Facelift battery died within 5 mins of VCDS plug in....

I have a 66 plate S3, yesterday I took my car to a VCDS ( fellow audi) within 5 minutes of the connection the low battery warning came on... then car battery was flat! literally flat when he tried to start it.
luckily for me he had jump leads. however for a 2 year old car I was pretty surprised. nothing else was on and I do also recall when I set up my dash cam 2 months ago ( usb connection) I also got the warning and turned engine off...didn't think anything of it.

the VCDS bloke said it's strange as he can be connected for unto an hour on cars and he literally had it on 5 mins enough to do the mirror dip.

he checked the voltage and it flickered from 13.9-14.1 unsure what this means - however I took note.

also he wiped a code when first connected to the car which said -short circuit.

I have only had the car 2 months and had 2 issues which have happened- however not enough for me to take it to Audi to rectify.
- radio still playing and screen still up when key is out of ignition.
- passenger electric mirror stays in when drivers folds out.- both happened once.


any advice or recommendations?

If you have no access to a power supply then the first things you should do before coding a vehicle would be:

• Turn off Headlights
• Turn off Interior Lights
• Turn off Climate Control
• Turn off Heated Seats
• Turn off Puddle Lights (close doors)
• Turn off / Disconnect Dash Cameras

Basically you should turn off all consumers. Not uncommon for a vehicles battery to drain fast in this modern age. A Lambo will drain down to 7v in approx 3 mins if the battery is not floated. Ferrari's have charging ports built in and come supplied with a rebranded c-tek.

If your coder knew what he was doing then he would have completed an auto-scan before doing anything else. He may have cleared an error but his initial auto-scan would have been automatically saved within the Ross-Tech Scans folder, so you can reference the error if need be.

What dash cam do you have and is it hardwired?

Understood, but am thinking about the other time you have a battery low message. If your Cam has a parking mode and the voltage cut off is set to low then this can cause issues. Check the settings and change to 12.2v minimum for our current temperatures.

I have folding mirrors as optional extra. I didn’t notice the dip so took it to be done.

Check your battery type - Apparently there is a 'silent recall' on a batch of batteries. Mine died over the festive season and Audi replaced it under warranty. I posted in here about this a couple of months ago...
