I was talking about the exhausts. I like them. I thin kit give the back end a nice aggressive look.

It’s a diesel, not an RS. Perfectly fine for what it is and adds a bit of aggression round the rear.
Facelift SQ5 from 2017 till before the recent WLTP update were petrol. With obviously fake (and horrible) exhausts, on an S model.

After lowering my B5 S4 and then endlessly suffering from problems with speed bumps and ramps, plus having concern about the deteriorating quality of UK roads, I did imagine that I might get a V10 Toureg to replace it. But I suppose the idea of a V10 diesel was probably better than the reality of it.

Well taking a car that already has a lower ride height than than ordinary saloons then lowering it even further isn't going to help. The suspension systems of a typical suv are designed for ordinary roads, not offroad, and aren't any different what so ever from one fitted to an ordinary hatchback. You are kidding yourself if you think they are any different. Most SUV'S just pretend they are rugged by having different bits of trim stuck on them..

For me, I switched back from A6 avant to Q5 because of ride height and nothing else. A6 bottomed out in snow drift (ok it was beast from the east) but the Mrs struggles getting in and out of low A6. A number of people of this forum have changed from S3 A4 etc into Q’s for those reasons (bad backs etc). As much as I would love an RS or sportier car than my Q5, the gravel/mud lane we live on is truly awful (yes even worse than Britain’s roads)
No problem with that at q5man, those are good reasons. However the majority of SUV'S on the road are no better than just being estate cars on stilts and people are kidding themselves if they think they are in anyway more rugged...

We have a couple of very large schools near us. Would not make an iota of difference to the army of SUV mothers, armed with their Woolworths licences,
that treat school mornings & afternoons as practice for the Dakar Rally so they can get close enough to the classroom door so little Johnny/Jenny does not have to walk an extra 10 yards!!
I work at two schools, one primary that has 630 pupils, the other being special needs. Generally parents are fairly responsible but it can be chaos out there sometimes. It's amusing to see parents turning up 3/4 hour before the kids come out just so they can claim their parking spot..

What I don't like is people who buy the really big SUVs (the XC90 comes to mind) and then drive down B roads with their wheels over the central line, and just expect me to drive on the verge to avoid them! If you really want an SUV then fine, but if its too big for some roads then don't drive along them!

If there were pipes inside the fake inlets so, they weren't 'fake', id have to agree. The squared off ones suit the car. But there's nothing there but plastic haha.

End of the day, super SUVs are pretty impressive. For the size of them. I love the SQ7.LOVE my S**t box.

But most S**t boxes are only hatchbacks, or estates, on stilts and the only reason some buy them is because they 'think' they are getting a safer, more rugged S***t box when in fact the opposite is true. All they are doing is clogging up our roads, make overtaking as difficult as trying to get past a caravan and producing more polution.
It is about time we stopped trying to emulate the USA, like Halloween, Christmas etc. and we should have our own identity. Next I can forsee us having a Independence Day lol...

You'll need to wait until July, I liked the film though. Even the USA gets it wrong, independence day should be celebrated nearly a month later on August 2nd as that's when the declaration was actually signed. So even they can't get it right...

Its a bizarre trend I will agree. S should have quads, RS two big ovals. Standard models im not to bothered about (dont get me wrong I still dont like it). It probably doesnt bother 95% of people but I wouldnt have an SQ5 because of it personally.
The argument is similar to the one about the halo on f1 cars. Purists argued it was not in the spirit of open cockpit racing, was ugly etc. But now it is unnoticeable. I expect the same will happen with false tailpipes. Just a trend and nothing that would really be big enough in preventing me from purchasing a vehicle that had them.
Heaven knows some manufacturer in the future might have the bright idea to put real tailpipes back, then claim they thought of it first..

....and, one of my real pet gripes, when one is behind on a wet road, they invariably throw out that bath water in a grimy spray akin to a 22 wheeler!!!

...however, in Oz that may be partially offset with the hot bright early morning or late afternoon sun, it does offer one some protection, but I get your Great Wall of China theory!!!
Trivia - On a SQ7, the button on the key for the boot operates it to both open & close the boot.
Probably will filter down from SUVland to the lower echelons at some point.

I was able to do this on my S4 Avant as well, you just had to be within a certain range to close it but could open it from as far as it could read the key signal.
