So, this is a Jan 2009 Le Man 3.0 TDI A6. I bought it with only one key and that key has disappeared.

Having pulled the house apart, the only place I can think it might be is in the car somewhere. The car is locked but I have looked inside as much as I can and can't actually see anything so it may be wishful thinking on my part.

So, called the AA and the guy who came out tried to pick the lock but couldn't. He's arranged for his AA mate (who apparently has the touch) to come out in the morning. While he was there he said that he didn't think the key would be in the car because this generation of A6 won't lock with the key in the car? My C5 will happily lock itself but thankfully I have the second key for this.

Can anyone confirm whether or not a 2009 A6 has some electronic setup that means it won't lock with the key loose in the car?

Cheers,

Al.

I seem to recall reading that you can lock your key in the boot by accident, so if you’ve locked the doors, then go into the boot for something and accidentally close the lid with the keys inside, your stuck unless you have the second key.

Assuming there has been no lock changes, I believe a dealer can cut a key based on your VIN number, as long as you have proof of ownership (V50) and photographic ID.

Thanks. Key has turned up.

I rang main dealer there. £160 for emergency key and £260 for full Monte. Not as much as I thought so I'm just going to get a full second key.

Cheers,

Al.

Yep. I’ve done this. Luckily I had a second key
