Have you heard the S4/S5 rumour...

And now the reveal!

Really not a fan of the exterior changes up front at all! Think it looks like a Ford Focus or something.

Interior is basically the same but with some different VC graphics and a central touch screen. Wouldn’t be enough for me to feel like I’m missing out on anything.

Wow looks good, not sure about the air vents either side of the grille though.
Is it just me or do they look a bit odd, the way theres a big vent with a smaller one inside it? It's more noticeable on the S4.

Rumour is that the RS4 won't start up again eg no face-lift for the RS.

TX.

I think it looks overdone IMO. Maybe it's just the colour and silver accents. But the A1 style bonnet does not suit the A4. Beginning of the end of this car. Anyway. Glad to finally see it in the flesh for this thread.

Looks like after calling the S4/S5 diesel totally wrong, I was right about the interior changes on the facelift. Just wouldn’t make sense for them to redo the cabin like the A6 on a mid-life refresh.

Can’t see from the first vid but is the physical knob still there or is it touch screen only?

EDIT: Looks like it. Big mistake on Audi’s part. New 3 series is the better car for me on looks and layout.

New A4 is touch screen only, which I think is a mistake. 3 series is nice but BMW don’t yet support Android Auto - only Apple CarPlay - and they expect you to pay an annual subscription after 3 years to keep that functionality! I refuse to pay the Apple tax, so until they sort that and support Android, can’t even consider them.

Will be interesting to see what that trim lines are and what technology is now standard and not an option. Did feel the A4 was falling behind there. But equally I do feel while new design is nice, it doesn’t sound like I’m missing too much.

New engine line up is interesting... with 136, 161 and 187bhp 2.0l diesels now (30, 35, 40). I presume that’s how they’ll keep the starting price low, but we’ll probably be paying a fair bit more spec for spec I bet...

Audi and other manufacturers will start charging subscriptions. Audi just haven’t got their act together on this front yet

Audi do/will charge subscriptions for Google Earth, traffic etc.

The Android Auto and Carplay functions come with the vehicle and keep working regardless. BMW want you to pay just to keep access to features! They are unique in that respect and I think will remain so.

The video above talks about all cars coming with the full infotainment, but then subscriptions to grant access to functionality. This has been talked about for a long time and will become more common. So features/functionality will be turned on based on what subscription. Anyway, all hearsay for now, but it is common knowledge they are all moving this way.

Yeah I agree on the styling being overdone, new lights are nice but those fog surrounds look awful, bit better in gloss black but still!!

Leaning more towards a move away from the S4 next year now and will just continue to enjoy the B9.

Still don’t want to give BMW my money but options are looking more like the new 340i Tourer unless I can consider the RS3 (downgrade with interior!) and finally scratch that 5 cylinder itch.

Still plenty of good petrol cars out there and look forward to driving a few to see what the next whip will be.

I was tempted to get another S4, but not now. so options for the next car are a used C7.5 S6 Avant or a brand new Volvo XC60 polestar engineered. Gut says it will be a volvo as finding the right spec S6 is going to be very hard as only 4 for sale in the UK atm and can see current owners keeping them rather then trading in for the new s6 diesel...

Yes I think that one dates from last year when Autobild first suggested the fl and produced renders...

Fair enough, apologies chaps, thought they were quite “reputable” and as it was a new post thought they were on the money. But have heard from a few dealers etc that RS’s were coming later this year. I am sure like with the RS3 they will want to flop a few of the FL ones before any new models in 2021+

I think they've tried to stick to a 6cy for the S4/5 rather than drop to a four-pot hybrid. What I sense they are trying to do is differentiate between models as they add more and more of them. Plus the reality is that anything bigger than a four-pot is going to be short lived with the legislation and pressure on OEMs these days. It sucks, but its the world we live in now.
We think this is bad as petrolheads. Just wait for automation and EVs being the norm. No personal satisfaction in your own car any longer, just a place to sit until you get to your destination!

So the new s7 tdi is up on auditographys yt channel

It sounds pretty good for a diesel (similar to the old sq5) and is doing 0 60 in less than the quoted 5.1 at 4.8 seconds.

The mid range acceleration looks really strong also.

I for one can't wait to upgrade to it in August 2020 when my a4 goes back!

Will have to brace my self for the monthlies though :§

Still has turbo lag apparently...

Didn't hear no mention of it? Very comparable to my a4 with the performance/economy combo

Could imagine even better use of both with a tune on it.

Near 400bhp 800nm with very respectable economy

The new S6 has the RS4/5 petrol engine, fitted with mild-hybrid, so hope yet.

Trivia - Audi announced 20 new models to be announced in '19, including 7 brand spanking (not produced before) new on ******** stilts.

And in some of the road tests it is stated the gearboxes in the new S6/7 still have similar 'foibles' to the previous versions...
