just wondering when people are going to take their winters off. Last few days the weather has been over 10 degrees and the forecast is for mild/warm weather over next few weeks. Sod’s law is that will put summer tyres on and we will get a cold snap again. What to do.....

I took mine off yesterday. In my view there was no point in having them when the temps are above 10* and will stay like that going forwards. I could clearly hear the winters getting noisier as the temps rose.

If the temps rise again, I will continue with the summers as it is unlikely to stay low for long. Plus I am on holidays away for three weeks for mid March and I would expect the weather to have settled by the time I am back early April.

Am thinking I might need to order up my summer tyres for fitting next week. Got a 400 mile trip next weekend all motorway and thinking Rather have summers on.

Oooft. I keep asking this. It might well be time. But look what happened last year! The beast haha. But tash is right, these temps are not helping. Proper spongey too.

I have a Dyno meet in Stockport (Rick - Unicorn) this weekend and temps on the day are forecasted to be around 15* so, had to change them. The forecast for the next few weeks is fluctuating between 12-15* so, makes sense to have summers on.

Oh, and then a road trip to Aberdeen on 1 March returning 3rd so, wouldn't want to use winters with that many miles in a mild weather.

another year when winter tyres were overkill. I am not knocking them as i owned a set on my BMW . But they only ever were of any use one year out of 5. the last 2 years i have not bothered.

I found the michelin pilots on my audi this year dealt with the snow that we had

Yeah I've got some long runs ahead too. The heat will just eat away at them and whole point of rotating is to get two years out of them at least.

I'm only keeping mine on because I have still have a holiday in Switzerland coming up at begining of april otherwise I would have swapped already.

I swapped mine last weekend, only because I ripped the sidewall out of one of my winters though - grr.

Probably would have left them on for another couple of weeks otherwise.

I'd really like to know how you get on with them. Heard great things.

I think I'll see how things are mid March - up in Aberdeenshire its not unknown for pretty bad snow to come in March, though its hard to imagine with the weather we have at the moment.

I will stick with my original plan and keep mine on both cars until April sometime - but really it is all down to location location location, do I want to get caught out by changing these wheels over early?
I've never found that Alpins or Alpin Pilots turn nasty in slightly warmer weather or increase wear significantly and I've been using them on both cars for maybe 10+ years.

Yeah I've found that cheaper snow tyres are generally excellent in the cold \ snow but very sketchy when it gets warm. The more premium ones are much less affected by warm weather.

The nokians aren’t that bad in the warm. But noticing a bit more slid and movement so going to change. Fingers crossed won’t habt any really cold weather.

New tyres on and done a few hundred miles. A lot quieter then the winters and grip is good so am very happy. Added bonus of Michelin doing £100 casback on 4 tyres.

I’m holding off for another few days, given the uncertainty in the weather forecast....

I usually leave on till end of March :stupid:

So far happy I have winters off. Temps have been almost above 7 degrees so no benefit. Drove through heavy rain and the MPS4S worked perfectly. Can’t see the news for winters now looking at forecast for next few weeks.

Agree, above 7deg negates the benefit

Perhaps wrong time for me to take the winters off. Got stuck (well, kind of) in the snow last night on way back from Aberdeen. It started couple of miles out of Dundee and stayed with us almost until Penrith. And there were patches of really heavy snow on the motorway where "people" were doing 30mph :racer::wtf:. Like others have mentioned, I shouldn't have trusted the British or shall we say Scottish weather as it was clear skies from Aberdeen to Dundee :sorrow:

Really?! We got nothing in Aberdeen and I actually took my motorcycle to work this morning because it seemed decent weather. Lol.

We were equally surprised as Sunday was really nice weather in Aberdeen. I left Aberdeen around 6:30pm and it was clear skies until just outside of Perth. The rain turned in to Snow just as we went past Perth and joined M80. All of M74 and especially A74 it was really poor visibility. I always stop at Annandale Services for a break but decided not to. It got really worse with heavy snow and poor visibility on M6.

I’ve booked mine in to have the summers fitted on Thursday.

I’ll stay clear of Scotland for now :racer:

Took my son up to Harrogate Army Foundation college for his start of training and went through 4 seasons...no jokes. Temp dropped to 2 deg, and car hit 10k miles (wife took photo...note ice symbol
