Have you heard the S4/S5 rumour...

The frustrating thing for me about all of this is that it isn't really cars that are polluting the planet it is Big Business. The performance car industry is gradually being killed off (WLTP then speed limiters then leccy cars then autonomous cars etc). Cars seem to graduating towards a product that you simply order from your mobile when you need one. Damn shame as others have said.

TX.
Cars are soon to be a device no different from a mobile phone. Electric cars are a device in my view - all work the same, all silent, one gear, fuel via a cable (stops himself getting back on a rant about eleccy cars)

Yeah the M340i with 4 wheel drive and 380bhp is it? That is a great car I'd like to see/test.

I'm waiting for the touring version later this year. My wife has the same engine in her X4 and it's definitely worth the wait. It's everything that the S4 was and should be

Interior isn't quite up to Audi quality but the tech is just as good.

They already offer this service. It's a joke. And the millennials are eating it up The UN don't want you owning anything bud. It's a shame that it's us witnessing the forced death of these machines. It will get to a point where people like us are frowned upon with our nose and performance cars.

How does the 4wd compare? With m performance parts, that touring will look and sound fantastic.

Stewing a bit more on this the 55TFSI A6 has 340bhp and the new S6 350bhp. I know the torque is much higher but these headline figures just look madness.
I would probably rather take a smooth 55TFSI or a 50tdi and save a huge chunk of cash.
The only positive of all this is if they are not shifting a semi decent lease deal might come up. Other than that cant think of a reason to get one over a 55/50 A6.

Can't really compare it to my TTS as it's a very different car but the X4 is every bit as capable as my wife's old Evoque. Hides it's size and weight well

I can see everyone's frustrations with this.

Tbh a v6tdi engine with loads of torque does make sense as a sporty alternative to the s7 but they should have offered it a long side the 2.9tfsi

That way both diesel and petrol fans will be happy.

I'm sure it will feel quite different to just a normal 50tdi with a tune as it will have a different sound even if it's fake, plus an electric compressor.

I doubt the 0 60 time is that accurate as Audi to stay conservative with 0 60 times. I reckon it should do it under 5.

Also don't see it coming to the s4 or s5 as the higher u go on the s cars they should be faster not slower. That engine in an s4 or s5 will definitely be faster as it's in a lighter body.

All so confusing really!

Sooooooooo glad I bought one of the last supercharged S5s. 480PS and loads of fun :)
If the Euro S4/5 is diesel, but as per the plans for S6/7 the ROW gets petrol, then IF they finally crack that ECU then those remaining B9 petrol S4/5s should have a good enthusiast market.
This is also some compensation for the fact that I'm getting old. I'm now attracted to electric cars. The performance ones are in "head" terms better than the petrol ones. It's only the "heart" terms which makes petrolheads dislike them.

Similar comments on my post last night confirming the news, to the ones here. But what I have noticed is that many German IG colleagues of mine love it. They can’t get enough of it. So I wonder if there is a cultural issue here. German efficiency and all that?

I also have this feeling that specialist car makers, such as Morgan, Caterham and many other kit car manufacturers will be forced out of business by legislation unless some exemption is brought in...

Haha you know it.

Wait till everyone sees the fake quad exhaust pipes with the real pipes under the car, which I published in January.

The S4/S5 tdis are next up for announcement.

Yeah, they don't have the resources or funding to meet all of these restrictions. Tut

Sounds like the S3 will be left as petrol...for now. 2.0 TDI to follow after the massive success of all the S diesel models

Possibly, in the arena of estates on stilts from the outside. But the plastically interior and expensive options, such as climate which should be standard.
Personally I would go for a Skoda, VW or seat version and pay less..

Fair enough. Not been in one so couldn't comment.

Climate wasn't standard on my TTS either - shocking on a 40 grand car. Needed to buy the comfort pack with the fancy LCD vent centres

So can’t build on configurator right now . I presume new orders will be S4 diesel ?
So no zero mileage approved used / pre-reg on Audi used www (1500 miles is lowest mileage one they have).
Do you think it means the petrol b9 S4 will hold their value better long term - last of the petrol S4 generation ? When I come to the end of the pcp in 1 year, I might just buy it and keep it. Hadn’t considered that before ...

And most the S5 have gone too. Recently there was a plethora of used S5. Now jugst 10 !

So far it’s only been announced the S6 will be diesel. No mention of the S4.

Haven't been able to configure a S4 for quite some time now. What with the changes to a proper facelift and the 'possible' engine changes things seem to be in a holding pattern...

If someone cracks the Bosch ECU then I think a good specc'd B9 S4/S5 will have a market with tuning enthusiasts. Will this keep the prices up? Maybe.

It did take a while for the previous SIMOS ECUs to be cracked so the Bosch one is not an exception yet. Although I do read that it is a tough one...

The S7 TDI was announced at the same time as the S6...

The TDI S4 is running on my Stories now.

S5 facelift was over the weekend. Nice rear lights.

The S5 TDI press release is now finally out, some five months since we covered it. The link is below, but I’m sure it can be faxed.

https://www.audi-mediacenter.com/en/press-releases/the-audi-s5-models-now-with-a-tdi-engine-11490

So the rumours are now showing to be true!

As a diesel fan myself, well I'd say mainly 6 cylinder diesels n above I'm impressed but at the same time I don't see why they'd choose that to replace the petrol. It's beyond me.

Knowing my 272 is supposedly tuned to 320ps and 700nm with the 3 mods I have I can safely say I have the closest feel to what this s5 tdi will be like albeit without the cool electric assistance and synthetic sound!

Mid range torque and off the line acceleration is mighty, so as much as the petrol fans will be dissapointed by this news, I don't think its all negative.

I think owners of tuned v6 tdis, sq5,7s will know the potential of these engines and how they translate on to the road.

I also think it will do 0 60 in less than what's quoted.

Ive personally recorded a 4.8 second 0 60 time flat out on mine and with launch control that's 4.4, and the launch control time was recorded 2 years ago. I'm sure it's improved since then too.. So with an extra 30bhp plus an electric compressor I can easily see this being much faster than 4.8 seconds.

I also wonder what the tuning capability will be, 400bhp 800nm? That would be mental on a car that size.

Anyway, I feel bad for the petrol fans as they really should have just offered it a long side the petrol s5 and maybe bumped up the power a bit on the petrol to make up for the torque deficit.

These wltp emissions then?

If the rs4 engine is still being produced maybe they could have detuned that for the s4/s5? Just my thoughts..

It will feel a quicker car in normal driving for sure but the S4 S5 petrol sound so good! Expecting fake quad pipes also.

ECU's locked down in S and RS cars, tuning potential is limited.
