Carista App Now Avaliable For the 8V A3/S3 - PFL & FL Covered

It depends very much what you use it for. If it's for a few one-off customisations, then probably not.

If you use it on more than one car - and for fault-finding as well as fiddling with stuff - then it's definitely worth the cost of the subscription. A dealership will charge you sixty notes (and the rest) to plug their diagnostic gubbins in, and independents who would often do it for nothing a couple of years ago have cottoned on to what they were missing out on.

Quite apart from the routine stuff like passenger mirror dip (which should be standard), beep-on-lock and enabling oil temperature in the DIS (which the car really ought to come with as well), mine has paid for itself many times over in diagnosing faults in three cars, not to mention several service reminder resets.

.

I definitely agree, using it for multiple cars or fault-finding is worth it (as long as you're doing it regularly). However this isn't the case for most people - they'll only ever use it a couple times or they'll end up upgrading to VCDS because of Carista's limitations.

Does anybody have a definitive as to what the options below on the screenshot actually do, particularly the torque limited interaction?

For torque limiter, I found this:

"My understanding (and I am not an expert) is that on the Front Wheel Drive cars VW have implimented a control that applies the brakes when you are in 1st, 2nd & 3rd to avoid wheel spin under power.

All this change is doing is removing that function so you can push it as hard as you like and the car will not try and slow you down."

Great, thanks very much.

I have been skimming through the 11 pages of this and picked up bits and pieces.
Is there a definitive list of all the stuff Carista can do for both the pre facelift and facelift?
I have obd11 and access to an old hex-can vcds cable so interested to see what carista can do compares to the rest.

I don't think so no. And it's hit and miss if all the features work even if they show up anyway.

I bought mine. Used it once while it was free and that was it. And didn't really enable much with it at the time anyway though considering it was cheap, beep on lock/unlock was worth it in itself!

I have Quattro and the torque limit was set to medium. Shifting it to disabled seem to make a difference to acceleration but could be placebo. I set it back to the original setting as I’m not sure how safe it is for the gearbox etc

Can you use the app to release electric handbrake?

Bummer!

Anything that does, except vcds?

When I used it a few months ago I only remember seeing the second option of that. I can check my car tomorrow if needed though
I plugged in earlier and saw it there, couldn't test though as not subscribed but the option was there.

OBDeleven has this function.

Dumb question.....
If you take the car to the garage , just one of the many tyre/brake/exhaust garages around... what would they be using to disengage the handbrake? I can't see them using something like Carista/OBD .. but struggiling to see these 'basic' garages having VCDS also ..?

Does this app have any DRL functions like brightness adjustment and having them not dim when indicating or when the headlights are on etc?

Nope. None of that. It has some DRL options like turn off or on when parking brake is engaged but nothing for brightness

Thanks, I'll get VCDS on it at some point then so I can make some tweaks. I did the non dimming DRL thing on my TTS and quite liked it.

I have a bog standard PFL SE 1.4 sportback with normal lights. Have just tried to enable the fog lamps as cornering lights using Carista but the system wont take it. Is my car too low spec to do this?

Hi guys!

Not long picked up my A3 Sline, 2015. Car has good spec but hoping to get Carista as it looks the most appropriate price for what I need.

Was wondering if anyone has had experience enabling cornering lights, needle sweep, rear parking display on MMI, reverse mirror dip?

Cheers!

Think most people have activated all those options via Carista. Take a read through this thread. you will find all your answers!

I've enabled all of those, took a few minutes tops. The UI is really simple so you shouldn't have any trouble with it

Magic mate! Just ordered one. Saw posts in the thread but they are quite loosely posted and not always complete.

Haha yeah bit all over the place. If you have any questions on how to do anything, feel free to ask. Thankfully most stuff is self explanatory for carista

I've just been added to the Carista beta programme with the main aim of trying to open the exhaust flaps. I know it's been stated that people have had errors when trying to feature but my issue is, I can't even find the option in the Carista app.

Can someone let me know where it is on the app please?

The option for the flaps was only visible on the beta version of the app but no one seems to be able to get it to work however, the app has just received an update so it may work now. Not had chance to try it out yet.

What app do you folks recommend for dashboard, acceleration tests, live data using the Carista adapter?
