Hello

Recently I have noticed that when trying to pull away quickly from stand still or when I have passengers in the car a high pitch squeal boise comes from the front of the car.

It doesn't happen everytime and my clutch doesn't make any grinding noises when running in neutral or slowly putting my clutch in and out.

I have done Google searches but can't find anything.

Does anyone have any idea what it might be? My car is a 2016 1.4 TFSI with 26k on the clock

That sort of noise used to be associated with a loose fan belt that would create the noise when driving in wet conditions. However, on a modern engine, there shouldn't be any issues as it is self adjusting. It maybe the tensioner itself or the belt needs replacing..

Ahh thanks, that would make sense because it happened this morning more than usual and the roads are wet.

I have the same problem. Same car with 30k. Left my audi at the audi garage. Just got call and they told me that might be flywheel. It's sound like wheel speen and more metallic sound.
As the still on warranty will cost nothing.

Where on the car does your noise come from, if it was the flywheel I would expect it to come from behind the engine...

It does sound like it's coming from the front of the car. Mines still under warranty so I will get it looked at.

Have they said how long they will have the car for to fix the problem?

They had all the parts so in few days. As I told them I need the car for work. They start it this morning so might be ready tonight. I mention that if not I need courtesy car. I think this is common problem with this cars unfortunately.

On a more sensible note I would agree with Cuke - either a tensioner or pulley. Have you checked the belt, has it got some oil or grease on?

I would stick it into Audi and get them to look at it. If you can get someone to film/record it on their phone as it will be sods law you cant replicate it when there is a tech there.

Just a quick update to thank you for your help.

My A4 finally went into Audi yesterday, I took a technician out on a drive and he recorded the noise on his phone.

I have just received a call to say they are replacing the clutch and flywheel under warranty and I should have my car back today or tomorrow :icon thumright:

Blimey, tad more than a belt, poor that these components are failing though.
Hopefully all will be well and good afterwards...

I had a dual mass flywheel replaced after far less mileage and length of ownership than that with my 2013 A3 1.4, however it definitely wasn't squealing..

Mine didn't squeal all the time just from a standing start sometimes up hill or with passengers.

I'm getting my car back tomorrow, they changed the clutch release bearing as well as the clutch and flywheel.

The flywheel was leaking oil onto the clutch which was causing the squeal.

I see, mine was a mechanical noise, like a rattle when cold and a vibration I could feel with my feet. I guess the clutch on yours is dry, whereas with the 2.0l as fitted to my A4 is wet...
