Morning all,
I completed the power folding mirrors retrofit the other day and all is well and working as it should. However, after i plugged vcds in and now have fault codes relating to the driver and passenger door modules.

01332 - door control module; passenger side (j387) 49-10 - no communications-intermittent

01331 - door control module; driver side (j386) 49-10 - no communications-intermittent

First i cleared all dtcs and re scanned but the faults came straight back.
I then thought they may need coding being different parts numbers and being from another car but vcds doesnt allow (me atleast) to communicate with the channels for doors.

A quick look on the interwebs tells me that some cars dont allow you access to certain control units within the car, yet others do? Correct me if im wrong.

Another search suggested, what i think is the most likely cause, is the convenience module isnt fully compatible with the replacement door module.

Googling the fault code just suggest the obvious stuff like blown fuses, breaks in the wiring and faulty modules.

Im half tempted just to ignore it as everything stills works spot on, its just annoying having faults lingering around. I dont want to go swapping out the convenience module only to cure the front door faults but throw up faults on other units.

Has anyone else had this?

Cheers chaps

Morning Alex, because the error code is reporting both sides that would suggest either a coding issue or compatability issue with the convenience module.
If it was a wiring fault it would be more specific to either left or right unless the wiring problem was replicated on both sides , which is allways possible but as they work it seems less likely.

had a quick webby snoop and those codes seem to be very common errors across numerous model etc, a lot of cases seem to be a wiring problem, are you 100% your wiring is correct Alex.

I did Rob, infact i was looking for it when i wrote the post to be a little mor specific.
To be honest i havent checked the wiring yet but as everything works as it should i just assumed it was something like coding

I think your right, i have a few clips to replace and the passenger side handle cable to fit that i forgot too. Doh!
Anyway ill check the pin outs in the new modules first i think

never straight forward with these old buses..lol

Okay, just popped the door cards back off and checked the plug pins againts the module pin outs.

As you can see the bottom module (replacement "max" unit to support power fold) has every pin compared to the originals.

It also appears the door wiring doest contain enough wires to support each pin or function.

Could it just be a case of replacing the door wiring looms maybe?

Re scanned with the original modules fitted and still getting the same fault codes.

there's a lot of pins missing Alex, I also have a feeling that electric seat memory functions are part of the equation along with the autodip and anti dazzle for wing mirrors, they are all options within the convenience module, I think you need to check out looms for differences .

If you were in no rush Alex i'd have a look at mine as I need to remove both front door cards to check for the electric seat memory on my bus.
I have power fold as standard but not memory seats, and want to check I have the option there for memory switch, I could maybe entlighten you more by comparing with mine.
Won't be for a while yet though.

Have you tried ,checking ALL the plugs are connected secure?vcds says intermittent so could just be dodgy connection,as you have removed them all to plug in the new modules

That would be sound Rob if you wouldn't mind as in theory we should be running the same set up now. The max modules obviously run every possible type of function withing the doors/mirrors/windows so i expected my door looms to be lacking. Its just a shame they didnt use the same looms regardless of options.

Yep checked everything, its a peculiar one as everything works bob on. My remote key loses its program quite frequently but i just put that down to maybe needing a new battery, so i dont think its related. Unless theres a slight nick in a wire within the door loom as that seems to be a common fault looking at what Rob posted

Maybe ? easy enough to check I guess, both doors though, think that's a bit unlucky,to get breaks in both?

Also I have my door cards off at minute.what is it you want Rob to check, maybe I could check on mine, maybe a bit quicker for you?

Thats what i thought, it seems weird how its the only 2 ive swapped and as i said everything works, having said that its still faulting with the original modules. In all the excitement i didnt scan it prior to installing all the new parts

Also if either of you two kind fellas have vcds plugged in at some point, have a look see if you can access module 42 deivers door module, if you wouldn't mind im curious to see if its accessible on other b7s

I wont get time today Alex as i'm shuffling between the forum and fixing my central heating header tank.....if I can I will, maybe Alpinachris will have a bit more time today to do a quick scan.

Not today buddy, when you have it plugged in, theres no rush

I get a message saying unable to communicate or something along those lines. I have read some modules are inaccessible on some cars though?

I will try plug in tomorrow, see wot I get?

Hi Alex, sorry to read about the problems your having, shame you didnt scan before the change.
I was wondering about if it needed extra wiring, but as you said it worked I felt o.k.
Is you car an Sline, as I know some convenience modules are different, the new window modules does contain extra pins but when you plug your loop in
surely it will only use the the wires on the plug, I mean your wiring plug may not be fully wired as it should only use what it needs, if you see what I mean.

just did a full scan on my old bus and the same message Alex, no communication.
other than that no errors, might have a fiddle with vcds tomorrow to see what else can be interrogated in the conv module that relates to mirrors etc.
It runs module 42 but shows no info.

Yep s line spec

Best way to workout which options relate modules and looms would be to check pinouts against a full spec schematic of those circuits, not sure how easy it is to get a full wiring schematic though that covered full spec fitment.

no scan result seems to be the norm then on B7's for module 42 then.

yes they are indeedy..46 will show all door modules and main conv module fitted to car with their part number.

just had a look at my scan printout from last night , just noticed 15, airbags, 6 fitted......I thought I had 4..lol

Quick question?in cov module 46,vcds gives part number, coding, couple of other numbers, but i also noticed today, a "labels" no.similar to part number, but at the end listed "MAX"?do you now what that relates too?

I had noticed that sometime ago and it not just the conv module , a lots of parts have label numbers aswell, in fact just looking at my printout, every module has a label number too.
Not sure what the label number is except its very close to the part number, maybe its a revision or software thing.
I ran a part number check on a few and had nothing come up specifically for the label number.

It would appear that the label files are connected to coding and adaptation and diagnostic such as vcds .

yep, was an extra option on my old bus...but then even an option is an extra option with audi..lol
