RS3 Orders (week 10/11)

Showing Saloon, Audi Sport edition. Hmmm, wonder what that is then?

Isn't that the one people leaked on this forum? With the pan roof, sports exhaust, privacy glass, black pack, etc.

Some new things I've seen include the 'Decorative Mercury Inserts', which looks like this:

0e0f7636-98c2-487a-8ca6-fc140a6779e8.jpg

For some reason it says 'Red Brake Calipers with S3 logo'. New colour is Tango Red. It has some more interior colour options, not seen them before. One is 'Moon Silver/Black/Black/Black' and the other is 'Silver-Grey/Black/Black/Grey'.

I noticed that with the S3 logos on the callipers too... not sure about the “mercury inserts,” just looks like the standard trim I’ve aleady got in mine :tearsofjoy:

Having a quick look there’s nothing I’d have got different about mine I don’t think :relieved:

Fail to see what's sporty about a Pano roof. If anything it's adds weight and actually makes the car less sporty. I'll need to check the Audi sport A3 race car, but I'm fairly confident it wouldn't have a pano roof.

Marketing exercise then !

Personally, I just don’t get people view on this... “pano roof adds weight,” yes it’s adds a few kg’s to the car, but to 99% if owner are you ever going to notice that you’ve done your daily commute 0.03 of a second slower because of the pano roof’s damn weight :seenoevil::tearsofjoy: does it make a differnace in everyday driving... nope!

Assuming you mean “wouldn’t,” while you’re there checking the A3 race car... I’m sure you’ll notice a whole host of differences, look forward to seeing your list so we can rest easy seeing what else they’ve used as a marketing exercise to trick us :speaknoevil:

Totally agree regarding the added weight thing. But to call something sport edition, then add a pano roof goes against making it a `sport`, as generally making a car more sporty removes heavy additions to the car.

Yes, it should have said `wouldn't`. Edited :)

Agree over the concept of them making it sound like a “sport” addition to the car mate... I’ve got one on mine, purely for nice days and to hear the soundtrack from out back! They must see it as a good selling point going off previous sales... that, or they have a warehouse full of pano roof’s that need used up fast with the new A3 round the corner :tearsofjoy:

Has anyone ordered yet? I am considering it, but it seems a lot more expensive than when I bought my pfl. I went to my local Audi in Wakefield and was offered zero discount.

I didn't think about that Richard. It's annoying since its pretty much end of life for this generation but because they stopped being made, they've now got zero discount. You'd have to be desperate for a new one to do it I think although the sport pack does seem like good value for money.

I bailed due to lack of individual colours and limited option customisation, a bit gutted as I’d been waiting for the order books to hopefully open up again.

Best of luck for whatever you decide, it’s still a amazing car and potentially the last ICE RS3.

Zero wtf. I got about 6% on 2017 rs3 saloon plus gap for 300 I think was was ok and not much different to ala who I used for the s3.

I got 7% on my last Rs3 pfl, and payed 42.5k including 6k of options.
I said I’d order there and then and pay 5k deposit on a 51.5k car.if I could get 6.5%.
It was rarther dissapointing as I’m a loyal Rs3 fan.
My last car is no more after the wife got carjacked 6 weeks ago. So I want to get one ordered quickly as there may be a substantial wait, if I don’t get in quick. Paying full price doesn’t make the decision justifiable.

Some people will buy these cars to track and race down the 1/4m, get performance metrics from etc.

Not everyone buys a car to tootle to Tesco and back at 3000rpm. When you buy a performance car, you buy it for its performance otherwise you would opt for a 1.6 TDI base model version. If you're buying a car to take onto the tracks or do timed runs etc then you want that car to weigh as little as it possibly can. You also want a better handling, better braking car too. Adding 30-40kg of weight doesn't just slow the car down in its acceleration. Stopping distances are increased, handling and feel due to the higher C of G suffers, it's heavier on brakes, tyres, etc etc. There are people out there that fit lightweight wheels, brakes, batteries, seats etc to make their cars quicker so it's not hard to understand that people have these views about adding unnecessary weight to their cars to begin with ;)

I'm sure there are S and RS owners out there that just buy the car for the badge though and don't bother to spool their turbos beyond 3500rpm so overall weight and performance is not high up in their priorities.

That is disappointing mate, have you tried other dealers yet?

What a terrible thing to happen to your wife, hope she is ok, but I am sure has been very shaken up at the least

Ohh I get the points you’re making for sure mate... but if you’re only bothered about performance and handling etc for a track... there’s plenty of other cars that would come above the RS3 (personal optional of course)

I’d say most RS3 won’t see a track in their lifetime, and be used as you’ve said, work and shop runs with the occasional spirited drive out

Different strokes for different folks at the end of the day. It's unfortunate, but I don't think mine will be seeing a track during my ownership unless it's a tutored novice day. It just serves me as a very nippy daily driver and a bit of fun on the weekends and I'm willing to bet that's how the vast majority of owners use theirs.

Obviously it probably makes sense to not spec the pano roof if you're going to be competitively tracking the car often, but I think the other points made about acceleration, extra wear and tear on the brakes, tyres, etc are pretty negligible. I can't imagine it'd be something you'd ever notice vs one without the pano roof.

Had a quick look at the online configurator for the sportback.

I really can't believe the colour choice ... so bland and boring !

Why could they have not introduced another few colours like mica blue / suzuka grey / solar orange etc ... just to inject some colour excitement and different choice for us owners who already have an RS3 and might have considered a new one.

Those bucket seats we saw pictures of as an option on the early cars, that would have been a great option too.

Some new (exciting design) alloys.

All of these things would make the car feel new and fresh .... it is mostly the same car I bought 3 years ago .... and there is no way I'm chucking £thousands at a new car to replace the one I have for something so similar.

It is crazy that they aren’t upping spec and options as they often do for outgoing models...poor, really poor

I know people are wanting more options, more colours, something a little different here... but at the same time, production wasnt stopped to make changes like that, it was stopped to meet the new emissions standards etc, there has already been a facelift of this generation RS3 when changes were made to it

Yes maybe but Audi are in the business of selling cars & many of us feel bland colours, same old alloys & limited options is just lazy & is costing them sales.

Theses changes wouod not be drastic & would at least inject some interest into considering a new car for existing RS3 owners.

I think the RS4 will feel like quite a step up from the RS3. But then it is quite a bit more expensive! The only thing is the lack of noise...

@terminator x is your friend here, having had both!

Yeah the factory RS4 is a much nicer fit and finish vs the RS3 but so so quiet from the factory^. Mine sounds better as I got the PCW mod done and have active valve control so dynamic now has valves always open vs comfort always shut. The RS4 just looks  too though!

That’s the dilemma, I’m also looking at a c63s but in an ideal world the RS3 would fit the bill and I don’t need to go to the next level. I must admit in the flesh I really liked the look of the black RS4 I saw at the local dealers. Nice fat arches made it look aggressive to my eyes.

I’ve got the M performance exhaust on the M2 and it sounds great when caning about but it also drones a little and the pitch bothers my ears yet no one else so I may find as I’m about to hit 40 that the RS4 is the ideal overall package.

Having some lunch whilst they crunch the numbers on existing stock.

Have to say I was more drawn to the RS3 but it’s a bit of a random spec so not sure it’s for me unless the numbers really work.

Can the sports exhaust be retro fitted without much fuss?

I’m assuming not so easy for B&O?

Here is the car here, they have tinted the windows and had the wheels refurbed to the polished/black look and it looks much better for it:

https://usedcars.audi.co.uk/usedcar...hp-all-wheel-drive-grey-1_GBR00759686934.htm#

For somewhere in the region of 3-400 quid you can get an exhaust mod done that makes it sound better than the sports exhaust... lots on here have had it done... I’m sure someone will be along soon with more details than me

£46,000 for that spec is really strong money in my opinion and lack of SS Seats and Sports Exhaust will make it more difficult to sell when the time comes. You can order a brand new one for less than that one

Thanks Temo, I agree it is so it’s down to how desperate he is for the sale. I expect to take a hammering on the M2 so he would need to swallow some of that.

Can’t say I planned to order the super sports as I don’t rate them so I guess I’d be in the same boat new although I’d spec it differently and include sports exhaust

Let us know how you get on. M2’s are holding up pretty well since the release of the competition. The N55 makes a lovely sound.

As for SS Seat, they aren’t as hugging as some but they look really nice and will definitely help the cars future value.

I’ve found the M2 is taking a bit of a hit with the CP here but the CS is due soon enough so it never ends. Over time an Lci N55 could be the one to own and worth some money but I can’t see me holding onto it now.

As predicted the quote on the second hand car was silly although he was swallowing some negative equity but didn’t tell me how much so we decided it was best as originally planned to wait until the finance deals are released in the coming weeks.

He did state that I could put down £1k deposit and have an order slot today and we can work the numbers out when they arrive. Does that mean that we should expect a price hike again come 1st April from what’s just been released?

Next dilemma is I went for a sportback but there was an S3 saloon sitting there and it looked very nice to my eyes so I’m now debating that along with sport edition or not.

It looks like I will be ordering a new one now once I can decide on spec.

I wouldn’t mind hearing the sports exhaust on a FL if anyone happens to be in the Glasgow area and can oblige

Good question, I’ve got a bad habit of changing cars every 3-6 months so it’s been a miracle that the M2 lasted 1.5 years to date.

I am finding I avoid using it at the weekend with our 9 month old now in tow so it will genuinely be easier with a 5 door just to jump in and go over taking the wife’s car.

I’ve also got that 5 pot itch to scratch but one thing that does annoy me with the M Performance exhaust is the Bluetooth controller and how it’s not integrated into the car. I also find the pitch of the exhaust can annoy my ears at times although when caning it through a tunnel it sounds like something more exotic. Something as silly as that is enough to make me move on

What’s that car been doing for so long? (Assuming it’s a very early one registered on a 68)

It’s got the very, very early brake discs on it... that’s if those discs ever did come fitted to a factory FL RS3.... I know they were on the TTRS.

Done that little mileage but possibly replacement set of discs? Strange as it’s very late registered also.

The nearside rear tyre is odd!! Never, ever recommended should not only be changed in pairs for tread wear compatibility but last time I checked it’s illegal to run odd tyres on the same axel! Probably a P-Zero but the wrong type, straight side wall and won’t have the right tread pattern.

Looking at that, I’d absolutely walk away from it.
