sports in most local car parks and wherever we venture - sad really!!

So I need to update my “checklist”:

- look for corner spots or end of rows with high visibility or next to walls/bollards
- check neighbouring cars for child seats. If present, move!
- avoid spots next to 3 door cars with huge doors
- avoid spots next to “station cars”
- avoid spots next to works vans.
- ensure CCTV coverage where possible
- Park next to a well detailed Audi if possible (or an @X3man BMW or similar )
- don’t park under lime trees or trees full of pigeons

It’s quite hard this extreme parking business!! Lol

Methinks must keep a couple of traffic cones in the boot.

lol, not a bad idea, though would not leave much room in boot for the shopping!

The area was prepped off ready for re-painting the carpark pillars. See the nice refreshed, clean and white paintwork above..

Well gone before the paint drippers arrived.

Certainly was @S32B, but the principles of extreme parking must continue. Was full when we came back,as I'm sure you can imagine.

Not in my S3 anymore but this thread still makes me feel better about my parking, took no risks in my S5 when I went to Meadowhall yesterday afternoon, various funny looks walking past people in their cars on the long walk to the entrance :tearsofjoy:

:friendly wink: & double those if you are tight like me and have to do that extreme parking walk of shame twice to get your £ deposit on your trolley back.

Funny thing is I got about halfway to the entrance and as I was putting the key in my pocket I realised I’d left my phone in the armrest so had to run back for that, doesn’t bother me though I’d rather have some funny looks than get my car dinged :icon thumright:

Mothercare outlet now closed down but the car seat fitting bay spaces are still up for grabs.

Another prime spot added to my regular haunts.
