Imola Yellow A4 Avant - Build Thread

I picked up this 2008 Audi A4 Avant 3.0 TDI last weekend.

Specs -

Manual
S Line
Quattro
3.0 TDI V6

Extras -
Panoramic Sunroof
Heated Seats
Sat Nav
Front & Rear Parking Sensors

Today it has had a service including Oil Change, Oil Filter, Air Filter, Cabin Filter, Fuel Filter.

The only issue it seams to have other than the P2105 Swirl Flap Code is that the sunroof wont open fully - sounds like the motor is under high stress and clicks very loudly - Any suggestions here would be welcome.

Anyway here are a few pictures after a brief wash today.

I have a few plans for this car but please comment any suggestions of mods and necessary maintenance.

I was expecting this to be a B7 shape posted in the wrong section at first when I saw it was Imola yellow never knew they did Imola in the B8! What a lovely car and colour.

Nice looking car.

Panoramic roof, if it's clicking, and not fully retracting or opening/closing sounds like the motor is working okay, or internal nylon gearing is stripped? Might have been opened if it was frozen due to cold weather for example in a previous life?

Panoramic rooms are a bone of contention for me. Still trying to fix a leak on mine. Going by the noise can you isolate the exact motor? Looks like there's two. The rear one is probably for the interior sun shade.

To take a proper look means stripping it out. You should be able to access the motor at the front (assuming that's the one that's clicking) via the central control panel. Open the sunglasses holder. There's a star bit key insert you can undo there, that will allow you to drop this down.

There's also specific grease for the sunroof linkages and rail system to avoid a repeat if the motor is goosed.

Spartacus68 - thankyou for that reply, that link is fantastic. It is the front motor that is clicking, I’ll have a look today and see if I can find the problematic part.

@spartacus 68 - Removed the motor to have a look, it appears the gear has been slipping.

I think that it might just be too much resistance from the old grease thats making it hard for the motor - does the gear look excessivley worn to you?

Difficult to tell from that angle. Once you wipe of the debris and wire brush (use soft brass bristle brush), brake cleaner and dry off. New motor is like this.

Makes me think about the part the alloy cog on the motor engages with in the roof?

Just thinking, interior wise you could change that walnut burr to a carbon fibre wrap. Makes me think of Jeremy from the Good Life in his old Jaguar or Rover!

Have to say that interior trim choice is a very strange selection when coupled with the exterior yellow paint.

Yes after cleaning off I think the motor & gear is okay. It may be the ‘worm’ that it engages with but I think after a clean and a regrease it should glide a bit better.

What's the fuel consumption like on the 3.0 litre? Also is that xenon headlights?

First tank is almost empty at 434 miles, averaging around 39mpg which i’m happy with. Best i’ve seen is 48mpg on a motorway run.

Yes, the Xenon’s were a must for me - the LED’s look great and the light is far superior from the Xenons in the dark.

So after a couple of weeks of driving I'm loving the car.

I realised on the way home after buying it that whilst it had the 'tel' button on the steering wheel and in the centre console - it wasn't actually Bluetooth enabled. I've now bought the missing bluetooth module, microphone and loom in this kit. I'll post some pictures when I install it at the weekend.

I'm definitely going to get the car remapped, I have experience in the past with JF Automotive so will likely be making another visit unless anybody has other recommendations?

Had a bit of fun with Quattro in the pathetic amount of snow Surrey received on Friday night.

You need to talk to @bobby singh and definitely read the build thread of his B8 3.0tdi. Tis one hell of a machine he has ... and a torque monster ...

Okay so I got round to tackling the bluetooth retrofit today.

First off was removing the CD changer from the centre console - two audi CD keys is all this takes.

At this point I plugged in the kit I had bought to test all the components - it worked right away.

Removed the glovebox next, there are several 8mm headed bolts that need removing to drop the glovebox out.
I removed the A-Pillar by popping off the airbag plastic trim and removing the T20 that sits behind it. I also removed the sunroof control panel by removing the one T20 hidden in the sunglasses compartment.
The passenger sun visor is removed and at this point you can run the microphone cable from the glovebox, up the A-Pillar and across the roof above the headliner. The microphone was installed in the factory location.

I opted to install the bluetooth module in the roof of my glovebox, I sprayed it satin black so that it blended in and will return at some point and carpet it properly.

At this point I realised that the supplied M.O.S.T cable is far too short for any install. Amazon prime sorted me out next day with an extender.

All that was left was to connect the module to the back of the CD changer and refit all the trim, glovebox and CD changer unit.

I'm really pleased that my car now has bluetooth as I was getting tired of not being able to make calls from the car. Note that this is the process for making calls only - not streaming music. It didn't require me to use VCDS at all for it to work, however I will be ensuring that Module - 77 ( Telephone ) is properly coded.
