Guidance needed for machine polishing...

So after doing some research, tips from forum members and YouTube videos I think I’ve finally settled on what products I may need but if someone could confirm? I’m planning on purchasing the following products,

DAS 6 Pro DA polisher
Chemical Guys Hex Logic Orange Medium Cutting Pad (5.5 inch) to apply the scholl polish
Scholl S20 Black or Scholl S30+
Chemical Guys Hex Logic Black Finishing Pad (5.5 inch) to apply a sealant I’ve already bought

Will the 5.5 inch Chemical Guys pads fit on the 5 inch backing plate which is supplied with the polisher?
Is the Orange Medium Cutting Pad the right Pad for the scholl products?



The new car is Navarra Blue and noticed some very minor swirls when I picked the car up so I want to get on top of things straight away. My usual clean is rinse, snow foam (let sit for 2-3 mins), rinse, two bucket wash with car shampoo, rinse, wash wheels and rinse. I’d then usually dry the car and apply a spray wax.

I’ve got some clay bar, iron and fallout remover and tar and glue remover which I’d obviously use to decontaminate the bodywork before polishing. Are the products previously mentioned adequate to remove light swirl marks and then apply some protection. I’m thinking of trying it on my mums Mythos Black TT beforehand as it’s a smaller car and also 2 years older so may have better results?

If it's only minor swirl marks I'd go with Hex Logic Green pads , the S20 should be just fine . The orange pads are for heavier defects / polishing. Have you brought some good quality micro fibre cloths ? 600 GSM or similar should be good for buffing off the polish .

May also want to get some IPA Panel wipe to clean the panels off before applying sealant / wax

3 Green Hex Logic pads = full car correction you'll need 3 pads best divide the pads by the amount panels, reason pads will last longer less you'll knacker them, clean pads with a brush after every pass
I recommend = Sonax perfect finish use over the full car
Menzerna 3800 = maintenance polishing whenever you fancy it

Washing the car today and noticed someone has dinked my front passenger door below the wing mirror. Looks like someone’s hit it with their door, not that noticeable but it is deep. It’s about 3mm. Hopefully by polishing it might mask it a little

The green pads for definite and you should be fine with 250ml of polish . You'll have some left over if anything.

Not so sure about that 3mm scratch though . See how it looks post polish. If it's still really bad do a search for "Doctor Coloyrchip" planning on using it myself soon

@jassyo06 this is the thread recommended previously to which a based most of my stuff off of. Amazing the amount of info and detail that the guy goes into to explain everything.

@Bristle Hound I now know what pads go with what backing plates after giving it another read so thank you. Hopefully get started in the next couple weeks and get some results posted on here

Can totally relate to this. Recently had a new wing and bumper because some Tard backed into my A3 and simply ******** off.

Stick around mate , lots of knowledge from may people here at the forum. I've learned loads and no doubt you will also .

250 ml is plenty to do the whole car, green pads defo on new paint, backing plate surface size is always smaller than the surface of the pad, ie Hex Logic Quantum pads are slightly cone shaped, remember it's the quantum Hex Logic pads you need as they have less wobble on the DA = more control easier to handle

Just ordered the DAS 6 Pro, sonax perfect finish, Menzerna 3800, Black hex pad and green hex pads. Also got a bottle of IPA coming to wipe down afterwards. Helpfully going to get round to giving the car a good polish in the next couple weeks. Probably after my exams. Thanks again for all the help guys and I’ll post pics once it’s done

Lol...it's addictive aint it...hard graft though.........plus the fact the more time you spend with with the machine and compounds.........the better the results you'll achieve mate...........as l have always said machine polishing aint rocket science.....finding the right products is half the battle....the rest is down to sheer determination

Very nice finish mate, how many passes did you need to do to correct swirl marks? My panther black (as you can imagine being black) is covered in swirls and also was it easy to use the polisher? I just havnt grown the b*****ks to get my das pro out the bag yet haha

I was really apprehensive about doing it too but honestly just go for it, really easy. On most panels I just did 3-4 passes and found that was enough. I had a light scratch on my drivers door so went over that two times more at a higher speed.

Think it’s better to maintain and sort these things early on, rather than let them get bad and have to use products which will take more cut. And make sure you add some protection once you’re done, whether it be wax, sealant, etc, after all that work. It probably took me about 2-3 hours just to polish and then apply a sealant. Definitely be worth using a clay bar on the car, particularly if it's going to be it's first machine polish . Bilt Hamber Clay bar is a tenner , money well spent and better finish in the end .

Cheers buddy, ill do a full decontamination I always do, will be snowfoam, iron/fallout remover, 2bucket wash, Clay bar, then ipa wipedown as I go along! Agreed though clay bar is a 100% must have!

It's really surprising even after doing decon how many contaminants the clay picks up. Big fan of clay bar nowadays

Think the trick is to get a decent clay bar, ive not tried Bilt Hamber clay but I’m going to buy that next time ive used the meguiars clay bar which I though was very good and the autoglym Clay bar I preferred the megs one, afew friends have bought some cheapos from eBay and had mixed results hence why I have just bought the “branded” stuff don’t fancy buying a cheap clay bar and it grinding s**t down my paintwork!

@jassyo06 gave me a very good tip for claying the car . Get an empty spray bottle and dilute a very small amount of fairy liquid with tap water . Use the spray as lubricant while your claying . Works a treat and also helps remove previous coatings while you're at it.

I know some here frown upon FL but it really did work well for me and excellent as clay lube

Thanks mate, and yes very good tip too I’ve also been recommended this by afew people over on detailing world but a lot of backlash from it too but each to there own I say!
