Rs3 valve control programming?

Seriously considering pulling the trigger on one of these, although it's coming out at around £390 delivered so it aint exactly cheap..

I do a majority of my driving in Individual mode, which I've basically set to dynamic mode apart from the mag ride suspension which is set to standard.

Would this controller recognise the individual mode is set to sporty on startup, and therefore have the valves open? Does it eliminate the 'bag o nails' rattle on startup in any mode?

Thanks in advance!

All the answers are in this very thread...........:whistle2:

Jesus you managed to answer before I'd edited to comment about the price lol.. Skills!

Opening and closing works without the engine running I would assume?

Yep ignition on but don't start and double tap the ESC button you'll hear the flaps open.

Haven't read anything about individual mode and whether the controller detects the exhaust settings...

Although the ESC twice could sort that if not :thumbs up:

Mines always set to open.

Even if selecting Individual they are open.

Regarding the price, you gotta think resale value too, it’s always something you can sell on when the time comes.

In dynamic or individual with engine/gearbox set to dynamic the controller will be open all the time just like dynamic.

They are closed on every start up regardless, uncontrollable when the car is stock.

If you leave in comfort they stay closed in every gear until 4000rpm.

If you put the car in dynamic they will open when idle (regardless of dynamic will not be open when you turn the key or on a cold start). They close the instant you pull off and through most of 1st gear, from there on they open after say 2500rpm in each gear.

I’m sorry I think you’re wrong as I thought the same thing but after then having two new valves fitting the shop plugged it in to the computer as they still weren’t shutting and took it for a spin and the computer had them open in comfort mode on startup and first gear then closed them in second gear until it hit higher revs so I wasted my money basically.

@Sn00ten sounds like you literally have all the concerns I *had*

the install is less complicated than it looks (the hardest bit was getting the trim panel back on when I was desperate to test it!)

it works as suggested and completely removes the 'bag of nails' on startup, I have my car on individual the majority of the time for round town driving with everything on dynamic except engine (all the noise and no go :))

as suggested regardless of of what drive select selected it can be overridden by pressing TC off then back on

it keeps its settings on startup (feels weird not pressing drive select 5 times like I have done for the past 6 months)

module very easy to disable completely (stealth mode) via pressing auto start / stop for 5 seconds. (easy way to test is press TC off / on twice and notice you WONT hear the click of the valves)

noise wise, its great! don't get me wrong it won't instantly sound like a F1 car, but the burbles at low low revs are intoxicating , but best of all the 'bag of nails are gone'

for me it adds to the experience of owning this car, without the embarrassing noise on cold start of my 6 month old 50k+ Audi!

I bought mine for 389 euros + 15 euro shipping + some sort of fee for using PayPal .. the total was 411.39 euros which at the time it came out of my bank account was £367.78 it took about 2 working days to come (ordered on the Saturday of a bank holiday arrived Wednesday)

honestly worth every penny as 'smile per mile' tax it will pay for itself tenfold!
seriously DO IT! , if / when you sell the car you will get your money back on the module as 'used' they go for similar money without the hassle of buying from Europe!

You definitely have an issue then, Audi don’t put the comfort mode there to be noisy...

Ask a dealer how it’s meant to be, closed in comfort and ALWAYS closed when started.

would it interfere with Ghost if you have that installed as both are canbus devices?

Just took the plunge and ordered one :thumbs up: PayPal were trying to charge me another £18 or so for them to do the currency exchange, cheeky bas*****!

Used Mastercard which has a better exchange rate anyway, and won't charge me a fee. Cost £396 all in.

I too was wondering about the ghost immobiliser as I have one, so good to know it doesn't affect it.

Anyone know the difference between these two? I have already got the ones where they don’t delete the code but apparently it can lose power coz of the fault codes where as the code delete stops this?

One goes in the plug the other goes in the socket.
Have got a virtually new set in the Garage of these. Used once then taken them off.

Av been running my car with only the non coded ones! Av just bought the delete code plugs off them now , I always get a valve a and b warning on vcds when plugged in and apparently it can lose power! Coz the engine think it’s in danger what av heard

Seen it on a dyno

A friend had these and the car was pulling back up the Rev range, they couldn’t understand why until re-connecting the plugs and normal service was resumed.

So these delete terminator code plugs will do the job? Maybe that’s why my car seems to be misfire too

As I said took mine off.

If it registers a fault code it’ll not be a happy car.

Best to purchase an Active valve controller, no fault codes and you control the valves from the car ESP button.

Exhaust pressure valve a and b come up , hopefully these plug will delete them

AVC fitted yesterday afternoon and I'm liking it! Hardest part for me was getting all the plugs stowed away behind the piece of trim in the passenger foot-well - there really isn't all that much space! As zippster said above - it's so nice not having to cycle through the mode select to open the valves up, and even nicer not to have the god awful rattle upon startup... That's worth the money alone in my book!

I can also confirm it works perfectly fine with Ghost immobiliser.

Fully recommended

yes, they work, there are no codes, and car makes full power with them in use.

Yours may have not been the right ones, there is a resistor which is in a different place on those plugs, you have to make sure its the right version or they do not work. You should hit up where you bought them from for an exchange.

I can confirm they 100% work perfect.

If you are always using Dynamic mode and dont really like the sound with valves closed these are a no brainer, way cheaper than a needlessly complicated controller.

Erm they were exactly the right ones.

I never said I had an issue with them did I ?

I just didn’t like them because I had no control over the valves hence the Cete controller was bought and fitted.

And yes a friend fitted exactly the same ones to his car and on the Dyno it plotted a drop off in power with them fitted.
They were removed and the power came back on the 2nd Run.

Personally I can’t believe anyone would buy such an expensive car and put some cheap plugs in to have the valves open all the time.
The valve controller is an addition to the car giving you full control of the factory fitted system.
Quiet cold starts, as quiet or as loud as you like when you like.
If I didn’t have control of the exhaust flaps on my car and they were open 100% of the time I doubt I’d last a day!

Exactly Kev!

They lasted a day on mine.
Terrible.

I remember when I had my Golf R which sounds extremely quiet compared to the RS3. Everyone at the time was coding the flaps open.
I tried it and lasted about half an hour!

Same here
The noise was ear splitting especially with the BCS pipe

I'm more than happy with my AVC and, as Marshy says, why buy a £50k car if you're not prepared to spend £400 on a unit that gives you the best of both worlds... Plus the resale value of the controller ultimately doesn't make it that much more expensive in the long run.

After hearing the valves fully open on a cold start by the way, I don't think my neighbours would appreciate it at 05:50 every morning when I leave for work lol.

Yeah then your mate had the ones with the incorrect resistor for his car, which is my point. These do NOT limit power when the right ones are used.

This is my dyno sheet. very normal curve. When the plugs are wrong, the curve takes a **** over 5k.

As I said previously if these are fitted and the car logs a flap fault code it’s not a happy car.......

Don’t forget that some owners will fit these incorrectly in that the car canbus is still live, the car throws a code and they don’t have VCDS or the like to clear the code, the car reigns in power when it sees the code.

The fact still remains these delete plugs are rubbish.

The car will not throw a code if,

a. The correct plugs are used.

b. They are fitted properly.

Your wording makes it seem like it's a given that there will be a fault code and you are wrong if that is what you are saying, that's what I am trying to clarify here. The plugs do not guarantee a fault.

And they are NOT rubbish, they do exactly what they say they do on the box, how does that make them rubbish? Do they promise any other features? You just didn't like the extra sound for some reason. You bought an RS3 and you want it quiet? You would have to be kinda in a minority there.

No I don’t want it quiet.

It’s why I bought the Active valve controller.

The VW international blanking plugs are rubbish.

If the plugs are undone whilst the canbus is live a fault code is generated.

I tested this theory on my own car and the fault code didn’t go away just because I inserted £60 worth of resister plugs into it.

VCDS cleared it not the plugs.

You love them I get that, fair enough.

I don’t, they don’t offer control over the flaps, yes I understand they never offer it.
The Cete valve controller does and I like it for that.

I’ve just fitted a Cete active valve control and I’m really liking having the option of the engine sounding either quieter or noisier depending on the time of day etc. I’m just concerned that 4000 rpm is a little late to open the valves in comfort mode on a stage 3 tuned car. I know I can, and will, just open them if I’m giving it a blast, but just wondered what any one else thought as to whether it could cause any damage to the uprated turbo when opening it up if the valves are still closed?

The blanking plugs from vw international worked for me , I had unplugged them without this and always got the control valve a and b come up on a diagnostic so I bought the Terminators from vw international plugged them in deleted the code and it hasn’t come back on since

Could someone who has purchased an AVC recently confirm what they are paying for them, as I have been on the CETE German website and the CETE AVC is €429 plus €68.50 VAT and €15.00 Postage, total price is €512.50 or £456.04 sterling. Is this the going rate or is there another supplier here in the U.K.
