My 'used approved' 1 year warranty comes to an end next month, whatever that was worth, and I'm getting the upgrade itch..

My local mechanic offers Revo products and I'm considering Stage 1. I'm no expert so would appreciate any advice here. Any of you guys Revo owners/users? Are there any hardware recommendations to go with stage 1 or is that only necessary at stage 2 and upwards?
Here for example stage 1 appears to be paired with their carbon series intake kit, is this absolutely essential?
https://www.evo.co.uk/audi/s3-sport...as-370bhp-ruined-the-audi-s-refined-character

Any issues to look out for or other 'must have' upgrades? Tempted to get the power valve res delete at the same time..

Thanks in advance

Haha, well I did consider it but there isn't much that I would consider switching to, at least not what I can afford right now, so getting a little more out of this might be the cheaper more 'sensible' option.

An M2 Competition would probably do it, but that thing ain't cheap! And to be honest I think I prefer the S3 interior.

I have a 2 1/2 car garage only.
See below my last $100K dollar highly modified 1 of 1 in the world machine.
And see where the current asking price is as I type this and the monies one can lose on Highly-Modified-Cars !!!
That's why I made the comment above to you.

Look mate If your only going stage 1 Revo and want to do anything get the intake and turbo inlet, that’s probably the best bang for buck mod.

Don’t listen to all the jargon on here.

Ouch. I totally see your point, but I don't plan on spending more than £1k so hopefully the depreciation when I come to sell it won't be as painful! Nice car by the way, big Mustang fan.. Well the engine and exteriors that is, sat in a 2018 Mustang the other day and wow was that a lot of plastic!

Hey small world, I have family in Nashville and I've visited Franklin a few times, nice city! TN is one of my favourite places I've ever been.

Thanks Mike, would you say that was essential for stage 1? Could you link me to the parts? Thanks

Certainly not mate but you will have some good gains with just this mod on stage 1.

I’ll have a look for you pal.

If you keep the Mods down to a normal level No-Worries on monies lost as you say.

As you know Nashville is only maybe 20 miles North of Franklin on I-65 North.
Many years ago we lived in Nashville and I worked their for a lot of years.
I have been retired since 2008 when I ordered that Limited Edition Bullitt Mustang you just saw.

Well how about that it is sometimes a small World for sure. :thumbs up:
We have now lived in Franklin, TN. USA for over 32 years.
Same house we purchased New before construction was completed.
Over the years we have greatly-up-dated it.
There is and has always just been the two of us as we decided not to have children.
I have two main Guy things, Fast cars & Custom Home Theater.

I am extremely jealous of both your house and home cinema (and where you live!) nice. That's how you do it!

I helped my cousin move last year from his Nashville loft (an old Marathon motors building) to the desert, we drove 2000 miles and I had the time of my life. If it wasn't so difficult to get a visa in the US I'd up and move in a heartbeat!

Man, 2,000 miles now that's some serious driving my man.
I don't think at my age now I'd be up for that.
So, I'm thinking I might be chatting with a younger fellow ???

Hey if you were into movies then you would probably love the Home Theater as it is Bad-*** !!!

Later,

Say, here is me and below is the complete crew, Terry, Rascal (Maine C00N Male Cat) & Cathy.
And look close you will see that Bullitt Mustang in the pictures.

Cheers Mike. Do you recommend this over the Revo offering?
What are my intake options and does this go hand in hand with the hose upgrade? (Excuse my lack of knowledge here)

To be honest if the Revo intake was out at the time I’d have purchased it. Revo have the same intake into the turbo as turbo technics and others also. I’d say there all very similar and in performance so it’s really what ever you like the look of.

Just to play devils advocate have you considered APR Perfomance? Iv'e tuned all my VAG cars with them as I have always found them better than Revo. Can't comment on the price difference ( if any) but they are well worth a look. You get some mega figures from a stage 1...

I have both APR and Revo available to me locally. Revo is offered my trusted mechanics hence why I'm looking at that. What is it that you find better with APR if you dont mind me asking? Revo Stage 1 is listed as as £600 on their site, what did the stage 1 with APR set you back?
Thanks

I'm getting an APR stage 1 on the 24th. I've preempted the remap with an R600 intake, turbo technics hose, turbo muffler delete, cat back milltek and a Wagner intercooler and new plugs. Hoping for some strong figures. R600 intake is a bad fit and I'm not alone in my observations. Exhaust is loud. I'm in a manual so having the clutch changed first. All told about £5500 in total. So not cheap but should be good fun.

So from what I can see Revo have a 'Turbo Inlet Hose' and also a 'MQB Air Intake'. Am I right in thinking that the hose is a straight swap and works with the stock box (same as the Turbo Technics one?) and the MQB system is a full replacement for the whole thing?

Have they given you any indication of what to expect in terms of figures? How much was the Stage 1 alone if you dont mind me asking?

Unfortunately it like the old how long is a piece of string mate. Will only find out on the day. The tuner has said that the standard turbo wont give more than 390 BHP, this is down to the maximum boost pressure it can cope with. I believe it's a fixed price of £761. Sorry I can be more help today. I'll update on the 25th all being well.

So I got my APR stage 1 on a deal for £650, I believe it retails for £750.

Click here and have a look, they are very transparent with all their prices on their site.

http://www.goapr.co.uk/products/?vehicle=A3_MKIII

From my understanding and from long talks with APR themselves, they have a much larger R&D dept than Revo.

APR in the US and AUS are huge, they just have a really really good track record for good software. A quick google will show you how hard it is to find bad reviews on them. You get updates for life and a 30 day money back gaurantee ( or there was when I had mine done)

One thing to bare in mind with APR. Unlike Revo they DO NOT offer a TCU tune for the S3. They believe the gearbox is more than capable of handling a stage 1, hence why they don't offer it- the 7speed one.

Revo do offer a TCU tune- I think its around £600-£700.

Any more questions don't hesitate to ask. I have had nothing but good dealings with APR so they've won my business any-day.

My standard turbo got 401 and cars from MRC have gained 420 ish.

It’s the pipe and the turbo inlet pipe all included, a direct fit to the turbo. You will need to remove the old intake from the turbo and replace it with the pipe kit, this will fit to the stock intake and will be fine.

There’s always other tuners to go with but to be honest if your not chasing figures then there all the same really just get what ever you feel is a right decision.

All I can go on is what the APR tuner has told me. Different rolling roads can pull different figures. MRC are pushing big numbers. Be interesting to put an APR tuned on MRC and Visa versa. If I was to get anywhere near the 390bhp with my add ons I'll be as happy as a pig in poo!

I’m not going to get into the the vs Apr/Revo/MRC and any other tuners as it starts to get messy and can’t be bothered.

There’s not a lot of difference on your every day driving experience. There maybe once in a blue moon you will have some fun with a like to like modded car but the variables will come into play.

I’m sure you will enjoy your car ether way my friend.

Thanks Mike, and @Leevr appreciate all the advice.

Just out of curiosity did you guys declare the remap and/or hardware mods to your insurers? and if so was the price hike significant?

As with many cars a stage 1 is the biggest bang off buck. most tuners quote in the order of 360bhp for this alone. Anything above will be incremental gains really. e.g. £600 or so for 360bhp stage 1, or closer to 5 grand for a full stage 2 for between 400 to 420 bhp depending on which tuners figures you believe.

fwiw Ive just fitted a pipercross panel filter to mine, removing the plastic grate underneath in the airbox, and it does pull a bit stronger and is quicker to respond. The stock filter which came out did look pretty dirty though. Ive also get a revo front mounted interooler which I had done when the clutch was uprated, but to get the best out of these mods it probably needs a remap as I don't think they really add much over stock otherwise.

My 1 year warranty is up in july, and assuming the car behaves I'm probably going to look at getting the JB4 which is £400 and gets the car up to around 360bhp, maybe 370 with the other mods. That will be it for me.

I spotted that Revo offer this hose and airbox lid kit, but considering the hose on its own is only £180 would I be right in thinking that you're essentially paying an additional £120 here for the lid that has zero performance gain over stock.. just looks a little nicer?

I don't see what that lid will add other than looking pretty.

Well if you look at the intakes available you will see how expensive they are. There intake pipes now have the turbo inlet included, a while ago all you could get was a CTS Intake pipe then the intake silicone pipe after that there was the actual intake it’s self.

Sorry for the delay, yes all mods declared with Adrian flux. Was only £67 more than my original renewal.

Same as above ^ although my insurance more or less doubled since I was on such a stupidly cheap policy before.

Hi.
Glad we could help out with your insurance renewal.
