Build: S3 Hybrid build thread

They are pretty pricey 500 euros - so you are probably right, a BAM is essentially the Valentine's Day AMK

@Rainbird I'm not actually sure if they balanced the rods, I think good aftermarket rods should be shipped well ballanced :readit:
@Stuart B, yes rifle drilled.
@desertstorm they are supposedly some white-label rods that the mechanics use all the time. Didn't tell me a name but I will ask them more info the next time I see them.
@<tuffty/>, @Stuart B. I dont understand what you guys are saying, didn't get the joke :bye: you mean they are OEM BAM rods? They are not :search:

"Should" be as in if the manufacturers wanted to do things properly, but very rarely are. Usually overall weight is relatively decent but end to end not so much. Shouldn't be a major issue though.

@desertstorm pointed out they are identical to the FCP x-beam rods - Karl must have a keen eye.

They also sell H-Beam connecting rods?

when are you getting this altogether? pretty exciting times? have you sorted out the Left Hand Drive 80mm TIP now?

I spent a lot of time looking at rod selection. The FCP items was one I looked at. TBH most rods are made in China somewhere. I went for some IE H beam rods in the end, whether they are that much better than most of the Chinese offerings I am not sure.

dont know man, but there is this picture of the PEC Rods I bought :D #Boink

I'm sure that has had some other trauma involved though, or they turned the boost up to infinity + 1?

Ah I see, thanks Stuart.

Guys prommised me to hand over the car early next week! Gonna do some break in for a day or two and thn off to the Tuner! I just hope the new ECU will work plug&play and hopefully I dont need to call the tuner over first to code out the Immobiliser or something like that. Then it might take a bit longer.

I will try to fit the Badger TIP, but Im not promising anything .

Hoping to see around 300hp with this build.
Then probably sooner than later Im upgrading to ko4-380 hybrid and hoping to get 370hp :)

Might go custom turbo instead for bigger power, but Im just super worried that with 450hp+ all my drivetrain will keep breaking every week..

We ran into a bit of a speedbump with miss-communication with mechanics, each of us thought the other is ordering injectors and EGT sensor, so noone had ordered both :D

Long story short, we started checking the Injector options again and I got a bit confused! I was leaning towards Siemens Deka 630cc mid lenght 12.5OHM, or the Bosh 610cc injectors (I believe this is not at 3bar?) from Badger5 store . Clearly both of them have very short nozzle, while the original injectors in my engine came with very long nozzle! (see picture) Can anyone comment on this? Is the short nozzle better or should I look for injectors with the same length nozzle instead?

Short nozzle is fine (later AMK/BAM S3's run the same inlet on shorter injectors)... do not use dekas.. they are rubbish at low pulse widths (idle/cruise)... got Bosch like Bill sells on his site

<tuffty/>

Thanks Tuffty, I will get the Bosh ones then. Should be enough for around 400 whp

That's interesting as they are the same part number as the bosch 550s I bought I assumed they just setup for a 4bar fpr

Yep, when I search the part number I only get 550cc ones not 610cc as listed on Badgers store

Possibly a stock image but they will be genuine 610cc's as Bill sourced them specifically after many a time being burnt by various suppliers...

He also has an Asnu injector flow bench and has tested all the types of injector he now stocks...

<tuffty/>

searched what part number?
the library one off the webshop? more fool you if so..
You are calling him (and me) a fool for assuming the product picture in your store is the actual product? :huh:

To be fair I bought a laptop from Ebay and it was put down as a Dell x1 in the description which was an original ultra light laptop weighing 400 grams, when it arrived it was a heavy piece of junk I got back 80% I paid for it through Ebay, the lady picked the first Dell laptop in the model list.

more fool folks looking at a website, taking a part number and using it to buy their own.... Not aiming at you, stuart namely I replied to.
library pictures.. 550cc and 610cc look the same, the part numbers are obviously not the same, and I don't typically publish numbers for folks to use us to find products to buy elsewhere.

It's weird 117s are 550cc @3bar and 123s are 630cc @3bar
indeed..
and then you have the likes of us who actually flow test them, and sell them for what they actually delivered at 3bar, which was 610cc
not that it makes much odds to anything... you scale what you have based on logs and adaptions if you're doing it correctly.

that feels a little personal - we are either all fools or none of us are fools for comparing web sites and part numbers ;)

You could maybe state on your site that the picture is just for illustration only as some people would be interested in getting the "best possible injectors" for the "best possible price" after all the effort and research you have done, but would mistakenly go elsewhere when they were looking for 600's but saw the part number is only for 550, so you may have lost some people's business; especially considering you are cheaper for your Bosch 610cc injectors than Awesome for their Bosch 550s (If I remember rightly)

The adapters I found were a challenge but £6 for 8 delivered, is pretty good considering.

check again dear Stuart - and you will find JUST FOR YOU its now with added (library picture)

There is ZERO point in 550's unless you are buying a "canned" tune which is for them, when for EXACT same money you can buy 610cc bosch injector with EXACT same correct twin angles spray jet. Thats why I ceased offering 550cc. No point in them.

As for them looking at part numbers vs the ADVERTISED size on the webshop, more fool them for being internet "experts" searching for cheaper elsewhere.. buyer beware... Keep up your good work Stuart.

buyers will buy all manner of sh1t from people, and by **** I know there's some proper sh1t out there much to my own personal frustration when cars rock up with "cheap" "unknown", injectors off ebay, which run like a proper bag o shyte and when I put them onto my expensive asnu injector tester, all is revealed as to why they are working so soooo badly..

eg:

I am not continuing this silliness Bill, I have always respected your opinion and knowledge. I only noticed your picture showed the 117s after I bought mine and read your post from many years ago on seapcupra.net warning people of fakes so viewed your image to compare the position of the Bosch logo and fonts of the part number. I didn't buy your 610cc injectors originally as I was looking for 550cc injectors, school boy error but this is just a project and for of fun. We all know that buying anything from you comes with so much now than a receipt eg support and other advice, I apologise if I somehow offended you. Just so you know when i saw the 550cc part number i spent about an hour on the internet to see if there had been some kind of revised sizing or similar as i couldn't have imagined you would make a mistake i also considered that maybe you also provided an fpr or something. But at least you have cleared all that up now.

We good.... ?

So car is put together!
Since I had re-wired stuff because of the wideband lambda and EGT, and new ECU has immobiliser on, I figured I shouldn't use the old ECU (narrow lambda and no EGT, and altered wiring) for break-in.

So I got a spare wideband ECU from my tuner, but... It turned out it had immobiliser still on as well! So I wasn't able to use it. So basically we screwed in the narrowband lambda (didn't wire it back in), disconnected the EGT sensor, put in old injectors & fitted the old ECU.

I wasn't aware of this, but as it turns out my car has 4bar FPR and since ECU doesn't see the AFRs, it's running VERY rich - 9.5 at idle. Cannot rev it over 2,000rpm and actually scared of driving the car so I don 't break anything. So now it's sitting outside over the weekend until I can get to my tuner to fit all the correct parts and put on some temporary map for break-in. Shiit I'm so impatient to drive it but I can't...Anyway, by mid next week I will have it all broken-in and tuned :) Btw what are your thoughts on correct break-in? There seem to be as many opinions as there are people.

P.S. if you want to ask why the intercooler piping goes over the valve cover - it's to optimise the airflow by not having a 90degree turn:D

I wouldn't run it at all like that you will be getting severe bore wash . I noticed the strut top mounts more than the 60 degree bend on the pipe across the top of the engine, they look fairly tired.

your "optimised pipe" has not bracketery to stop it flopping about on and off boost... (silicon bends will want to straighten under boost)

It is mounted, it's just hard to see from the photo. And @desertstorm - they are not tired, that's just how the look. Koni shocks. Not sure about model or anything, they came with the car.

So I went to the Tuner yesterday after breaking-in the engine for 450km. The car stayed there and probably will stay till tomorrow because he couldn't find the problem. On high boost car runs lean and stutters. Sometimes it even "locks" at 3,000RPM with WOT. Fuel pressure is good under load, injectors are good. MAF seems to be correct.

I asked the tuner for a log, will post it as soon as I get it.

First we do a street tune and then a dyno in a week or two :)
