The 4 pot S3

Ha ha .... it was more referring to S5’s which @Audi Bairn and myself had before our currrnt cars - both the previous generation S5 :)

I haven’t driven the new S5 but it looks a superb car in & out & I’m sure the engine is a peach again. I’d 100% consider one.

I think you’ll find it more luxurious & refined than the S3 but heavier & less chuckable. Straight line power is awesome with effortless acceleration & the cabin was a wonderful place to sit. New one looks even better :icon thumright:
Ah right fair enough, hopefully I’ll be pleasantly surprised then. I’m sure it’s not quite competition for an RS3’s sound but should be an improvement on the S3 :grinning:

Totally echo you’re comments, only thing with the new one is the price.

If going brand new I’d agree it’s a big price difference, but for some reason with used prices the S5 seems to fair badly.

I’ve been offered £27,500 for my S3 which is 20 months old with 9k miles and I could switch to a S5 with similar or lower miles on an 67/18 plate for around another 5/6k I reckon. Spec is pretty good as standard on a S5 the only thing that would be a must have is virtual cockpit to be honest.

Yeah, I looked at a used one maybe a year ago, which was specced up to the max but my S3 was only a year old and I suddenly realised I was being daft and dropped the idea.

I don't think the S3 sounds too bad TBH. Sounds better than most 4 pots out there

Agreed. Ive had 4 pots, a 3 pot, 6 pots, but the nicest sounding engine of all was the 5 pot in the old Audi 2.3 Coupe. That burble was just beautiful especially around the 2-3 krpm region.

Am I alone in thinking the sound from the 4 pot S3 isn't the greatest around. I'm not talking about the exhaust note. I just think the engine is just a bit crummy sounding. Bit rattly sounding. Don't get me wrong I think my car is great, but for an S3 I think it should have a more meaty sound.
I can hear the wife's S3 from the top of the street and when it starts up it sounds great imho. I did own a RS3 so been spoiled for sound but for a 4 pot the S3 does ok.

4 pots are always going to be limited in the sound department ... the only exception I know of is the Type R like Jassy mentions.
I had a bread van shape Type R back in 2004 and I loved that thing lol ... they look horribly dated now though lol :)
We owned a honda ITR both the DC2 and DC5, when you hit the vtec yo zone it went nuts!

The old school vtecs were better than the newer one.
Had the 1.8 in the civic and the 2.2 accord type r.
S2000 was the best with it 2 stage vtec with a different note at each stage.

Haha reminded me of this! (I've had a 1.8 Civic myself so I'm allowed to make fun of it ;) )

I had an ep3 import and it was a wicked little B road basher for its time, and if you kept it in vtec it was ace on the back roads
