Think I might keep my s3 a bit longer now. It might go up in value cause of this.
Speed limiting doesn’t work. You look at some work vans that’s limited to 62mph and all the drivers do is drive flat out everywhere they go.
There’s 2 ends of the spectrum as well. Slow drivers can cause accidents too so are they going to do a minimum limit on certain roads too?
I used to drive a lot and there’s always some idiot doing 50mph on the outside lane in a 3 lane motorway or lorries hogging all 3 lanes trying to overtake each other when they are limited to 56mph. These folk create frustration and cause accidents as well.

I'm a fan of the sign recognition tech in my current Golf. However, as the article states, it's far from perfect. Example: I drive past a supermarket entrance and there is a sign up for 10km/h. This is within view from the main road and close enough for my car to recognise it as the speed limit and it throws up the 10 sign on the dash display. Imagine my car slamming on the brakes by itself to drive 10km/h in a 90km/h zone LOL

I reported about this bull***t a few weeks ago and it seems that most people simply don't care. We're all going to be leaving our safety and decisions to machines soon, which in the end will create an even more brainwashed society. I'm keeping my car and don't give a f*** about these new rules. It will be probably be an electronic signal that will need intercepted with something like a resistor. Kinda like some of the vim workarounds if software isn’t an option.

The word "Envisaged" says it all. Use this term so people don't kick up much of a fuss, as they'll think, `I'll just turn it off`, then once it's rolled out, the `Envisaged` off switch won't be there !!

It's all scaremongering "could" at the moment anyway. Car manufacturers are sizeable players in the world economy and motorists a rich revenue source.

If this does become law Many car manufacturers will go out of business ie the likes of Porsche ,Ferrari, Lamborghini, catherham etc. May as well buy An Audi With the lowest engine power . There a couple of roads locally where the speed limit from the map (allegedly up to date according to Audi) is wrong and it is only when the camera sees a repeater sign does it correct itself. These aren't recently changed limits either.

Anybody who has had the misfortune to drive along the new 50 limits on the M27 where the new 'smart' motorway works are starting will know that enforced speed limit adherence hasn't exactly improved driving standards

If you read up on Junker in particular it sounds like a "stitch up" as 25 of 27 EU leaders voted for him with DC being one who didn't.

Well we still have some sanity in Canada and the USA.....sign reading technology is not available as of this date on any car sold here, maybe in the future, but I doubt it, as Yanks do not like big brother looking at you with cameras etc. Many provinces and states have no camera enforced radar speed areas , only police enforced radar traps who stop you on infraction.
To be very honest technology is taking over with lane departure, auto braking, auto radar controlled speed that all rely on an ECU to make the decisions.
Methinks, that is not a good thing, Boeing 737 max 8!? It also makes for not very attentive drivers and this technology in is it's infancy. I constantly see vehicles wandering in their lanes, as lane departure only seems to take affect after the vehicle has crossed the lane.
Just wait till some crackpot hacks these systems, when your car goes in for servicing.
