DTUK TCU+ gearbox flash review

Arguing with antipodean pedants who like to Google and trawl through legislation for other world territories is not a constructive use of my time. Especially when said forumite seems not to be able to grasp the nuances of the subject at hand in real world terms. I'm tempted to try and explain to you what constitutes a "qualified person" and refer you post #234 to answer your earlier question where you made the correlation of self-installed consumables and his diff.

...but I can't be bothered, so if you feel the need to claim some sort of victory in your latest battle of wits with strangers on the internet, I'm happy to give it you. Live long and prosper my friend.

Pure genius

I love learning, no matter where in the world. So fire away - or not.

So long story short - Dealers can see the flash of the gearbox parameters using standard tools?

wow, really. Any thoughts @ABYSS ?
I can’t see any evidence to suggest anything can be seen by the dealer, so my thoughts are as always..

Without proof it’s all hearsay :) and something with a keyboard and too much time on their hands

After removing the Tune Box & Pedal Box, SMI77 @ Audi today for 30K service.
No mention on the Service Report or by the Service Advisor about the trilogy.

Talk about the saying, one doesn't miss something until its gone. Driving to the dealer was a real disappointment. They will return, incl. a tranny reboot.

Courtesy car was an A3 sedan. Just say we were v-e-r-y glad to get ours back.
Noticed on the A3, above the doors (rears at least) there appeared to be a drain plug in the roof rail. Does the roof in an A3 ship water?

Be mindful that this is from a distant, but f-a-r, f-a-r better outpost.

I'm pretty confident the TCU settings are slowly reverting back to the factory parameters after a few weeks on my S4. Car is in for warranty repair on the seemingly common thermostat fault next week. Diagnostics machine didn't flag anything on the transmission side.

What makes you think that, there is a degree of 'adaptation' to the driving conditions that can take place, thus I would have thought refreshing with the dongle would clear the TCU...

This is my point, the gear changes become gradually worse over time until they feel the same as before. Repeatingly flashing, idling and bombing around in the car to preserve the effect isn't my idea of fun.

Can't say I have noticed this myself though, seems the same as it was when I first performed the flash...

It’s more likely that it’s become the norm and so you don’t notice it any more.

I have to admit that I think the settings do adapt back closer to stock as the shifts on mine because increasingly harsh at the higher settings of the DTUK box. The altered shift points with the transmission in 'S' mode stayed though and made it nicer to drive when using that setting. A few minutes once a month resetting it did the job no worries.

Sorry to revive a “Dead Thread” but wanted to share some info. I was doing some research into these tools since I was curious that’s there’s not really an OOB solution for the TR-80 transmission. I was really wanting to hope that these boxes worked as implied.

It appeared that these devices are made by one company and rebadged to the dealer who wants to sell them.

In this case you’ll find that DTUK, JF Automotive, and TMC (all UK companies) sell this device, the unit and “security hologram” look exactly the same with the exception of the logo. And on the three websites you’ll notice that the drop downs for the variants of Audis is pretty similar.

I found it odd no one wanted to share how this device actually worked and how it was undesirable and no one who read back the transmission found any changes.

This led me to believe that all this device does is reset the adaptation, which can be performed though VCDS/OBD11 or even with a manual procedure, and a TCM adaption reset would give you improvements.

I reached out to JF Automotive, who I appreciate for their honesty here, I asked them does this device actually change the shift map, or just perform a reset, they confirmed it was a adaptation reset.

I’m sorry to say you’re paying £300+ for a device that does one thing that could be performed for either free or through a $100 OBD11. While the adverts for this product didn’t necessarily lie in terms of what the product performs, they sure implied it did a lot more.
