Okay guys bit of a weird one here and I’m not sure if I’m doing something wrong.

My car is mapped and I’ve had the DSG mapped also. I don’t often launch the car, probably done it 4 or five times now and every time I do it it hits the limiter in 1st. If I do it in manual I simply cannot flip the upshift paddle fast enough before it bangs up against the limiter. So yesterday I tried it in D and it did exactly the same thing and didn’t change gear. Should I be doing it in S? I can’t see what difference that should make. It still makes all the right noises and launches but simply doesn’t change up. Hence I never launch it!

Thoughts?

You must be doing something wrong I think, as you need to be in Dynamic to even activate a launch. This automatically puts the gearbox in S mode.

Thats exactly what I’m doing, I only ever drive the car in Dynamic anyway with traction half off and all time in manual using the paddles. I’ve driven GT3’s and GT3RS’s and done exactly the same procedure many times and they’ve been fine.

I’ve tried it with the stick over to the left and over to the right in auto.

If the car isn’t in Dynamic it won’t launch anyway.

Yep tried both, half off and fully off.

I’ll be honest I’ve not gone and done it somewhere quiet, each time I’ve done it I’ve been driving like a hooligan. But I had launch control in my Golf R32 and again, exactly the same procedure, so I’m not exactly new to it. It’s really odd.

You need to be in S mode for it to launch properly.

- Hill hold assist off
- Traction control off
- Dynamic S mode
- 80 degrees temp
- Foot HARD on brake
- Maximum throttle
- Release brake...

...and BOOM!

Don’t get me wrong it launches and launches hard like it should do, but it doesn’t change into second.

Should I have the box in full auto ‘S’? All the way down? I think I’m being a bellend and this is in fact the issue :box:

Sounds like you're doing it right so it could be the maps you've had done messing with it.

Who ever did your gearbox map must of turned something off?

Are you sure switching to Dynamic mode puts the box in S mode?

It doesn’t on my S7. You have to select S mode (in addition to dynamic) by pulling back on the gearstick :racer:

Sounds like this may be the case with me too. I shall update in due course.

Mine did the same thing when i launched it in the wet, hitting the rev limiter hard when the car was in S auto with traction fully off. Car was also stage 1.

It did on the S3 and same thing on the RS3. On start-up it'll stay in D mode but you have to cycle back to Dynamic anyway then it goes to S mode straight away. Depending on your Individual drive mode settings, that'll do the same thing.

Yes it’s ‘Dynamic mode’ but it looks like you need to have the gearbox in ‘S’ not ‘D’. Selecting Dynamic mode alone does not give ‘Sport’ as this needs physically selecting on the gearbox.

On much TT, if I go into Dynamic it automatically puts it into S mode.

I'm pretty sure on my RS3, when starting up in Dynamic it defaults to D but when switching from comfort to Dynamic whilst driving it switches to S

Yeah because whatever mode the car is switched off in the car starts back up showing the same mode it went off in but defaults almost to a comfort setting so will show D.
Whichever mode you want needs to be reselected every start.

Afaik if you are not is S or have pressed dynamic then LC won't work. Not changing gear is a fault imho but surely Audi won't be bothered now it's mapped?

The DIS will show you what gear you are in? It will either be D1 or S1 whilst you are stationary. The D/S switch in the 8V is purely software. In the 8P it was a physical switch.

If you have the stick to the left you are in manual and it won’t change up, that is for sure.
